Preserving "French" Original Trilogy - ANH V1.0 released - ESB in progress — Page 7

I'm preparing a first release of "La guerre des étoiles".

Do you think it is better to release it as an mkv file or as AVCHD ?

There will be a second release later as a Bluray with a menu and with a better encoded Greedo sequence. Because on the first release I must have added the subtitle on a sequence who was already encoded in h.264. So this sequence is twice encoded.

I plan too to make an audio track based on the great 70mm mix of hairy_hen, but that implies a lot of work and time.

With the help of _,,,^..^,,,_  I have now a new track :the 2.0 THX LD track sync to the GOUT.

There are now 6 tracks :

- 2.0 from the GOUT

- 2.0 from 1st LD release

- 5.1 recreate from the GOUT audio + hairy-hen LFE

- 5.1 from 2004 DVD

- 2.0 from the VHS of the TV release

- 2.0 from the THX LD

As you can see the font is not the same as for the Italian or German release. It looks like Arial. I made a test and it looks good :

Are the 16mm and the 35mm reels using the same font ? I hope so and this will be my new reference for the french Greedo sequence.

Here are another 2 shots from the 16mm reels, the intro of ANH and the intro of ESB. As you can see, the french ANH has the english crawl but all the rest is in french.

Man, that's weird! I would've thought the international releases would all use the same font. But that makes this find even more important, well done! :)

Actually I don't own the reels, but I'm trying to obtain them. And yes the quality looks very good !

ilovewaterslides you are right about the sound, it sounds like the TV VHS. Maybe it's because it's a mono mix.

Laserschwert, you know, french people have always wanted to do things different as the others do... ;)

Actually I'm doing the new subtitles based on the 16mm reel.

After that I will release a first version of the movie, certainly as AVCHD.

Then after the release of Harmy's Blu-ray, I will release a french Blu-ray.

I'm not sure how to share the files. I think I will put them on myspleen, but I have never make a torrent in my life, so I must first learn how to do this. Or maybe If anyone can help...

Hello everybody, I'm new here and this my first post too. Like everyone here I'm a big fan of the Star Wars trilogy, especially the unaltered versions, I saw them when I was a kid. My father saw the original unaltered trilogy at theater and that's why I'm here too. I'm french and I would like to watch the original french version with my father (he doesn't understand a word of english). But I don't know how works MySpleen for download the torrent file when it will be available. If someone can tell me how does it works (it would be nice!). Thanks in advance.

Another thing, I would want to thank Marvin, Harmy and all the persons who worked for giving us the chance to watch the unaltered trilogy in better way, the only true versions for me.

I think I succeed to put the files on myspleen.

This is a full french version of Harmy’s STAR WARS - DESPECIALIZED EDITION REMASTERED. It is based on the v2.1 version.

File format : AVCHD folder, 720p/23.976fps

It include :

• A full french intro with a redone crawl based on the 1977 french crawl

• Full french ending credits redone based on the 1977 french ending credits

• French subtitles on Greedo sequence based on a french 16mm reel.

It also include :

• the original french stereo track from the GOUT

• a 5.1 audio track based on the 2.0 GOUT track decoded in Dolby Surround + the LFE track from hairy_hen 70mm mix.

• a 5.1 audio track based on the 2004 DVD release

• a 2.0 audio track from the first Gold LD release

• a 2.0 audio track from the THX LD release

• a 2.0 audio track from the rip of the first french TV release

The only sequence that is not full quality is Greedo sequence, because I take the sequence from Harmy’s release which was already compress, I modify it to add french subtitles and I recompress it using x264.

All the others sequences are not recompressed and or the same quality as Harmy’s DE Remastered release.

Later will come a Blu-ray version with menus, bonus and a full quality Greedo sequence. But don’t wait for it, it will certainly take a certain time.

So here it is, “La Guerre des Etoiles”.

I have been trying to do proper french subtitles for months, in order to share the original movie with my family.

Now I see that not only I don't need to do them anymore but that there is also a FULL french "Star Wars"...

By the way, last weekend I have made a translation of Harmy's featurette but as I am in a "student room", I can't upload or download anything right now. But this weekend if it's posible, I will share it with you guys !

I have finish it tonight. I will read it another time tomorrow, because I want a very good translation. My wife helped me a lot to do great sentences, so I think it will be great subtitles.
