Whoah! EditDroid bonus material. This I'd like to see. What "other additional material" have they done?

I believe Rikter did a transfer of the US LDs for the first two Making Ofs. RowMan, are those the ones on your v2 bonus discs?

The subtitle masking is definitely an ocp-style project, but it might end up being a lot of work for little reward, as the patching would still be distracting.

"Connections" IS the "Story of Star Wars." It's just re-edited into a single program I believe.

I had been wondering if that was the case. They seem like similar programs, but I never managed to snag a copy of that Wal-Mart bonus disc to find out for sure.

Here's some info on "The Story of Star Wars" (video), showing that it was originally released for the VideoNow player:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_Of_Star_Wars

A great project would be to collect all of the material from each release of this and put it on a single DVD.

babyhum, where are you? We haven't seen you since mid-June or so.

And don't give us any flimsy excuses like "real life", etc.

Eight minutes after I call his name, he's posting. Not bad!

Anyway, yeah, good to know you're keeping tabs on things here, babyhum. Sometimes real life has to be given its rightful priority. Hopefully we'll see you in November!

A request.
I recently stopped my Sky subscription. Starting on Friday 13th October 2006 at 02:40 to 03:30 (so it's more like Thursday night) Sky One are repeating (i assume weekly) the "Ultimate Sci Fi Top 10" series in Widescreen. Is it possible someone could record these for me for a forthcoming release.
I must ask the following: They are recorded onto DVD at the highest quality possible, and they are recorded in 16x9 anamorphic format via RGB scart. NOT matted and NOT fullscreen please. I will pay for all media and postage.
I know it's asking a lot but it will make a fantastic disc.
Thank you all,
babyhum

Nice, A new transfer of the Making of Star Wars laserdisc is long overdue. Could I suggest having 2 audio tracks on this? The Sci-Fi Channel version has a different narrator than the laserdisc release. It would be cool to have both in one spot.

If somebody can supply me with the audio, i'll see what i can do.

Just posted at babyhum's blog I like it; just bookmarked it. I also like that "Tatooine or Bust" and "Star Wars or Bust" are to be extras on these discs, rather than main features themselves. Best way to handle them, IMHO.

Agreed; I'd like to see this as well. It's something that has been missing on all transfers to far. It was William Conrad that narrated the original one, but no one seems to know who the newer narrator was for the 1995 version. I assume some kind of royalty issues with using Conrad's voice (too expensive, maybe?) caused the new voiceover to be created.

babyhum, do you have a source for the alternate 1995 audio? I do happen to have that tape (actually ordered it through the cereal box offer back then). It's in NTSC format (was this version ever released in PAL?), and in very good shape, having only been played a few times. I'd be willing to loan it out "for the cause" if need be.

And these new transfers I assume will also have the burned-in Japanese subtitles. I guess we have to make that sacrifice for the sake of best quality. I'd still love to see someone custom matte out the subtitles using a subtitle-less transfer, though.

EDIT: Looks like you do need a source for the audio. As far as I know, the cereal box mail-away offer VHS tape in NTSC format is the only source for this alternate audio (someone please correct me if they know differently!). And as far as I know I may be the best source for this, so PM me with your address and such and I'll see about digging out that tape.

The new narration is by Don LaFontaine. I don't have the audio but a loan of your tape would be great, unless you can transfer it for me? It will have the burned in Japanese subtitles. I'll be releasing it as the Japanese edition.

But...

If you ask me, based on Lucasfilm's recent releases and the fact that next year is the 30th anniversary, I have a feeling we'll see a 'Vintage Collection' release of all of the classic documentaries.

I am unable to do a full transfer of the tape, but I'll see what I can do with the audio. Otherwise, I'll be happy to loan it out for the project with confidence that it will be in good hands, and that you'll send it back when you have what you need.

One can only hope. I'll be a happy camper if that is the case, that's for sure.
