TWICE UPON A TIME (Released) — Page 2

Got it now as well, and I'll keep seeding it for the rest of you for a while (or for as long as I can afford the space on my hard drive). So now I have both the cut and the uncut versions.

Quality of the encode is very watchable, but definitely could be better. I'd love to see this make it into the hands of someone who can do a top notch job.

If no footage has actually been cut, wouldn't synching the HBO audio up to a better video source make more sense?

There is no better video source. The only time the unedited version of the movie has been aired was a few times on HBO in the 80s. Anyone who has a VHS of it has the best source available.

I tried cleaning up mine, but there are still artifacts from it being a second gen VHS that nothing can fix.

Hopefully he will get in touch and he'll be willing to lend his VHS to those who can really bring it to life.

I believe he was suggesting that the HBO audio be synced to the DVD version. In regards to that, some of the video of the HBO version was cut from the DVD release, but it would make sense to utilize the footage in the DVD version, and cut in the missing segments from the taped uncut version. And actually, I imagine that much of the audio in the two versions is the same, so the DVD audio could be used for much of it, and then the "dirty" audio could be used for the scenes that no DVD footage exists for, or where the audio was changed, but the video itself is the same between the two versions.

Edit: Meant "that no DVD footage exists for"...had it down as "that DVD footage exists for."

I would've suggested doing it this way too.

Unfortunatally, it wasn't released on DVD.

VHS prices from Amazon dealers range from $27.99 to $100 for "Used - Very Good" to $188.xx for "New".

There is a (censored) Laserdisc, which should look a lot better than VHS. I don't find one on eBay/Half.

IMDB says "Warner Home Video 20012" "Released 1991" "Available" "List Price: $34.98". It'd be cool if it really was available in retail, but I find that hard to believe.

Hey Cassius, did you get a chance to compare the torrent to your VHS?

Was video actually cut, or just audio muted/replaced?

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

I considered making a version that mostly uses footage from the commercial VHS or Laserdisc, and cutting the the bootleg version where need be, but the difference in quality would be REALLY obvious... so, for a more uniform viewing experience, I would personally like to see a 1st generation VHS recorded from HBO get properly capped and cleaned up.

The guy who made the torrent obviously has the source, we just need to get in touch with him about doing a good job on it.

That wiki article has at least one detail wrong. Side two of the Laserdisc is CAV.

Everyone in this thread has officially made my day. I have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD for ages, because the only copy I have is the one I recorded off the original LD. I've been afraid of watching it because it's such an old tape, but I've been planning capturing it so I can put it to DVD myself, but I thought I might check and see if anyone else has already done it. Usually I go to forums and information is about three years old, I was very happy and shocked to see Twice Upon a Time was available to download right this second.

You are all my heroes.

I watched his disc in entirety... as I said, it's ok. I'd love to clean up the audio and if he ever responds to my PM, maybe he'll hand over his VHS tape so we can really do a good job on it!

In any case, it's much better than the offical VHS/Laserdisc release and it's great that it's now out there in some form.

Not that I don't trust wiki articles, but comparing both versions to see if anything besides language was snipped would be a good idea. No way an ancient HBO recording is going to look better than the early 90's video release. And if Thief and the Cobbler can be reconstructed, patching whatever is missing from Twice Upon a Time ought to be feasible?
And I'd be happy to transfer my Laserdisc to DVD if someone can use it. I'm up to my neck in old S-VHS tapes at the moment though.

Would it be possible for a few people who have it to jump on and seed that zerotracker torrent for me pretty please? I've been looking everywhere for years for this uncut version, and am only getting 1 - 2 K/s, so it will take me a month to get it. I have a very fast connection and could download a couple of gigs in a day with enough good seeds. It would be VERY appreciated. Thanks immensely in advance to any kind hearted soul who helps out.

If someone can get a dupe of the laserdisc on dvd, my production studio and make every attempt to re-instate the uncensored version...

When I get a final copy of the unedited version, we will do what we can to reproduce it with all know elements.

I just got in contact with the person who posted the torrent, and they should be visiting this thread shortly.

Hey all. Looks like I've created a mess! I am the guy who transferred my original 1st gen HBO video to a DVD torrent. First of all, let me apologize for my erratice seeding of the torrent. I had some computer problems & some other issues since I first posted it that prevented me from properly getting the torrent out there. I will make sure it is available. Also, I might be interested in letting someone have the original to do a better quality transfer, but we would need to work out the details. I just want to make sure I get my original back. I hope at the very least that people were able to downlaod it and get the same enjoyment out of it that I have for the last 20+ years. That being said, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Hey NJ

Thanks for joining! I'm glad you got my message... I'm the one who started this thread.

Your DVD is very nice, and it looks like it's a popular torrent. I've done a lot of seeding for it myself.

It's great that you have an original tape!! It's like the holy grail. I have some good capture equipment and a lot of experience with filtering and MPEG encoding, so I think there's a chance I can make a DVD that looks even cleaner.

Send me a PM and we can work out an arrangement. I totally understand the value of that tape and hopefully you seeing that I started this thread in the first place will be proof that I will take good care of it!

I have the LD of this. Is it of any use if i transfer it to DVD?

The laser disc is the editied version... while I suppose it would be possible to use the laser disc for most of the film and edit in the audio and/or video from the VHS tape to "reconstruct" the original, I think the jump in quality will be so noticable it might be too jarring.

I am thinking of just doing the best transfer and cleanup possible on Njdedhed's VHS tape.

If someone else wants to attempt a Laserdisc/VHS hybrid edit, by all means speak up.

Remember, this isn't a commercial VHS tape, it's a tape that was recorded off HBO 25 years ago....

I don't know what the status of this project is, but I have an excellent original of the Warner Home Video release if it would be useful.

Box looks like this:

P.S. I've tried several times to upload an avatar of the correct type and size, to no avail. Anyone?

Wellp, downloaded the .iso torrent that's currently seeded, and am now after the myspleen torrent.

Anyone remember how to get in touch with the guy who has the good video tape of the HBO (uncut) version?

This sounds like a worthy project to me, as Twice Upon A Time is unique for its time. I own the same VHS version as others do and this is the only version I have seen. I do have a few slides and 4 press photos from the Ladd Films press kit. I don't think they are of any use to the project, just as my VHS is old and the wrong version. I figured I would let everyone know, as I am very interested in seeing Twice Upon A time preserved. Could some one let me know the status of the project. I wish I could help with this one.

Thanks
