Well The Force Awakens was the big winner at last nights Empire Film Awards.

Best Sci-Fi/ Fantasy
Best Male Newcomer - John Boyega
Best Female Newcomer - Daisy Ridley
Best Director
Best Visual Effects

I’d say it doesn’t deserve best director but the rest are reasonable. I’m surprised it didn’t get best original score.

Okay. Mind blown!

I’m guessing some older planes are still rocking VHS and the airlines are too cheap to install something more digital? I really thought VHS releases died out when Amtrak stopped showing movies in the observation cars. Last one I saw on the train was X Men: The Last Stand.

And imagine the bids if one of those TFA tapes makes it to Ebay…

If…that’s how you feel but exactly how is a film that isn’t much complex than surface layer bullshit “pretentious”? I mean it’s a little deeper than Batman vs Joker like in Batman 89 but it’s not even as complex as the OT Star Wars films.

Given the long history of Star Wars on home video, I could see some sort of limited edition VHS set coming out for the 40th anniversary. Some small indie horror video companies have done VHS releases in the past couple years.

If Marvel could make the Guardians Of The Galaxy awesome mix tape cassette a reality…

Are VHS tapes being manufactured in large enough quantities for that to be possible?

That’s a good question! Clearly there’s still a VHS duplication setup out there somewhere, or the airline tape wouldn’t exist. There could still be a warehouse full of blanks out there somewhere.

Who was still making audio cassettes in 2014 for that matter?

I’m not going to get into a big argument over this. All I need say is this: I prefer Batman to have elements of the gothic and/or fantastic in his world, the Nolan films have none of that, I don’t care for what they do have, end of story, end of discussion.

Come to think of it, I remember reading last year that Sony had finally ended production of blank Betamax tapes. Blank VHS aren’t hard to come by to this day. There must still be lines open, probably manufactured in waves and put in warehouses and not made again until they need more like various industries do for spare parts. If this is true, then a major VHS release would only mean opening the lines for an extended period to fill temporarily high demand.

Store stock can sit around for years and years though. I still can find those little blank discs for DVD camcorders, but I doubt too many people are shooting video with them these days.

Beta and it’s industrial broadcast cousin Betacam share the same cassette design, (but are otherwise incompatible) so it was probably easy for Sony to keep production going a bit longer. Beta was popular enough in Japan that decks were still being made until 2002.

I nabbed some brand new Betamax tapes at a clearance store a few years ago. (Think I paid less than a buck a piece.) They might yet still come in handy. 😃

What I really want to know is, is that TFA tape pan and scan?

I’d be surprised if Lucasfilm made a special pan and scan edition just for Delta. They could have played around with the 4:3 format and used the variable aspect ratio IMAX version though 😃

That has absolutely nothing to do with the generic description you (and everyone else on youtube) gives when they can’t adequately describe why they don’t like a film…but okay.

EDIT:

If you don’t like the film that’s fine; you’re entitled to your opinion but please for the love of fuck don’t throw out terms just for the sake of it. I would rather you just say “I just don’t like it”

They still sell blank VHS tapes at my local target. There’s like two whole shelves dedicated to them in different sizes and brands.

I should look around and see if the Targets here carry as much. I suppose it would come in handy if Marty McFly and Doc Brown need a couple more VHS-C tapes. 😉

Or for converting your TFA Blu Ray to D-theater.

You misread my post. I knew about the cassette. If they can mass produce that, a VHS release isn’t impossible.

There is also a GOTG animated soundtrack tape now as well.
