Years ago on this thread, members discussed different ways to incorporate Coruscant into the OT. A user posted an edited frame of Coruscant from ROTS with an ROTJ starfield as the night sky and I thought it was just beautiful and somewhat convincingly 1980’s. I can’t help but wonder, have other people taken these ideas further than just images? I would love some concepts, edits or anything with more Coruscant-in-the-OT ideas. Any direction, links or references would be appreciated.

I think that you would be interested on Snooker’s mock-ups that featured Coruscant on ROTJ (Changing the background of scenes like Vader talking with Luke on the bridge or Palpatine’s throne room)
Sadly, most of the gifs that showcased them in motion are down
Still, you can see some of those mock-ups (Though only as pictures) on this thread: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Snookers-Assorted-Star-Wars-edit-ideas/id/73571/page/1

Luke’s line in ANH to Obi-Wan reads as weird, given the world building we’ve seen in other media since in which people seem readily familiar with both the Jedi and the Force. Even in the Kenobi show, the Inquisitor rightly presumed they didn’t need to be introduced and that even the population of Tatooine knew they hunted Jedi.

That line in ANH is simply, “The Force?”

Obviously, it’s to get exposition going. But it seems weird for Luke to be familiar with the Jedi and be baffled by mention of the Force.

Not sure the line could be removed seamlessly, though. Maybe an AI line can give Kenobi’s line about the Force a different on-ramp.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

It’s been a spell since I listened to the radio drama, but I recall Hamill’s reading of the line in that version being less questioning, more contemplative. Dunno how well it could be incorporated into the movie, but it might be worth a shot.

Gods for some, miniature libertarian socialist flags for others.

Is Darth Vader an obscure figure in the Star Wars galaxy? In the old EU he was portrayed as famous, a well-known second in command to the Emperor.

In the Kenobi show, Obi-Wan does not know that Anakin/Vader lived until ten years later when Reva mentions his name. You’d think that would be hard to miss, even if he was spending most of his time getting stoned off his ass on Tatooine.

Also, in ANH Luke does not appear to recognize the name Darth Vader when Obi-Wan names him. Is Vader meant to be a little-known figure outside the Empire’s military hierarchy?

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Pablo Hidalgo mentions that the Imperial officer’s attitude towards Vader in each of the three symbolizes how well known he is - Motti in Star Wars, Ozzel in Empire and Jerjerrod in Jedi. I think it sounds reasonable, and extends to most characters in those respective films. The idea, I think, is that after the Death Star he and his Death Squadron became way more hands on in fighting the Rebels across the galaxy. Whereas before he was mostly stoned off his ass in Mustafar or doing Sith/Inquisiting stuff, I’m guessing, which is more in the shadows and less open.

I like the idea that Darth Vader was widespread knowledge but Luke doesn’t know because he’s a scrappy farm boy in the far reaches of the galaxy. In my mind, Motti and Ozzel were just narcissists who didn’t believe in the Force and paid the price. Being that the Empire was made in the image of the Sith, self-obsessed arrogant assholes are gonna be the guys in power.

On another topic, the redwood forests in ROTJ were also used for filming for Walking with Dinosaurs because its conifers resemble those from the Mesozoic, when conifers dominated the world’s flora. I think it’s interesting how the Endor moon appearing primeval contrasts the technological advancement that is the Death Star II, and how the Empire’s defeat shows that what is ancient is not necessarily inferior. Maybe Endor could be given a more prehistoric vibe?

For anyone who wants to add Mustafar but make it look appropriate for a 70s/80s film, planet Vulcan from Star Trek the Motion Picture, as well as the destruction of the Genesis planet in Star Trek 3 are good sources.

Forgive me if this has been suggested. I was just being an indolent swine over on faceboot when a reel of Tik Tokified clips of ANH showed up with material added to the top and bottom of the frame rather than cropping the current image. Sometimes it looks REALLY good. It made me wonder (and this is true of all of the films really) if it was possible to do an IMAX version of Star Wars in that style. After seeing Dune in IMAX I have warmed to the ratio.

There are open matte versions of the saga films out there?

What if… Instead of destroying the Endor shield generator the Rebels redirected the shield to protect the moon from debris. Everyone looking up and seeing the station exploding could be a briefly tense moment as they wait to see if the recalibrated shield works. The big celebration could be seeing the debris bounce off the shield knowing the people below were safe.

This would explain why a moon like Kef Bir would get the majority of the Death Star debris instead of the moon right below it.

The current workaround for this ridiculousness was Ascendant just turning Kef Bir into a different part of Endor. But if I worked at Lucasfilm I would have to make the retcon you mention here to make sense of things in theatrical TROS.
