I heard that Belbecus made a recording of the Star Wars 35mm Stereo Mix from the 1985 LaserDisc. Does anyone know where I can download a FLAC of this? thanks.

There should be a thread where people can ask where to find certain projects or ask if they've been made as to not flood this forum with threads with two posts in them.

^ There have been several attempts, a dedicated a.b.sw thread, a general torrent thread.  It's a good idea, but people need constant reminder that a request doesn't mean it automatically shows up.

and there's the inevitable discussion of which method is preferred:

I prefer Rapidshare. Can anyone send me a direct link to where I can download the Stereo Mix?

There is also a very high quality theater reference version but not by belbecus, obviously not as good as the laserdisc.

Then you have the VHS rip floating around of the rental tape captured by thestarkiller.

That along with the 2 or 3 sources for the mono mix the only mix missing is the 70mm.

I think its pretty much been confirmed the 1997 special edition was not based on the 70mm but was derived from the same six track master used to make the 70mm version.

Sorry since I know this question is a bit off-topic but what mix was used for the stereo mix in the LFL Pwnage edition: the 1985 mix or this one?

This one, I think.  In addition to the mono and 1993 mixes.

The only actual difference in content the 1985 version has from the 1977 stereo is that they added the C-3PO line about the tractor beam, which previously had only been in the mono mix.  Other than that there's no difference except for the stereo image reportedly being wider and a possible increase in fidelity due to the remastering.

I grew up with the 1985 mix on vhs, so going back to the original is just how I remember it aside from that one line.  The 70mm is also very familiar, because while it has much greater dynamic range and bass presence, there are only a few minor changes in sound effects from the stereo mix.

The 1997 version does not come from any previous mix directly, but it's clear that the original tracks were used for most of it, because it still has that familiar sound of Star Wars in stereo for the parts that aren't changed significantly.  However, it generally doesn't come off as well as the 70mm version, because its dynamic range is usually somewhat lower, and its EQ tends towards emphasis of the high frequencies, which makes it sound a bit tinny and sometimes exposes noise in the source elements that was previously better masked.  (That's probably why they wanted to remix again in 2004, but we all know how horribly that turned out.)

What about Empire and Jedi's 35mm Stereo mixes?  Are there LaserDisc transfers of those anywhere?

Dark_Jedi captured them and put them on his GOUT V3 set, so once those are released, all three 35mm stereo mixes will be out in the wild (he's included the Belbucus one on his ANH disc as well, I believe).

I trust not long after that they will be online. Excellent. (:

Is the V3 out yet? Maybe someone could upload the stereo tracks when it is?
