Oh, that would have been worse. No such scene should ever have been shown. I still maintain that Vader never should have been revealed in the PT at all. A good writer could have told the story while leaving it appear as though Anakin has died. Vader should only ever be seen or referred to for the first time in ANH. It makes for a much more well-crafted story, and preserved the drama and surprises of the OT when viewed in order. Vader never should have been seen. It was just a cheap gimmick, and a poorly executed one, to hang a marketing campaign on.

This is so true, and Lucas always wants it both ways. He wants the saga now to be watched 1-6, but he wrote the PT with so many back handed references that would only work if you have actually seen 4-6 first!

Lucas says at the end of ROTS commentary, "I did not need to show all the stuff that ties to the OT at the end of the movie, including Luke & Leia being brought to their new homes, the death star being build, suited Vader rising, that is all exposition. But I knew alot of fans would have been real mad if that stuff was not in there."

Now I agree with Lucas cause I would have been mad too, but I am consistent that the saga should be watched 4-6 then 1-3. Lucas wrote the PT as a backstory to the OT with the viewer knowing the OT story, but wants the new viewer to watch the saga as a linear story 1-6 now?

I don't agree that Luke and Leia's birth's needed to be shown, or how they got to their new homes, or the building of the Death Star, and the three seconds of Tarkin which most people don't even pick up on). It was too much like a Star Wars theme ride crammed into two minutes on-screen...a waste. All that stuff doesn't really matter in the scheme of the story and could have been dealt with much less clumsily and much more craftily had some care been taken.

Most of the crap in the PT was pointless and need not be seen. And until the day I die, I stand by my belief that three cardinal sins were committed by Lucas in the OT:

1. Showing Vader, even mentioning his name, and linking him so concretely with Anakin. In a I thru VI mentality, terrible way to write the story and rob the ensuing chapters of ALL drama.

2. Yoda...another gimmick that NEVER should have been shown. He should have referred to only in name and left the surprise that he should genuinely be in ESB.

3. The Emperor, again a horribly executed gimmick. Never should have been shown fighting. Again, robs ROTJ of the shock value (no pun intended) of seeing the Emperor do his thing with Luke. Much as should have been done with Vader, his true indentity as the Sith Master should have been dealt with much more delicately, and I say left for full revelation in the OT.

Probably the best line of the trilogy.

I disagree....but I have no problem with the performance....I realize they were just struggling to get him to say SOMETHING that worked as "I love you too" didn't work. I just don't think it works at that particular moment and should have been done differently (with perhaps Leia doing something instead of saying something like reaching out for Han). Then again I'm probably in the minority of this opinion.

You're definitely in the minority, there. It totally encapsulates Han Solo's personality with two simple words- a guy who's in love with himself even when facing certain death (not to mention a bit of perfectly placed comic relief at one of the most tense moments in the film).

.....and it sure beats the line that was originally scripted:

LEIA: I love you.

HAN: I love you too.

I agree with you here. But I think that to make it even better, the line should have been mirrored during the unthawing scene in ROTJ. Han realizes who it is who has freed him, and says:

HAN: I love you.

LEIA: I know.

Then they kiss. That would have been awesome.

Remember, though, they do exactly that later on in ROTJ after Leia gets shot at the bunker door!

"Two fighters against a star destroyer?"

Worst delivered line in the entire six-film saga.

I can't disagree with that. I've often wondered what happened there....

^ha....yeah that one was winner.

As for the "I know".....perfect IMO.

The surfer/stoner delivery of the one Nemoidians "Fire! Fire!" was the first sign at the midnight showing that I was in for some historically lame moments ahead in the film. It's blatantly just....retarded.

Sorry if it was mentioned.
