Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD** — Page 80

Arguably, you had to have seen Star Wars to know what was going on in ESB. And the Holiday Special to know who Boba Fett was. ;)

Colson's death was the catalyst for the Avengers to start acting as a team. It wasn't just some throwaway tie in reference. I've only seen bits of Iron Man on tv and none of the other films before I saw Avengers, and had no trouble figuring out what was going on. Haven't even followed any Marvel comics in over a decade.

I get what Abrams is trying to say but i think its more correct to say star wars was otherworldly but familiar.

The tatooine stuff could have easily have come out of any old Hollywood Western.

Like a Howard Hawks film, or John Ford.

Also, UK peeps. Go be in Star Wars.

I like that they may be going for an original trilogy dynamic with the casting of unknowns for the main characters. Having the old crew return in a mentor position would make sense, and focusing on unknowns would help to make the movie unique. They certainly don't need to sell the movie with big names.

I see instead of a T1000 terminator robot it is the Fett1000 bounty hunter.

I didn't see The Holiday Special animated segment until a good 30 years into my life and never missed it. The equivelant would be if those two imperials officers instead of whuspering "We don't need their scum" had said "Ooh look there's Boba Fett, I wonder if he still rides that giant space brontosaurus?" ;-)

Re Avengers: Exactly Coulson's death was supposed to be the emotional climax of the film for characters and audience but it wasn't for me. I was just thinking why is everyone losing there sh*t over this minor character. I was struggling to remember when half the Avengers had even met Coulson and the other half of the Avengers had literally never met or heard of him prior to the film. Now if Nick Fury had died at that point I'd be right there with the characters on the same emotional page.

Nearly 40 years later and Prowse is still grumbling about how his voice wasn't used.  Have any of the other actors (whose real voices were replaced) been this vocal?

I didn't see any grumbling about it. In fact, it isn't even mentioned in the article Bing linked to...

With him saying "drop your accent" it almost suggests that had he done so, they would've used his voice.

I think he was more miffed they didn't use his face.

BTW if any of you film guys want a short bearded toothless weirdo from another planet to be in your Star Wars film PM me okay?

Maybe because Colson was nice guy who believed in what Capt. America stood for, and the idea of what the Avengers could be? Famous people are emotionally affected by meeting a fan who later died all the time.

The prequels sorely needed an a regular guy who believed in the Jedi and the Republic.

The moving of star wars from its summer release to December to accommodate the second Avengers movie has been expected for a while, does not mean it any less of a betrayal to the fans who expected star wars in May.

But now JJ gets the delay he wanted.  Just like he delayed the last 2 star trek films.

Also there was no way Disney would have star wars and Age of Ultron open within weeks of each other because they consider that bad for business.

Would have been interesting to see a Whedon VS JJ match of who is the better director and which film makes more money.

Right now I'm happy for it to be delayed considering all the designing, building and casting taking place without a finished script. I hope Disney realise that their profits for the next two decades will depend on EpVIII being well recieved. Sure delays may cause short term losses but they need to look at the big picture. This new SW era needs a rock solid foundation to restart the franchise.

Is it way too early or is Kathy Kennedy looking for directors for the other two episodes? Personally i would like a different one for each like the oot.

The prequels were way too uninteresting in my opinion because Lucas directed them all, wrote them all and there was a single director of photography. and the same editor on all 3.

I just hope it's not delayed three months in Japan like every geek movie seems to be doing lately.  The hobbit was the only movie we got at the same time last year, and now the second one isn't even coming out 'till the end of February.  Japan is constantly the last country in the world to get movies, usually two months after the second to last country.

Fingers crossed.

If you don't mind me asking... are you a citizen of Japan?

I already requested that day off work. If I have any luck in my life at all I'll be at a totally different job by that time, but just in case.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

It would be interesting if there was data on the number or people who took the day off, or called in sick on previous SW release dates. ;)

Hey, I'm not complaining too much. I just can't wrap my brain around seeing a new SW movie around Christmastime. A sequel worthy of the name would be the best present of all though. :)

I remember news articles at the time talking about this phenomenon, but don't see any online at the moment.

I'm bummed at Disney's decision to release in December, but happy that the creative team got the time they requested.

Ending a tradition is always tough, but the December release almost makes more sense, in a way. Forget the prequels, the epic SF&F trilogy of this generation was LOTR, each film released mid-December. Same goes for the Hobbit. Also, guess what the last film released on Friday, December 18th was: Avatar.
