If my memory is correct, I recall a couple of versions of this being posted on the Newsgroups no more than a couple of years ago so you might have some luck there.

I've never used newsgroups, but it looks like I may have to finally figure it out, using some free trial or something.  I'd really like to get this for comparison.  I just wish it could be upped to MySpleen 'cause I guess I'm afraid to try something new :)

I have the VCD of Episode I downloading slowly from MySpleen, but sadly it is going extremely slow, likely to take years to complete at the rates I'm getting.  If anyone still has that from when YouToo first upped it, would you mind seeding please? *bats eyelashes*

I did get the lousy VCD bootleg of Episode I. It sucks. Oh well. I'm fine with what I do have. However, I am still very interested in obtaining Episode II. I've ventured into new territory for me by trying out a Newsgroup. Unfortunately, it appears that I'm unable to download either Episode II bootleg, I guess because they're so old...or maybe because I'm such a greenie at this sort of thing. Might someone let me know of an alternative or somehow enlighten my poor brain?

FYI, I'm working on a personal project of deleted and changed material. I'm making it with my Star Wars nerd siblings in mind (not as nerdy as I, but appreciative of my nerdiness). But I'm hoping to ultimately share it on the 'Spleen.

Does anyone actually still have non rotten copies or versions still readable on their PC?  Weren't there minor changes to Clones and Sith? but the only version from the DVD up till now of Phantom  Menace is the extended video cut created for the DVD and now blu ray with extra dvnr.

I do have the Phantom menace laserdisc and it has burnt in Japanese subs and is letterbox and non anamorphic.  Also Stuck in SD.  Not Blu ray quality, not even DVD quality. But it is the only official version of the theatrical i own except for the widescreen VHS tape. I don't have the first issue pan and scan the quality of that transfer was horrible.

Could you guys upload either the widescreen VHS transfer and/or the LD transfer to e.g. myspleen ?

The only problem I have with the TPM LD is that it appears to be cropped like the DVD although it is the Theatrical presentation.  I believe ALL the home video versions of it are.  The only one's that aren't are the 35mm film source and the Bluray (thought it contains the DVNR as well).

Too bad the Bluray couldn't be edited properly to reflect the Theatrical release...without the extended scenes....it would make a great version and could have the original DTS audio to enhance the experience.

I don't have very good hardware for capturing.  I do, however, have the widescreen VHS for Episode I.  I can try to capture that in the near future if anyone is interested.  I think it is cropped like the DVD, but again, if you're really interested.

I should note that I really enjoy Adywan's reconstruction, but I was surprised to learn about that change no one caught till Feng Zei (sp?).  Indeed, immediately after Queen Amidala begins her journey back to Naboo, we see a night exterior shot with a river on the right.  In the DVD and later, there's a bridge over the river.  But not in the theatrical!  I'll try to get a screencap soon.

EDIT: I should note that I've finally gotten ahold of the Episode II bootleg.  I'll probably put it up on MySpleen soon.  It was weird because I've had some trouble with newsgroups (which I've been using with some success on trial runs).  While I was able to download other edits and such, I couldn't seem to get this one to work.  I had to use UseNetStorm.com, which allows you to download files less than 200 mb at a time with a 24 hour cap on your IP address at 400 mb.  Since most of the files for the bootleg were 101 mb, I had to do it one at a time and stop with only three files downloaded.  I bounced around town downloading pieces at various free wifi points.  Big pain in the butt, but I've got it now.

The promised screenshots. Sorry for the external links; I can't add pictures right now. I'll edit this later and fix it.

DVD (note the bridge on the right)

Original (note the lack of a bridge on the right)

D_E, would you mind posting some screenshots of the Episode II bootleg you picked up?  I'd like to see if it's better or worse that what I've run across.

Here's a link that compares various theatrical bootlegs of the Star Wars films.  It has numerous shots from every version it mentions

http://fd.noneinc.com/Theater_Performance/index.html

I got the Centropy version of Episode II.

Sorry not to provide you with my own screenshots, but I'm away from my computer with my copy of the bootleg on it, but they should be the same.

BTW SKot, check your PMs, since you're not getting notification of them :)

I'm getting rid of a bunch of stuff in my house.  One thing I don't think I need any longer is my theatrical widescreen TPM VHS.  It's a collector's set with a couple of nice additions, so it ought to go for more than 50 cents.  But before I get rid of it, it occurs to me that there are folks who like every possible preservation effort possible.  Adywan has done a very high quality theatrical TPM, though it is slightly imperfect as it lacks the bridge.  Althor has done the Japanese laserdisc.  There really are two good preservations out there.  However, if anyone really wanted, should I do a VHS capture and preservation, or should I just go ahead and get rid of it?  If not, I'm certainly not offended.  Just speak up quickly if you do.

Is that the one in the over sized box with the very small book/magazine of art and the film cells?

@jerlgrain, yes.

@Frink, no, but it was signed by twooffour ;)

I have a low quality AVI file (DivX) of "Attack of the clones", the famous first bootleg, maybe TS or very good camrip, and I think, the only cinema bootleg. I had the same as VCD in better quality with German dubbing, splitted into two CD-Rs, but I lost it, I just have the avi file now, with original English sound.

Lately I've developed an interest in the AOTC theatrical version.  Anyone have an idea of how to get this?

I'm not sure. I just checked my VHS (a duplicate of a pan-and-scan rental copy that I made in 2002), and it has the DVD changes. You might be stuck with an old crappy cam version if you're really set on seeing the theatrical version.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that this was my first pirated movie, done when I was only 9 years old!

Very old post hah, but a 35mm AOTC project has finally started.

It’s funny reading the old posts in this thread. You have people saying that no one cares about the prequels or the minor changes made to the DVDs and now you have people paying hundreds of dollars to acquire and scan 35mm prints. It’s wild how the perception of these movies in this community has changed.
