On a side note I always loved that R2 fixed the hyperdrive given Han’s disposition towards droids
R2 doesn’t even fix it, he basically plugs it in!
Actually you’re right. If anyone did legitimate fixing it was Lando’s people.

“Did your men deactivate the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon?”
“Yessir, we had them unplug an easily accessible wire. They will think its something a lot more complicated, it should take them days to figure it out!”
“Couldn’t you just have removed it completely?”

Also when did Han become an expert on fixing The Falcon?
This kind of thing always makes me laugh, since Han’s whole act was just bravado. The other characters in ANH clearly know this and in ESB he never even fixes the broken hyperdrive.
Speaking of ESB who can forget when Han showed his prowess by hitting the Falcon with his fist to get some shit to work? If that doesn’t make you an expert then what does?

As I recall, Han fixing the Falcon with “percussive maintenance” was actually Harrison Ford doing that in real life when the cockpit set lights failed to turn on properly. 😄

Having just finished reading Bloodline, I’ve only just realised it was Korrie who Leia sends to her vainful death…

The only thing in this sentence I recognize as having anything to do with TFA is “Leia.”
JEDIT: Oh, I guess “Korrie” once I googled her. Never mind.
It, like, adds layers to the story, you know?
reylo?
So I read that the city planet that got blowed up wasn’t Coursant* (however it’s spelled)? Then what was it and how were we supposed to know? I only saw the film once, but I just assumed that it was the big city planet we’ve already seen, not a new one that hasn’t been mentioned. I actually found that whole scene confusing. Who were those people? Why did they choose those planets? Did I miss the part where they pointed out the whos, whats and whys?
*bread planet
Today is the end of the Republic! The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder! At this very moment in a system far from here, the New Republic lies to the galaxy while secretly supporting the treachery of the loathsome Resistance! This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand will bring an end to the Senate, to their cherished fleet! ALL REMAINING SYSTEMS WILL BOW TO THE FIRST ORDER!!! AND WILL REMEMBER THIS AS THE LAST DAY OF THE REPUBLIC!!!
That’s what made me figure they blowed up the bread planet. Isn’t it like the capital or something? What was the planet they did blow up and why was it important? And was this pointed out in the movie? I feel like I must have missed something.
Not a big deal either way, just curious.

indicated to me upon my first viewing that the Hosnian System was the capital of New Republic. The fact that the it’s guarded by at least part of the fleet and the Senate being there down right confirmed it.

He wanted Leia to appear at a certain moment in the film, for maximum “nostalgia” effect. Thus, important scenes like this were left on the cutting room floor.
That being said, I think Leia’s introduction in the final cut is perfect, but we lost scenes that could have provided much needed context.

Maximum nostalgia or not, that was the most effective place to put her introduction. I think having her in the film from the start would have been fan service when she only becomes important to the story halfway through.
That being said, I think Leia’s introduction in the final cut is perfect, but we lost scenes that could have provided much needed context.
Is that context really necessary for this film though? Whether the Resistance has the full support of the Republic isn’t something that really affects the story of TFA in any significant way.
Not to say there couldn’t or shouldn’t have been more context, but it wasn’t worth sacrificing the pacing and structure of the film just for the sake of these Resistance scenes.

I’d say it does need context, especially since this cut scene shows us Korrie’s relationship with Leia. In the final cut we only see her being vaporized, with no idea who she was.
That was my biggest gripe with TFA - there was no thorough explanation as to who was doing what in the New Republic. It is just miraculously destroyed… again.

Technically part of Hux’s speech briefly covers the relationship between The New Republic and The Resistance but not everyone is going to pick up on that while no one could possibly be confused with that deleted scene. Plus it’s just a funny scene in general.

It’s a few seconds and it’s not just her. It’s the Republic. That’s all we need to know.

But the thing is the New Republic wasn’t really all that important to this story.
The issue arises when people like us come in expecting a full on sequel to ROTJ, with all the questions about what’s happened since then answered. This is kind of the problem with how many view TFA, they want a direct sequel when that’s not really what it is. As a film by itself, I think it made perfect sense to streamline this aspect.
Again, that’s not to say neglecting explaining the situation at all was what should have been done (I’m not saying I completely agree with all of what they did, more just I understand where they were coming from and think it works), but I think, in the case of cutting this scene, it was the right choice.

TFA Restructured v2 may re-incorporate this scene into the Resistance Base, which would make it my go-to version of the film.

Still need to watch the first version, as I hear it really fixes up the final act of the film. If that scene can somehow be wedged into the film, I’ll definitely give it a watch.

Nothing like being pedantic, on-the-nose, and pretentious with your dialogue. Even George Lucas could write better lines than these.
If we were giving out Razzies for worst performance in TFA, Hux would definitely be nominated. But who would win?
Hux
Snoke
Captain Phasma
the Rathtars
Poe Dameron
Goggle Eyed CGI lady
Any other nominees?
