So any news on this "feature rich" version? I'm happy with the KCCI edition but I'm still interested.

The one that I was talking about with some very exclusive extras won't likely be out this year. But when it does come out (hopefully early next year), it should be rather impressive.

With Laserman's recent talk of the 'blackmagic' process for x0project
Then stealing an idea from the astronomy boys, try to treat it as a multipass capture of the same source (which it basically is) and create a composite image throwing away noise and gathering detail to get a final result that is a lot cleaner and more detailed than any of the individual laserdisc transfers are on their own.

which sounds similar to the method Citizen used for his PAL captures.

Has anyone considered this sort of approach to create an optimum version of the holiday special?
Any ideas how much potential gain there be from combining various different versions of holiday special together with some sort of fame averaging?
This is assuming that the various sources could be alligned to match eachother.

And by extension could comibing audio from different version yield a better audio track? Is there such a thing as 'audio average' different sources together?

I like the idea, but I think part of the problem is that the KCCI version is so much better than any other source in terms of quality that it seems unlikely there would be much, if anything, to gain from even bringing one of the other copies into the mix.

The other problem most likely is finding someone with both the skills and the inclination to work on such a project. I might have the inclination, but certainly not the skills required.

But I don't want to discourage anyone else who might be so skillfully inclined.

So recently, I've been reading about a "remastered" version. How does it compare to the KCCI version?

The version that was called "remastered" (technically it was cleaned up a bit but not remastered) is inferior to the KCCI version, most noticeably in color, but also because it was edited to cover up missing or damaged footage at the beginning of the tape. Prior to the KCCI version's discovery it was the best quality version available.

I think calling it "remastered" was mostly wishful thinking on the part of the person(s) distributing it.

Well we could use the "remastered" version as a fill-in to cover up the network logo and use part of the full version of whatever composition was used in the credits to cover up the announcer talking.

This was actually done on the "remastered" version: they took the credits and used John Williams' soundtrack music to get rid of the announcer. I didn't even notice it right away; it was done pretty well. However, I don't think it was exactly the same recording, so it's not the most accurate representation. A better trick would be to take one of the international versions from France, Sweden, or Australia and use the audio from the credits there, where there is no CBS announcer present.

As far as covering up the network logo goes: this could be done, if someone really thought it was worth the trouble. I can live with the logo, myself.

The KCCI version is the best version out there, so yes. There are Angrysun editions of both the KCCI and KCMO broadcasts, but hands down, get the KCCI one.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

That sucks. I wish I could help but uTorrent keeps giving me an error that I don't have the files every time I try to seed.

I'm pretty sure I have both. I'll try to check them out later tonight and see if I can help seed.

I just noticed that there's 2 seeders on the KCCI version and 5 seeders on the other version. I don't think it needs any help seeding right now and I've got other things I need to use my bandwidth for.

Well I'm looking now and the KCCI edition has no seeders and 1 leecher. The other one is the one with more of each.

Hi, I'm a lurker here, and now that I've finally come up with an interesting project I need a bit of help. I'm working on a documentary about the Holiday Special, from conception to production to today. I've managed to find production stills, concept art, all the clips I need, all the information I need, an animated deleted scene, the tv-land clip, fighting the frizzies, and a fox news clip. What I'd like from you guys is anything (info, pictures, video) that absolutely must be included in the documentary, or some behind the scenes footage, though I doubt any exists. I especially need a photo of Steve Binder, I've looked everywhere and can't find one. Please post what you have here if appropriate or e-mail anything to me at llamamanz57 AT yahoo DOT com. Thanks in advance.

Well, there's some cast & crew comments culled from various sources on the StarWarsHolidaySpecial.com website, as well as the Fox News clip and TVLand "100 Unexpected Moments of Sci-Fi" clip. Or perhaps you need the caption of Boba Fett's 1980 toy pre-release caption that mentions the HS in this article. The script and BTS phots are on there, but I assume you already have them.

And if you want something terminally bad, go find the review of the "Christmas In The Stars" album on X-Entertainment.com, grab the title track and have it play over the end credits. BWA-HA-HA!

There is a fan-made set of Chewbacca's family on this site. A curiosity, but it's something.

And if you need a picture of Steve Binder, there's a small picture of him here. It's for the Elvis Comeback Special, but he was the director of that in addition to his work on the Holiday Special.

Have you contacted me in the past? If not, you should. There are at least a couple of people who have said they want to work on a documentary on the Holiday Special. I'm all for it.

I've got picutres of the Chewbacca family prototype toys, but thank you very much for the picture of Steve Binder, crazyrabbits. SKot, I found a few of those things (the videos and a few of the pictures) on your website. I hope you don't mind, I was going to put the web adress in the credits. I have not contacted you in the past, and I think it would be awesome to have other people working on it as well, I had no idea there was any interest. About the deleted scene, the inormation simply said that it was going to be a part of the Nelvana cartoon. As far as I can tell from the version I downloaded, for the dialogue they recorded a guy singing "hot water used for laundering - less than a load of dirty things - HORRIBLE HABITS! - yeah, don't scoff, 'cause wasting electricity turns people...off" and reversed it. Is this correct or is there a different story?

Many people have taken tons of things from there in the past and not bothered to mention the site even once (in particular a certain Swedish magazine), which is a mystery to me. I'm fully in support of a documentary, so feel free to use anything you wish.

Definitely drop me a line so we can collaborate on info. Use 'skotk', and put that in front of a Hotmail address.

That is correct. The cut piece was a fake animated commercial that was in the spot where a real commercial would be inserted later. Apparently for the audio they took a real 70s Canadian energy conservation commercial and reversed the audio. It's strange sounding either way. There are also intro and outro animation clips included in that sample you saw that are not present as such in the final cartoon either.

Are there any current torrents of the KCCI version? I'd love to get my hands on a copy!
George Lucas, October 1979: There are essentially nine films in a series of three trilogies. I have story treatments on all nine.
George Lucas, February 1999: I never had a story for the sequels.

Or you could have someone send you a copy. You'd have to turn on your private messages first.
