Surely it makes more sense to remove the name Skywalker from the prequels - films that need to be deconstructed to their basic elements anyway before they might be fixable.
Jeez, I forgot that people spent a whole thread begging not to kill Lando. Although, in all honesty, it probably wouldn't work well for ROTJ. After all, Star Wars is a story where good comes through. Lando wouldn't deserve to die; although, I'd be astonished if someone killed off Han. ;)
This is really in the realm of the radical redux thread but the easiest course as far as I can see would be to create the impression that Vader and Skywalker are two different people and Anakin dies trying to save Mace and is killed by Vader. That way Anakin can still be openly a Skywalker and Vader can still possibly be someone else.
I have said too much (here at least).
Or refilm the prequels with Obi Wan having 2 apprentices - where it's implied that one turns to the dark side and betrays the other - but in Empire we find out it's not the one we thought it was.
I agree that a lot of work needs to be done on the PT, but I think a lot of people are scared to touch the OT and make drastic changes. The only way to make the story work chronologically is to change both of them to fit a new, single continuity, because neither of them lends enough to the other's continuity through changes to a single trilogy.
Removing "Skywalker" from the PT becomes awkward because you have to cut nearly every formal reference to Anakin, and his reference to his mother.
Also, without the "Skywalker" in the prequels, there is less impact with the discussion of "Anakin Skywalker" in RotJ
Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan
I think the reluctance stems from most people being quite happy with the OT when they first saw it, and making logical assumptions that Lucas would adhere to what he had already created when he made the PT. Unfortunately this was not so. This leads many, including myself, to believe that the problem lies more within the PT than the OT. I personally dont think that the original source material should be changed all that much to make it fit better with the garbage that was the PT. Lucas lost his mind, we didn't.
Not gonna say anymore after this because it's off topic, but removing "Skywalker" from the PT is easy.
Easier than changing Skywalker to Lars at any rate, which is impossible to do convincingly - no soundbite of Luke saying 'Lars' and we SEE him say Skywalker.
It's a dumb idea.

Insane Lucas, was Insane.
Impossible for Adywan... Blasphemy! :P I'm willing to bet he could find someone to dub it almost perfectly, and manipulate the mouth to make it look like Luke says" Lars".
I also think it is on topic, because it is an idea for the upcoming ANH:R HD...
Agree to disagree. I do doubt Ady will go this direction, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

To the folks who want to see the "No, I am your father" surprise properly preserved:
What do you do with Vader referring to Obi-wan as his former master, knowing the feeling, that tremor in the force, and their conversation during the duel on the Death Star? I assume that you can do away with the post-lava scenes in ROTS, but even excising those doesn't solve the problem.
they make it seem that darth vader is a different apprentice
John Williams score to Return of the Jedi Remastered/Remixed:

Problem is, that's pretty much impossible with prequel footage. It only works on a complete prequel re-write.
But yeah, that's my preferred way - Obi-Wan has an apprentice before Anakin, and by the end of the PT, we assume that Anakin is dead and his first apprentice is Vader.

Using meshwarp to animate the faces of rubber cantina aliens is one thing. Human faces is another.
He hesitated on doing it with the emperor hologram even, let alone regular actor footage.
Even if he wanted to do it (HE WON'T!) it wouldn't work. Lol.

Yeah; I guess so. Anyway, I always was weirded out that they didn't bother to give Luke a new name, while Leia had the last name Organa.
Never thought of that... Mind blown.
Sorry to jump in with a Noob post but, I've only just found the Star Wars Revisited Fanedit and I'm amazed. Adywan has done what I wish I had the time and skill to do myself, only more thoroughly and better than I imagine I could ever do. I've watched the DVD-5 NTSC version of the full edit and would now like to see the Purist Edition. I've found it via Rapidshare but am missing file # 14, which seems to have happened to several posters on this and other forums. If anyone is able to help me, I'd appreciate it.
I haven't done a fan edit of anything myself, but to attempt to establish some Star Wars Geek cred myself, I'd ask anyone who's interested to search for "The Chatty Duelists" by VFXFreak on YouTube to see my Lightsaber version of "The Princess Bride" swordfight. It's nothing like Adywan's work, but it did take some time and care.
Thanks to all of you that do these Fan Edits. I'm now obsessed.
And thanks to TV's Frink for directing me here.

check the rar files you have downloaded. There should be an extra rar file that conatins rar 14. just unpack that file into the same directory as your other rar files
Tell me if that works for you VFXFreak because if it does, I'm definitely downloading the Purist Edition.
Thanks for the quick reply. Once JDownloader has finished, (sometime in the next millennium or so), I'll check for the extra file.
Thanks even more for the effort you put into your version of the movie. I work in the film industry and it was Star Wars that inspired me to do so. The 1993 transfer of ANH is pathetic and I never liked the special editions. You've made Star Wars something I'm willing to watch on TV again. I'm looking forward to your restoration of ESB. Keep up the good work.
What's in the purist version exactly?
Also, i think the PT just needs to be left alone. I'm not saying Ady couldn't do an amazing job. But i've watched all six of them in a row and i see no point in touching them.

Well then by all means be happy watching your retail DVDs.

Maybe he means they are unsalvageable? That's pretty much my stance on 'em.
^That's what I make of his statement too. But who knows? :p
Oops, yeah I think you guys are right. I disagree, but not as vehemently as I did at first ;-)
I too don't see how they can really, truly be changed, but I look forward to Adywan tearing them apart anyway.
