I've seen it twice and I am going again this weekend.

Unfortunately, even if it is successful, a return to TV is almost completely out of the question because of rights issues with Fox. There are certain things that Joss can and cannot do with his baby because of his deal with them. He has said that it is very unlikely that he will ever do anything for them again. BUT, if it is even semi-successful, Universal has stated that they will ride with it and give him another film. Joss properties make a LOT of money in the home video market and Universal knows this. I think they will wait for the eventual DVD release until they make a decision on whether or not to go ahead with a sequel. These days, a flick doesn't necessarily have to make a mint at the box office. Hell, MANY films make more money on DVD than they ever do at the BO.

yeah the other reason why its going to be so hard is because the events of the movie make it very difficult to continue with the tv storyline. I STILL CAN"T BELEIVE THEY KILLED HIM. damnit

"But The SW DVDs and Serenity don't have anything against them!"

There's plenty against the SW DVDs, all documented. That's why I haven't bought or watched them.

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Just wanted to say: my wife and I both loved it. That movie kicked ASSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It certainly helped that it was a matinee, and there were like four other people in the theater.

I just found out my neighbor hasn't seen the show, so I'm taking my Firefly DVDs over for him to watch while his wife recovers from gall bladder surgery.

How can you so summarily dismiss something you've not seen?

Quite easily actually, I dod it all the time in reference to different things: the new '04 SW DVDs, smoking, drugs, movies like Cannibal Holocaust, etc..

Hey I think that there is some "winding up" of you guys: That is, deliberate pushing of all your wrong buttons. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS.

Took a couple of my friends along to see it - one of them was my test run, and she LOVED it. This is someone who didn't like the Firefly DVDs much!

Film is a a damn sight better than most of the other dross out there.

I think that they may well get a second film out of this;

See this book on amazon as to reasons why - which is pretty much what was pointed out by someone earlier; films these days make more money on DVD and home entertainment sales than they do in cinema release.

BTW: Am not trying to push this book! If you scroll down the page there is a review with summary of the books' central argument.

"films these days make more money on DVD and home entertainment sales than they do in cinema release."

I've known that for awhile. It's getting to the point where the theatrical release is merely an advertisment for the inevitable DVD release.

Never thought of it like that but you are totally right. And a pretty damn pricey advertisement too when you can buy the DVD for the price of 2 cinema tickets.

You are darn right it is!

In terms of the assumed Firefly/Serenity francise - someone on another board was saying that they would probably wait for the DVD sales figures to decide wether to invest in sequel/s.

Anyways, have not had as much fun with SF in cinema since I was a kid going to see the original Star Wars movies, and don't really care anymore if people are closed minded about it. They are just missing out, and only have themselves to blame for it.

From what I remember, it's all one long (I don't think it was entirely continuous) camera shot full of character introductions, so that makes sense.

"someone on another board was saying that they would probably wait for the DVD sales figures to decide wether to invest in sequel/s."

To my knowledge, the TV DVDs have sold well (200,000+ units). I can't imagine that the theatrical version won't do well either.

Some reviews at www.browncoats.com
'm not going to say it's the best science fiction movie, ever.
Oh, wait. Yes I am." - Orson Scott Card

5/5 "The first masterpiece of 2005" - Stefan Halley Hero Realm

A+ "Can proudly be placed alongside “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Blade Runner” as one of the best science-fiction movies of modern cinema." - Edward Havens FilmJerk.com

"Scene for scene, 'Serenity' is more engaging and certainly better written and acted than any of Mr. Lucas's recent screen entertainments." - Manohla Dargis New York Times

4/4 "'Serenity' earns director Whedon spot on sci-fi's Mount Rushmore" - Peter Hartlaub San Francisco Chronicle

A- "It's equal parts deadly action, deadpan comedy and knotty mystery." - E! Online

4.5/5 "The film is teeming with an overwhelming amount of integrity, heart, soul, and some of the best written characters to invade genre fiction in quite some time." - Spence D. IGN FilmForce

3.5/4 "[Joss Whedon] makes the smart choice to create drama through character development rather than action." - Lawrence Toppman Charlotte Observer

3/4 "Serenity is made of dubious but energetic special effects, breathless velocity, much imagination, some sly verbal wit and a little political satire." - Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

"Serenity" flies with sass and spirit, qualities that have been in palpably short supply in that "Star Wars" series since, well, "Star Wars." - Jan Stuart Newsday.com

I love that last one.
