ty hh, I'll check it out.. quick noob q 4 moth3r... how did u make this mix?

The restoration work was carried out by Belbucus, as hairy_hen mentions above (although I don't believe he used the bootleg telecine at all). His work is described in Post 73 of this thread.

ok, looks like we'll have a much

more faithful version of this..

we are using the mono spanish version,

and a mono english version that will

be combined to make a higher quality

version, than the one out there now..

i'll post more details and comparisons

later on..

Great news!

Only news is that -1 and his possé are still working on it.

it looks like we only have a few reels

that are actually in mono. and will be

reconstructing the rest.

however, the parts we do have will

be of high(er) quality.

Puggo Grande is in mono, too, if you can't wait to hear it ;)

Oh I know, and there's also the Mono restoration track that I've listened to. I guess I was hoping to find a really nice quality version of it.

Are not there limitations in a academy monaural track even if it is capped at the highest possible resolution and bitrate for sound.

Does not optical in general have limitations because the audio is on the print itself?

Nowadays if they wanted to they could reproduce the sound as exactly as heard in the recording studio off the first gen master. 

Though Lucas has not done that.

The blu ray is a poor imitation of the original 77 mix in any of its forms.

Then again out of the few films from the 70's i want to own on blu ray like Superman, Star Wars, or star trek none of them have the original 6 track 70mm mix.

do you have a surround sound system properly configured?

i don't know too many people that do. i'm an audiophile,

but listen mostly to music.

i'm sure there are videophiles here that do, but overall

most people don't. i'm sure the stereo soundtracks are

the most listened to.

besides the nostalgia and novelty factor, who listens

to the mono version mostly, and what quality does it

really need to be? its not that good of a qualilty in

the original..

i'm sure hairy_hen could tell you all about the differences

and fixes in the 4.1 and 5.1 surround versions and

remasters. some people like having the newer mixes

to sound more impressive.

i'll stick to the stereo 35mm versions.

You have access to something that has the mono mix in better quality than we already have, but its incomplete right?

the 35mm mono optical still has to be higher fidelity than nth generations of VHS tapes of the bootleg or itv uk broadcast, or even the 16mm puggo grande.

I have a movie on DVD with its original mono mix and no noise reduction and it sounds better than the stereoized pop and click removed version on the same disc.

Lucas called the mono mix the definitive mix of the film. 

When Star Wars was originally released and at the time was his vision of the film as realized.   Before he was seduced by the dark side of digital edit tinkering and cgi.

yes, right now we only have the first two reels as previewed here.

they will sound 'better' of course.. we'll keep an eye out for the

rest, somebody might have them!

it's from a projector.

we will sync the audio very carefully.

Beautiful. You know, with all of the projects  over the years I think I've been converted to this track. The mono has become my favorite.

That sounds really good for optical from a used print! I guess it has Dolby-A noise reduction for greater clarity.

Has anybody ever made a stereo or surround mix that incorporates parts of the mono mix's creative decisions? Adywan seems to have done this partially for his Revisited version, as seen with Beru's voice and the deceleration sound when they drop out of hyperspace.
