In response to the recent rumors: Luke turning to the dark side is the worst thing that could possibly happen. It would ruin everything that's happened so far.

Agreed. Tempting Luke with the dark side is in keeping with the original plot, but actually turning him for any period of time would ruin everything. SW fans will depart cinemas in their thousands if Disney should ever tamper with this aspect of the plot.

You must be kidding right? These are not spoilers. They are part of a discussion about what we do not want to see in Episode 7.  They can only be spoilers if they ARE actually in Episode 7. Do you have a crystal ball?

Alright, large "rumour" tags. Maybe people don't think the rumours have any truth in them and it's true that they're largely speculation, but some people would like to be warned about it before reading. The guy who wrote the article about that rumour, which is a huge spoiler if it has truth in it, warned his readers. I don't think it would do any harm to do the same.

EDIT: As for my crystal ball, "Always in motion is the future", so I caught the end of the credits for Episode VII. :(

/Film, which has previously reported on almost every other leak of Episode 7 material, decided not to report this particular potential spoiler because it was so huge. If on the off chance it is in the movie, knowing it would be like spoiling 'I am your father'. For the record, I don't think this has much chance of being real, but it's the principle of the matter.

Your imagination is running away from you. I was not encouraging the rumour mill. I was merely stating my opinion that I would not like to see that happen to Luke in Episode 7, regardless of whether it is a rumour or not. With any luck someone from Disney may read these posts and say "Okay, so it looks like the fans are not happy with that, so we won't ever try changing Luke's character away from that in the OT". Hardly a plot spoiler. LOL!

An opinion is not a plot spoiler. Get real!

Consider this hypothetical:

The following article appears in a tabloid article: "Joe Blogs claims he is a good friend of a script writer for the upcoming Star Wars movie. Joe informs us that in Episode 7 Luke will ride a talking unicorn that can spit fire."

Fact: This is a rumour, NOT a plot spoiler.

Reply from fan to article in tabloid journal: "I would not like to see Luke ride a talking unicorn that spits fire in Episode 7 because it would spoil everything".

The statement made by the fan is an opinion, NOT a plot spoiler.

Someone wrote the following on a forum two weeks after the official release of Raiders of the Lost Ark: "Indiana Jones finds the lost Ark of the Convenant and is chased by Nazis. The Nazis all die when they open the Ark, but Indiana and his friends survive because they do not look at the light."

This is a plot spoiler.

Please understand the difference.

There is a difference between a rumor and an opinion.  A rumor is a possible spoiler with some basis in heresay.  An opinion is something entirely different.  A rumor that is a potential spoiler is essentially a spoiler -- in my opinion.

You guys think that we'll see someone who unlike Luke does fall to the dark-side?

I hope not. That was done in the PT and who knows how many times in the EU. It's time for something new that doesn't involve sith and people falling to the dark side.

Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert! You just expressed an opinion about a plot sequence saying you hope it is not like the rumour, and that is a spoiler (apparently). Ooooh wah, I'm telling on you. :-)

What a storm in a teacup. Rumours occur all the time about upcoming movie releases. Who knows, maybe they will kill off Luke in the final scene, which would be fun to see, but somehow I don't think they would do that as that would be pretty stupid for the franchise as a whole. In my experience none of the pre-release rumours about movies ever amount to much in the way of fact. Once the movie comes out everybody forgets all about the earlier unsubstantiated rumours. A rumour cannot be a plot spoiler unless it is true and goes into all of the detail, for example if a scriptwriter or member of the cast spills the beans... in which case I'm betting the director would quickly change that part of the plot. The only other time a rumour can be true is if the plot is likely to be so predictable that everybody knows what's going to happen anyway, e.g. in Home Alone 567 some kid will get left behind by his parents somewhere, will draw the attention of criminals, who will then try to catch him but he will devise various traps to foil them. Columbo will always solve the murder and the first witness he speaks to will generally be the killer. etc. etc. etc. These are not plot spoilers. They are predictable elements lacking in detail. A rumour can only go so far. It seldom goes into any details, so we do not know the circumstances, reasons, or outcomes. Opinions based on rumours are NOT plot spoilers if the movie has not been released.

If they kill Luke off in a lame way it will be as bad as the book the EU originally intended to do the same by Traviss.  Was vetoed so they killed off his wife instead.  Nothing would prevent me from returning to see the sequels more than Luke going dark or being killed.

If Luke's a lame creepy hermit with no wife or girlfriend, has no children i will also be less than thrilled .  He would have been turned into a prequel jedi.

I don't want to see lightsabers used the way that they were used against droids in the prequels. When an army with blasters comes at you, you use a blaster.

Have you seen Star Wars?  Do the words "clumsy" or "random" mean anything to you?

That was according to the guy who said that Vader betrayed and murdered Anakin, and Luke didn't seem very clumsy and random when he was shooting Stormtroopers on the Death Star.

All-in-all, I think it depends on who we look at. If it's the Stormtroopers and Jabba's henchmen, then yeah often times blasters appear clumsy and random. But if we look at everyone else, they're pretty decent if not great shots - Han especially. Therefore, we can't necessarily fault the blasters.

Now let's look at Obi-Wan. Only once have we seen him use a blaster, and how many times did he have to shoot Grievous? Several, all at point-blank-range and inconsistent... lack of confidence and skill if you ask me. Before that, I wouldn't doubt it if the last time he held onto a blaster was when he was a Youngling and shot his right foot's big toe off. Of course Obi-Wan will have all sorts of unfair bias against blasters XD

Related and back on topic: something I do not want to see in VII (or for that matter, in any more SW) are bad guys or anyone who are terrible shots, ESPECIALLY if they should have had the training and experience.

And while I'm at it, no more Imperials always saying "Freeze" when instead they should have taken their shot.

Absolutely this. It happens all the time in movies, and takes me out of the action. If someone is shooting at you, you do not think "hey, I may want to get behind cover at some point in the next several seconds". No, you duck and run instinctively like any person interested in self-preservation! Rebels ep. 2 had a particularly egregious example of this, and to a lesser extent the Star Wars detention block shootout is guilty as well.

Because Star Wars is all about realistic portrayals of gunplay and tactics.

Which reminds me, I don't want to see the above in the next films, despite being a huge gun nut and fan of all that tactical stuff.

I hope this is the last film with Hammil, Ford, and Carrie Fisher. The series should have diverged from the main storyline eons ago, with such a vast and diverse palette from planets to races in the SW mythos- the fact we're still on them is disappointing.
