Also notice: In the novel this scene ends with Hobbie's damaged snowspeeder crashing head on into General Veers' walker.
There are scenes in the movie that can be edited to create such a dramatic climax for General Veers.
1. We see Hobbie's snowspeeder being hit when he follows Luke as his wingman (1st approach).
2. We see an AT-AT's head exploding.
3. We see General Veers watching through his periscope.
4. We see the snowspeeder approaching head on (smoke missing however).
This could be edited as "the end of Veers (and Hobbie)".
The storyline from the novel does not appear in the actual movie in which the Empire's attack is shown more dominant. If I'm not mistaken the crash is happening when Veers is aiming at the generators through his periscope when his vision is suddenly distracted by the attacking snowspeeder and its kamikaze course.
Confirmation: "General Veers lived up to both his reputation and Lord Vader's expectations by quickly deploying his armored regiment, designated Blizzard Force, into the Echo Base mountain valley and personally destroying the shield generator protecting the Rebel base. Shortly after the destruction of the shield generator, Rebel snowspeeder pilot Derek "Hobbie" Klivian flew his damaged vessel directly into the cockpit of Veers' Blizzard One walker. (This takes place only in the Empire Strikes Back novel, and is not seen in the movie.)"
