I’ve already gotten some feedback saying that Leia’s line about the Senate still needs work, so I’ve split the difference between the cobbled line and the AI line, combining them into one:

I didn’t want to add that line until the deleted scene featuring that officer is incorporated as well, I figured that would be the time to finalize that character. I’ve just removed the shot of C-3PO that was going to cover the line, so version 1.1 will be the original line reading, version 2 will be the altered line.

I never quite understood why Lucasfilm decided to be all secretive about whether Starkiller Base is Ilum or not. I mean, after Fallen Order it was all but confirmed, but I’m really excited that the film itself will be able to tell us this.

I’m using the highly scientific method of looking to see what mouth movements in the shot match the ones being spoken, then duplicating them and moving them to the correct place. Then I adjust their placement on his face so they fit over the top of the prior mouth movements and feather them into his features. It’s all quite crude, and I can do it right from Premiere most of the time. All a lot of simple tricks and nonsense 😉

I’m fairly happy with it now. It will never be perfect, but it’s a big value add to the plot and I think solves the final logic issue of Restructured.
With that, I’m about ready to render Starlight V 1.1! If anyone has any final comments about the workprint, do let me know soon, otherwise you will need to wait until V2 😉

Works surprisingly well. Is the “he worked on the base” part of the original line? I wonder how it would sound if the whole line was voice AI so it completely matched, but that is nitpicky.
Yes, that was part of the original line, but the AI representation of it was somewhat different in tone and speed and I was worried it wouldn’t sync up as well.

That make sense! I feel like the line as-is could probably pass the unaware viewer test, if that makes sense.
Indeed, and the slight change of tone between AI and original lines actually works for me, as if Poe is emphasizing that last part.
BTW, it’s kind of crazy that I’m able to add a new line to a movie using an entirely fabricated voice and have it sound better than many real ADR’d lines in professional movies. It is a new and terrifying age.

Nev was kind enough to teach me how to do the Sith Eye effect a while ago. Based on my own experience trying to replicate his process, I can confirm that the detail and man hours he puts into this stuff is absolutely insane lol.
