The trailer looks good, as they all do. But the gamplay video left me a little cold. It seem very repetitive and similar to the 1st game, which is great if you enjoyed it, but looks to me as an expansion pack more than a new game that expands the story and adventure further.

I’ll wait to see some of the reviews and walkthrough videos a couple of months after release to see if this does surprise me and brings something new to the gameplay and series.

And I’m still hoping for that “open world” Star Wars game to happen! Has there been any solid news on that lately?

A few Star Wars “influencers” and gamers got to play the game early, in return for reviews? Just 5 of the Jedi: Survivor videos I quickly found:

I’m more interested in the FPS game, and the open world game too, than this. But it looks okay and probably will be enjoyable and a hit for those that liked the first game,

That Classic Collection calls to me. I mean they all call to me, but that Classic Collection does call more to me.

Dammit! That’ll be even more money spent on Star Wars!

Star Wars Jedi 3 Gets Exciting Announcement from Cameron Monaghan at The Direct

The Star Wars: Jedi franchise was confirmed to be back in active development for Star Wars Jedi 3, according to the series’ star Cameron Monaghan.

The very successful Star Wars Jedi series of video games has a lot to like about it: A charismatic lead, satisfying lightsaber combat, and a compelling storyline set between the Prequel and Original Trilogies.

The first game, Jedi: Fallen Order from 2018, saw young Cal Kestis grapple with the state of the galaxy as well as his own past as a padawan during Order 66. Its 2023 sequel Jedi: Survivor pitted Cal against the might of the Empire as well as a fearsome new villain called Rayvis.

Ocala Comic Con in Florida welcomed Cameron Monaghan of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fame for a panel on the game series (via Saix_XIII on YouTube.) It was there that the actor announced that Star Wars Jedi 3 is in development:

“We’re working on the third [game] and we’re in the process of doing it right now… So, that’s a big undertaking and there’s been some conversations so far. But hopefully, when all things are said and done, we’ll be able to go in and make something really cool for you guys again.”

I hope we get Eclipse and the FPS game before this. It’s great for the JS fans that this is getting another instalment, but c’mon, give us that FPS game next!

Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster Launches Exactly 29 Years After The Original - at Gamespot

“Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster launches February 28 for Xbox Series X-S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.”

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster - Reveal Trailer - 90 second video at the official Nightdive Studios channel

I like the look of this, not made it too modern, but more of an update that still looks and feels very much like the original Dark Forces. I hope so, anyway.

No mention of the price yet.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Formerly Emre1601 - computer hard drives are brittle too!

I couldn’t get into that game. I should have loved it, a simple blast 'em space shooter, but hardly played it. What didn’t about it for you, Flopsy?

In other news:

EA is laying off around 5% of staff, stopping development on a Respawn Star Wars FPS, and ‘winding down Ridgeline as a standalone studio’ at Tech Radar

‘We’re already aware of one of the games that has been affected by this change in strategy: a first-person shooter (FPS) Star Wars action game developed by Respawn Entertainment. Miele stated that gamers are “most excited” about Respawn’s existing library of brands, as well as its Star Wars Jedi games, which influenced the decision to move away from the FPS. Focus will instead be placed on “new projects based on our owned brands while providing support for existing games.”’

650 staff laid off and no new Star Wars FPS game. That sucks.

Some details on what the recently canceled Star Wars FPS game would have been:

https://insider-gaming.com/star-wars-mandalorian-game-canceled

'It’s been just two weeks since Insider Gaming exclusively reported on the first details on Respawn Entertainment’s first-person Star Wars Mandalorian game, but just yesterday, the game was officially canceled by EA.

First, it should be said that by all accounts this game was fantastic – and that isn’t just coming from the developers, but from everybody who had the opportunity to play the game. Feedback from playtests was always positive and surrounded by buzz, with the developers enjoying the entire process of working on the project. That being said, for whatever reason, EA felt like the game was too much of a financial risk and has decided to pull the plug.

What was Respawn’s Mandalorian Game?

As previously reported, the game was set to be based on a Mandalorian bounty hunter (not believed to be THE Mandalorian), that would see the player search for bounties across the galaxy.

The game started with ‘the den’, which was the player’s base of operations, that contained your ship, a map of the galaxy, an upgrade station, an armory, and more. It’s understood that it would be here where you would select which bounties you’d want to pursue. The player could then equip the weapons they wanted, upgrade their armor, and then go into the ship and land on the planet where the bounty is located.

The game was not an open world and instead offered a linear level experience, but did have some larger open areas for the player to explore and find their bounties and other secrets. Combat was described as very fast-paced due to the Mandalorian jetpack that allowed for vertical dashing and horizontal boosting for reaching those high-to-reach places. It was also said that there was a takedown feature, which would see your character perform takedowns, somewhat reminiscent of DOOM (but a lot less gorey) to take down enemies.

The main enemies were stormtroopers, who would patrol most maps as you try and complete your bounty and had several different types that you come to expect from a Star Wars game – regular, shotgun, sniper, heavy (rockets), and more. It’s also understood that the game featured ‘boss-like’ enemies periodically, which would see you face AT-ST walkers etc. Other enemies would depend on the planet you were on but could range from gangs of outlaws to other bounty hunters who wanted to beat you to the punch.

It’s believed that the game was still a ways off from its release, but it’s understood that the game had a fairly polished vertical slice and a few other missions/levels near completion.

The game was in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.’

‘Probably one of the worst launches of all time’: Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection players tear into Aspyr for bugs, crashes, and 3 64-player launch servers for nearly 10,000 users, at PC Gamer

The Classic Collection was meant to bring balance to Battlefront, not destroy it.

'Aspyr sure is running hot and cold at the moment. Right after last month’s well-regarded remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, the company has put out the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, an uprezzed repackage of the original, beloved Battlefront games. It came out today and, well, oh dear.

With over a thousand Steam user reviews already in, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has spiralled down to a “Mostly Negative” overall rating, as fans complain of bugs, crashes, server issues, and a borderline-unplayable multiplayer mode.

“Probably one of the worst launches of all time,” writes Steam user Dinkleberg, “none of us can get in a game and there are only 3 servers.” Similar complaints appear endlessly up and down the game’s Steam review page, which is currently a sea of red, and many users are imploring each other not to lose their two-hour refund window. “Don’t waste your two-hour refund window till confirmation of fix,” writes a user named Nightnight, “Currently, game is totally unplayable. Even if you manage to get into a server, players cannot spawn.”

The state of the games’ servers at launch are a frequent point of complaint. The original Battlefront games were adored for their multiplayer, but numerous players around the internet report that the Classic Collection launched with a sum total of three dedicated servers—64 players each—to serve almost 10,000 concurrent players. Players can host their own servers, which should help, but some users report that feature isn’t working properly for them either.’

Certainly not a good experience for anyone laying out anything like $35 for this. How hard can it be to make Star Wars gaming a good experience with lots of cool fun games to play, once again?

Sad state of affair for Star Wars gaming. Wasn’t so long ago that it felt they’d overcome these issues, but then they go and fuck it up again and again.

Absolutely, or even new RS games.

Squadrons ?

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

A bit too like a flight simulator for me, like the old X-Wing & TIE Fighter games, but all were still fun. I prefer the more arcade feel of RS games, or anything a bit like the Battle Pod or SW Arcade.

Maybe if the Rogue Squadron film or series ever happens we’ll also see a tie-in game?
