But it’s logical I liked the Maul caméo since I find the “alternative” SW (TCW, Rebels) more interesting than the new movies. If you don’t like the tvseries, the caméo can seem weird but as a matter of fact if you’re dealing with the underworld between Ep3&4 Maul is somewhere pulling strings. Palpatine has the galaxy, Maul the underworld, Sith have won on all fronts. I love the idea.

I wish Maul had been a real actor 'cause it seemed he was CGI, right ?

As usual, your opinion proves to be about as far away from my own as possible.

I don’t have any problem with the logic of it, and it apparently was actually Ray Park (though it looked bad). Just didn’t fit the movie at all.

Well, lucky for you. I wish I had also fallen in love with this new movie, but I don’t. At least the soundtrack is cool, very Pan vs How to train your dragon oriented, good Powell work here.

The hologram effect looked weird then. The movie is kinda a complete mess with a Fast & furious third acte that doesn’t make any sense, so I’m not sure that anything was fitting during 2 hours.

I really liked it. Probably my favourite SW film after ESB, RO and ANH. The fan service actually felt like nerd trivia, with hints at the wider universe - not lingering shots on cantina aliens or droids - well except for the big red stinker.

I’d probably trim the Maul bit so he is just a cowled figure with robotic legs, or at most reveal a face - but the lightsabre seemed a little unecessary. I found him a bit jarring and it took me out the film.

As with an ideal Rogue One edit that has a crawl, and has a single sustained time period (ie no time jumping or flashbacks) I’d like to figure out how a space opening could work. I assume you could probably open with Star Destroyers over that planet where Han is a soldier. Would the film really make much sense without the Corellia scenes though? It would definilty lose alot of the character connection.

Easiest fan edit ever: cut the Maul scene entirely. You’ve just made the film ten times better!

This. The only part of the whole movie I really did not like.

I have a idea for a edit where the whole score is replaced by Guns and Roses and others, Based on this.

please put im han solo in the credits

Nah it’s impossible to add Han Solo in a fanedit. Don’t have other choice but keeping the guy who pretends to be Solo. Maybe cutting all references to Han Solo ?

(edit: it’s a joke! Just a joke. Don’t take it wrong guys…)

What? That was Ray Park, the original actor, dubbed over with Sam Witwer’s voice.

Then I have no idea why he looked so bad.

Right?

It looked like melted cheese made a baby with a terrible CGI render from Star Wars: Rebels, I have no idea what the hell happened there. It looked atrocious.

I really liked Solo but the cameo was so forced and just plain bad on a cinematic level. The majority of the audience only watches the films, and yet they’re going to chuck in a character that, as far as most people are concerned, died 20 years ago, without explanation? And make him look like that?

Nobody is allowed to complain about fan service in any other Star Wars film thus far after this absolute travesty of 60 seconds of film reel.

First things I noticed:

Remove opening and “unneeded” text
(A long time… straight to the action)

Trim slug lady at the beginning to have less humor

Recut so Han says his name is “Han Solo” not just Han

Trim overly quippy dialogue from Han throughout the film

If possible, remove Chewie subtitles, we never needed them before and we don’t need them to make the scenes work

Keep, but trim down L3 politics… god some of them were “forced” 😉

Trim over-the-top space monster moments

Cut it so as soon as Beckett goes towards his gun Han shoots him

Agree on all these exactly what I thought except Han should shoot 1st that scene was a good character builder.

He still should shoot first, I’m saying when Beckett move his hand towards his gun Han shoots then and doesn’t let the conversation go longer.

Valid point DZ-330, not sure why Mauls getting the most interest seemed like a valid charactor arc and nice surprise at the end if anyone should get the snip its that over the top droid.
Mauls gonna look bad if hes been brought back from the dead and 20 years older from when we last saw him right.

One thing that I’m wondering is if in ten years (give or take) there’s enough movies that have enough overlapping timelines that we’ll be able to intercut them.

For instance, the opening of Rogue 1 takes place before the rest of it, the opening act of Solo takes place before the rest of it, at this rate if we receive enough chunks of different time frames we could make movies that are driven by the chronology and not just the individual satellite installment.

I am not thrilled to see Maul in this one and my inclination is snip-city, however, didn’t they say the actor playing Han is signed for two more movies? The only point of re-introducing Maul is to have him in a future movie, so going fanedit happy on that scene may backfire when he shows up again in Solo Part Two or Obi Wan part one comes out or where ever he pops up again.

You can have him pop up in future movies without the unnecessary set up in this one. Not missing anything.

Really enjoyed the film, I didn’t mind Maul’s cameo, and it serves a purpose since it shows that Qi’ra is a double/triple/quadruple agent serving a higher figure, and that she didn’t just take off with the ship to abandon Han. I do think that the opening text should be condensed to a standard opening crawl, similar to how many edited Rogue One.

Another idea I had would be to cut down the scene where Han gets his name. I didn’t hate him getting the name Solo from an Imperial officer, but I did roll my eyes during the scene, so I think cutting it down to the officer asks for his name, Han smirks, and then the cut to the battle scene. Or, if I ditch the opening crawl idea, cut from Han smirking to the Solo title card.

I also think that the film could benefit from some light (not literally) regrading. A lot of shots looked a bit dull and flat, a bit of tinkering with the contrast could help.

Oh, and get rid of Chewbacca’s subtitles, I never felt like I needed to know what he was saying.

I don’t remember Chewie having subtitles? I remember Han having them when he spoke Shrywook.

Maybe that’s what I was thinking of…regardless I think that it would actually be funnier for Han to just be making gargling noises with no subtitles, and yet Chewbacca picks up on it anyway.

Cut some of the more intense L3-37 moments.
Change Han getting his last name by a recruiter.
Cut some of the humor in the droid “rebellion”

That’s about all.
