hopefully with the sucess of the film and the dvd box set sales they will be smart and revive the t.v. show, which should'nt have been cancelled anyway.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
If you're a fan of Star Wars, you really owe it to yourself to check out the Serenity movie. Unless, of course, you don't like adventure, excitement, laughter and fun.
Its got great dialogue, the repartee between charcaters, humour and pathos that has been missing from sci-fi for years. Most of the time it seems that people think that the only thing sci-fi fans like on the big screen are explosions, and weird aliens, and taking things really seriously (laughter is out OK!!).

I'll have to get a fellow sci-fi fan's review before I see this. I'm afraid it will suck like all the other 90's-present sci-fi movies. (star wars excluded)
Originally posted by: segaflip I will have to check that out, for some damn reason I thought Chronicles of Riddick is one of the best scifi movies I have seen in a while. You actually liked that movie? It had some cool scenes in it, but Pitch Black was a much better movie by far I thought. To each his own I guess.

I'd think pretty much everyone on here is a sci-fi fan.
I had a great time at the movie. You could tell they had a buget to work with, but what they did with it was fantastic. I easily give it a B or a B+ grade. I am however a Firefly fan, so I might be impartial to that. But I think non Firefly fans will have a good time seeing this movie. Trust me, go and see it. Take your friends. Don't be closed minded going into it. If you do that, I think you'll have a good time. Probably not as good as Firefly fans, but you should still enjoy the movie. After that, buy the DVD set. After you watch all the stories and then go back for a 2nd viewing, you'll appreciate the movie even more. Trust me on that one.
Were there any non-Firefly fans that saw this movie? Thoughts?

Am in agreement with you in the tendency of 90's sci-fi to suck, but not ALL of it sucked.
Gattaca was great. The Minority Report was not too bad either (apart from the cheesy ending). Starship Troopers was fine satire.
I liked Serenity, it did not suck.
Its not perfect, but hey - neither were the Star Wars films, and that is one of the many reasons I like them so much (at least the first three).
Go and see it - we need a new francise that lets us laugh, and participate. Firefly/Serenity has the added bonus of an open and fun fan-base who are listened to and appreciated by the film-makers. Can anyone think of why this forum even exists?
Serenity was amazing. It's gonna be one of those movies that are tough to watch multiple times though, because once you see it you know the story. But I need to see it a few more times to really savor and appreciate it.
Sadly this barely cracked $10mil this weekend. I am shocked. I thought for sure Joss had a hit on his hands. I was lucky enough to catch the early fan screenings they did a few months back, and I also caught it this weekend. Joss says he is waiting to see what the second week brings, but with an opening this low, it is really hard to gain any legs.
Oh well... at least he got to finish the story. Firefly was a great show and I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it to any and all.
I did say that was all from me, but could not resist chiming in again.
You should go and see Serenity, and support the film, because if you don't then the studios will keep thinking that all Sci-Fi fans want to see are boring, bloated, tedious exercises where the only content is the sfx. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Buffy and Angel have nothing to do with this show. There are no vampires or magic lesbians; it's science fiction with an old west theme. Most of the technology is centered in the alliance, so the outer colonies live in wild west esque conditions.
But the thing that makes it so good is the characters. You'd just have to watch it to understand. It's sort of like Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, but with better characters.
