I feel like ‘The weapon located in the Ilum system’ might be too much of a mouthful – could “the weapon in the Ilum system” work? Other than that fantastic work this is so crazy exciting!

I’m watching the workprint and noticed an odd audio issue from (1:11:48-1:11:53) when the Resistance arrives on Takodana. The music jumps and you can tell there has been a cut. Any chance it could be made a little more seamless if possible?

I wanted to make the line about as long as the original one, so that most of the mouth movements would already match up. “…weapon that destroyed the Hosnian system…” is about the same as “…weapon located in the Ilum system…”
And as for the music jump, you’re right there is a jump in loudness in the rear speakers, thanks for pointing that out. Fixed!

Not suggesting we overhaul this, but what’s the logic with the Resistance and the Senate? The line for Leia saying that the Senate is their target, seems to beg the question of why the Senate does not seem to be warned or begin to evacuate.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Like i know the in-universe reason is “half the senate hates Leia and could never trust her or her organization because she is the daughter of Vader” but is there any way to indicate that the senate is in a standstill of supporting/trusting the resistance or not?
One other suggestion as I’m currently watching the workprint, just cause it’s already in The Rise of Skywalker… remove Rey’s added “CHEWIE!” line when he detonates the explosives. Daisy really should have gotten another line reading/shouting for that one.
Plus, it makes it a little awkward having two Chewbacca death fake-outs in the Sequel Trilogy with Rey yelling the exact same thing 😄

I think the gap between “a weapon located in the Ilum system” and “he worked on the base” is perfect. I would just take a second look at the word “Finn”. How would it sound if you used replaced that word with the reading I gave you?

My logic is: Evacuating a few hundred people from a military base would take a few hours and some transports.
Evacuating an entire solar system would take months and more ships than the Republic has.
Sure, just evacuating the Senate could work, and in a logical world they would be evacuated regardless of whether they know the weapon’s target or not. But perhaps Leia did tell them that there was a threat and they decided to trust Leia’s plan, or perhaps they would refuse to evacuate because it would prove that the Resistance was feeding intel to the Republic. Or maybe the easiest explanation is one supported by canon - almost half of the Senate is comprised of First Order sympathizers so they would reject any message from the Resistance, leading to delay and destruction.
JEDIT: In the deleted scene where Leia is appraised of the Senate’s actions, I could have Eddie record a line to the effect that the Senate is still in deliberations and refuses to even evacuate.

I pulled that sound effect from TROS because in my world TROS doesn’t exist 😉 But of course if it bugs people, I can remove it. I feel like Rey should have some reaction to Chewie’s apparent death though.

Are you planning to make Starlight a duology? I’d be interested in a version of The Last Jedi that conclusively works as an ending.
Maybe someday if I ever get around to finishing this edit 😉

I’d like to think that too, but Hal did way too good of a job putting together Ascendant to cast it aside 😄

To be fair, I was dragged reluctantly (mostly by my own self, but still) into fan editing TROS, which is an inherently optimistic endeavor. I still feel like all TLJ needs is an epilogue to feel like a good ending.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
A duology would definitely be always a bit of an exercise in unfinished potential, but one I could live with.
I’m not entirely opposed to the idea of a full fanedited sequel trilogy, but the amount of work needed for TROS is almost beyond what I believe this community could accomplish.
I say almost, but with all the new AI tools becoming available, I’m not so sure. Maybe AI and the skill of our creators may one day allow for a true Snoke Mastermind edit (an edit where Rey’s Palpatine lineage is an illusion, Palpatine himself is an illusion, and the fleet is an illusion, all created by Snoke).
Also, JJB, I tried using the AI ‘Finn’ beginning but I think the original works best here.
I’m hoping to render the final file tonight, so if there are any final requests, now’s the time.

Hmmm…this makes me wonder if you could create a good epilogue to TLJ using footage from TROS. I’m not sure what you would even include.

It’s just so satisfying. Literally crying in the theater. Beautiful.

Well, I found a VFX error in tonight’s render (a deleted layer) so I’ll have to pick it back up again tomorrow.
Funny thing is that this went from a finished effects shot to a broken one sometime between my pre-V1 workprints and V1’s release, which means that nobody, including myself, caught this for years. Ah well, I guess it must not have been too bad then, but I’ll leave it to you to guess what shot is messed up. I’ll give you a hint: it’s the main object of the shot, pretty much in the center of the frame.

The Rise of Skywalker: Untold - A “Rey Nobody” edit of Ep. IX - Coming Soon
Okay, Version 3:
https://mega.nz/file/LcFHED4R#Oamj_r5X0Ql_pnGOSl_iA7GR4VYvF-vB9icqHuaq6GM
I’m fairly happy with it now. It will never be perfect, but it’s a big value add to the plot and I think solves the final logic issue of Restructured.
With that, I’m about ready to render Starlight V 1.1! If anyone has any final comments about the workprint, do let me know soon, otherwise you will need to wait until V2 😉
The sync looks really good, but the change in tempo when “he worked on the base” starts is noticeable. Maybe adjust the speed just a little to match?

Not to say that good TROS edits can’t be made, of course, just that I have very specific demands 😉

I had adjusted Poe’s original line in speed just a bit, but for full integration that may have to wait for V2.
Sherlock and I have found a few more places with monaural sound, so those are fixed and V1.1 is rendering.

Just got the workprint. I haven’t had the opportunity to watch through the whole thing yet (I’ll get to that tomorrow!), but I couldn’t stop myself from looking at a few of the best parts.
I absolutely ADORE the new Sith eyes in the closeup shot. I’m just wondering if you’re considering enhancing their appearance throughout the remainder of the fight. I had a hard time telling if they were actually there or not.
I’m also wondering if I could give you an AI recording of Kylo saying “Forgive Me”. It’s probably because I’ve watched TFA so much, but it’s rather clear that it’s ripped from the Vader helmet scene. Maybe something like this:

I just flipped through the workprint and I couldn’t really think of a good reason not to adopt this as my own personal go-to version. TFA:R isn’t going anywhere, but I was re-floored to rediscover the intricate and masterful threading Nev has done with this project. It makes this movie sing.
Ascendant V3 will feature its only shot of Jakku made to match Starlight so that a viewer of any version of TFA would not be thrown. (Granted, I’d be gobsmacked by a hypothetical viewer who would have THAT to complain about while walking out after TROS.)
Just like Harmy saying, “Hey guys, watch 4K77,” I feel that way about this project. Very proud of our Neverar; he’s great!

Awesome! This was my only other concern but I figured it wasn’t relevant to me to bring it up here.

Indeed. Can’t wait to watch through the whole thing!
