What happened to that holophonic sound idea?
What happened to that holophonic sound idea?
Would be nice to see this misterious 'Second Unit' to refilm some Ewok-shots for ROTJ:R.
The Falcon and the Frigate: I had problems spotting the differences in the models. Did you spot the differences in movie-realtime or in slow-mo?
Size of Falcon and Han: I agree this should be fixed as it is the one and only scene we see Han on top of the Falcon in comparison to the cockpit and the bulk of the ship. This is one scene and a subtile change the Revisited Editions can be so proud of in general!
* * *
One error I just spotted in (ANH and) ANH:R: When Tarkin forces Leia to "name the system" the pov changes to Leia's face and we see on the left of the shot Tarkin's chin moving as he is still pronouncin "system". So we see him saying "system" two times but can hear it once only.
*This Revisited Edition is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we watch it!*

I still agree for the reasons you mention.. NOT to mention, when Lando goes up the (extremely long) secondary roof hatch on the Falcon to get Luke after he falls from the Bespin antenna, is the opening way too tall, considering Han's size on top of the Falcon during the Hoth repair scene?
I can take it either way though... again, I understand Ady is doing all the work, though that change would be cool, even if it was just for that one shot.
Ady: speaking of the "Lando going up the roof hatch" scene, is that going to be modified in any way (taking out one of the door opening scenes, which would shorten the tunnel; skies and lighting changed to orange tint to match other outside shots of Bespin at dusk/dawn - which I think it is, since we see the sun rising along Bespin's edge when the Falcon reaches space)?

Well the colors are fixed in the AVCHD. where are blue there are oranges.
I have suggested loooooong time ago instead of the black nothing that we see behind lando, that actually have some cloud movement or at least some motion/background.

Im not so sure about the new sky it have to be more bright but at least the background buildings are gone for sure!
I've updated the sky, think it looks a bit more like the previous shot anyway have a look.

Forgive me for not being very tech-savvy, but will the AVCHD DVD-9 be playable on regular DVD players?
I think it would be great if, along with the AVCHD , Ady creates a 720p .mkv encoded in x264. The quality is extremely high, though compressed, and is playable in many different media players, on any computer that has the proper codec, as long as the computer can keep up with HD playback. It also benefits from a smaller file size; a 2-hour .mkv in 720p usually can fit on a single DVD-5 for storage. I would definitely want the AVCHD for the ultimate quality, however, I don't even have a blu-ray player yet, nor an HDTV, but I can play .mkv's on my pc and they look incredible. It would be a great alternative for folks who don't yet have blu-ray capability. On the other hand, I think AVCHD will play on the pc as well. Just a thought - I'm a big fan of .mkv at the moment.
By the way, I was playing Trivial Pursuit earlier with my girlfriend, and the question she got was "What are the odds of navigating successfully through an asteroid field, according to C-3PO"! (The category was space). I thought that was hilarious. I wished it had been my question, since at least that was one I knew.

No. The whole idea of AVCHD is that it's effectively a Blu-Ray signal squashed down to fit on a standard DVD-9. It's about space compression, not backwards compatibility.
My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Indeed you are powerfull!
Considering the the 3d Camera projection technic (im to close to learn it) is the most appropriate in this case, because we can real life/set textures projected on a 3d space. Removing the 2d layers effects with something more efficient.

As for the matte No idea if ady changed it already considering the wrong placement of the buildings. I remember doing a small analysis as well with ImpFighter.
Jaitea you have a PM

Thanks Angel, those clips are amazing, heres some screen grabs of the layout of the 3d program I use, 'Apple Motion'
J
I'll just go over in a corner and sulk at the notion that Motion is "3D" now. k? :)
Its not really 3d, its 2.5d it doesn't support 3d objects just 2d images in a 3d environment, maybe Motion 5 will be true 3d

Indeed 2,5D.
With 3d camera projection that flat look can be solved:)

Is it a plug-in for Ae?

Andrew kramer gave a good tutorial but for limited results to be honest.
3d camera projection is to project an image to a 3d geometry. To have a more real look with subtle movements( im refering again to darth editous bespin shaft matte)
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/submerged/
-Angel
Gonna have to get into that, very interested!!
Thanks Angel
J
The benefits of that technique is that it uses images as textures without looking 3d or fake or CG or whatever.
There are examples of intense scenes done with that way. When the sets are not available and originality is top priority.
-Angel
This is absolutely great, camera projection also works very well in C4D which I use for work.
Found a tutorial & work files to practice with (looks a bit like Hoth).

Since you brought it up vaderios, here's that neat Darth Editous shot for anyone that missed it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1TQ11frJ0A
Although a comparison clip would have shown the difference clearer, you can see how the walkway at the front of the Vane rises upwards in relation to the surrounding backdrop behind it....compared to the static 'zoom-in' of the original matte.
It really adds depth, and that's some great stuff that you and Jaitea have shown about all these kinds of effects.
Can't wait to see what Adywan has decided to do with his whole Vane sequence eventually....
Indeed ImpFighter.
Now can someone tells me that this look fake or CGI?
And of course fixing the wrong aspects of this matte. Like we know them already dont we? ;)
-Angel
*cough* ;)
DE
PS Oops, crossed posts with ImpFighter!
Hah take some HALLS DE :)
In fact i could beg to see this clip in HD :O
-Angel
Any chance of a split-screen comparison with the original sometime DE?
I definitely like the way the matte looks. Every time I see it, there isn't anything fake about it.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

You guys are worse than George you know that?
That is to say I'm not sure how that makes it a better movie. And while the main "sail" part looks fairly good the room itself and for matter the way it connects to the sail looks kinda like a cardboard cutout, if you'll excuse me. It could probably use with a different field of view, some lens distortion, 3D fog and something more three dimensional to connect it.
