What is your social life like?

Author
Time

It's pretty obvious that most of the people here are guys. I'm assuming that most of you here are in the introvert category and probably more on the nerdy/loner/bad with ladies side. I myself am getting quite fed up with the whole thing. It's been a really long time since I had a girlfriend. I go in spurts of trying to find one to not really giving a damn. It really pisses me off when I meet a girl that I think might like me but then I go and look them up at facebook and find out they're not single. By the way guys, for those of you who haven't thought of this yet, facebook is a great way to find out if girls are single or not. It saves you the embarrassment of having to ask them.

So I was just wondering what the social life is like for the people here including girls (if there are any) is like and what dates/dating is like for you?

what's a social life?

I cling to friends until I get annoying and then try again. It's one thing to be accepted and another to belong... usually I find myself the first.

I moved back to my home town a year and a half ago to take care of my sick dad (cancer, doin' better now). Couple that with an infant baby (now a 20 month baby) me or the Mrs. haven't had much of a social life. Which was a huge change, because we were social butterflies up in San Francisco where we had been. Things are slowly getting to be a bit more jolly for us. Reconnected with some old mates, actually went out to the pub just last week.

LIES. If a girl wants you to know she's got a fella, she tells you. If she doesn't, it means she's looking to trade up.

I love that he/you have a (?) grabby-trigger gun thing on the wall nearby. In case you drop the mouse.

LOL! I wonder if that's what Adywan will look like when he's done with all the films?

Gee, thanks for that; very charitable of you.

Personally, my social life is stretched pretty thin as I'm currently dividing my time between work, grad school, and spending time with my wife and infant son.

Before I was married I was a consummate ladies man AND managed to watch "Star Wars" all the time!

I was picking up a little bit of sarcasm there.

Not a bit.

I was a bad tipper, a bad dancer, and my penmanship was awful, but from 13 to meeting my bride-to-be, I never wanted for female companionship. And I've always been a huge 'geek.'

Before AOTC came out I made my then girlfriend watch all the SW movies with me in a row. I used to have my significant other pick me up from my D&D games. I once went clubbing dressed as Dr. Who and got laid that night. Every t-shirt I owned was nerd-themed, and it never got in my way.

There's nothing mutually exclusive about these dweeby things we love, and lovin' the ladies.

I agree, it's just a matter of finding the right ladies.

The stereotype of hopeless nrdz who can't ever get laid or whatever is kind of insulting, and also untrue.  I like The Big Bang Theory as much as anybody, but that kind of perception of smart/dweeby people doesn't mean a whole lot in reality.

I've gone through my "how I met my wife" story a few times over here, but you've got to keep in mind that there are ladies out there who are just as nerdy or have a soft spot for nerds.

I literally met my wife watching Star Wars and we haven't had much of a social life the last few weeks because we're spending all of our free time watching the entire 2004 Battlestar Galactica series. Again.

I have been out of the 'dating' game for many a long year now.

I met my squeeze on the internet, our mutual love of Doctor Who was the conversation opener.

I get out to see friends in Edinburgh every once and a while and I frequently meet up and chat to my lovely neighbours (the once that cooked roast dinners and dug out my better half over Christmas).

I wish I could see and speak more to my friends down south but it takes an age and costs a bomb to get there and most of them aren't on the internet because they are too scared of the technology or financial strapped to afford it so it's mostly the telephone with them.

There are lots of interesting places to go and see around here, when the weather and my energy levels permit.

My social life is piss poor, but that is because I just moved. I keep connected with old friends, and occasionally get visits.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Why is it embarrassing to ask a girl if she has a fella?

'Cause she might know that you like her.

But asking a girl if she has a fella is a perfect way to test waters. Possible answers include:

"Yes" Not good.

"Yeah, but I'm hoping to cheat on him soon." Good

"No." Good.

"No." ::: bats eyelashes::: Very Good.

"Nope, because I love being single! Woohoo!" Not great.

"Why are you asking!? Are you some kinda creep!?!" This rarely happens.
