My proposal re: Disney Star Wars

So, Disney bought Star Wars/Lucasfilm.  It makes logical sense, especially from a George Lucas point of view.  Someone has to take care of the baby when Papa is gone.

And now they have announced they will be making episodes 7-8-9.

My proposal is this:

Disney, just remake them all.  You might as well.  4-5-6 (SW, ESB, ROTJ)...starring young new actors and chock full of new CGI.  Then do 7-8-9 starring those same new actors, older and wiser now.  And THEN...go back and remake episodes 1-2-3 with yet another batch of new actors while you're at it.  Do it better this time.

And why not?

P.S. - oh, and release the unaltered Original Trilogy in high definition as a historic artifact.  And the Holiday Special, come to think of it.

Lights Out! (lost TV anthology shows) [ONGOING]
Iznogoud (1995 animated series) English audio preservation [ONGOING]

A total OT re-make was the first thing that crossed my mind......

4 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 2

If they did that I think they should do them in order.  Treat episodes 4 and 5 as near perfect and keep them largely untouched, treat episode 6 as not bad but try to work in some more improvements and end in a way that leaves it open to a good strong sequel trilogy so we don't have a completely seperate story just tagged on after RotJ.  But strip the prequels right down and keep a few of the better pieces, but rework the stories a lot.  This way we could have the same actors play characters right the way through, have them age as they go, avoid the current contradictions in the existing storylines, and who knows, maybe even if we don't end up with a new episode 5 that is better than the original, we would almost certainly end up with a better 6 films overall, and hopefully a really good 9 films by the end of it all.

So Disney will be able to make Indiana Jones films too?

Honestly, I'd prefer this.  It'd leave the originals and their stories alone, and the OT wouldn't be sandwiched between two newer, "fresher"-looking trilogies.

It'd be nice if they could return it to some of GL's original conceptions.

-Luke and Leia as true twins looking much alike.

-Ben with a more prominent role and maybe a clone.

-Palps as responsible for both generations.

-Artoo with more mobility and the droids are more prominent in 5 and 6.

Maybe "Faster and more intense." would be possible. Disney specializes in 90 minute features.

I'm hoping for a Howard the Duck reboot myself. That is more important than Star Wars remakes.

I don't see why in the hell they are making remakes of films that they can't do better. And I'm 100% sure they couldn't pull off better versions of the OT so there's no reason IMO.

its very odd reading board members putting forward suggestions that are far worse than anything old George could ever imagine, is this what Star Wars has come too? I sincerely hope Disney has no plans to remake any of the movies, not even the bad ones.

but after hearing George 's announcement, I wouldn't be surprised if a Boba Fett spin-off movie is being thrown around as an idea, I really hope they don't, but I wouldn't put it past them.

I think apart from the direct sequels (I might just live long enough to see Episode 25.) this is exactly what we'll see. They turn every inch of that franchise into money. Maybe they produce some good things along the way, who knows.

Think of it this way: could Disney possibly do any worse than the prequels?

When you look at it like that, the only way to go from there is up.

Star Wars  has become the modern day equivalent of a Shakespearean play.  It will be continually told and retold, long after the creator is gone.  The stories will be reinterpreted, redirected, recast, and remade many times over.  This is already happening with Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, superhero backstories, etc.

I just wish they'd wait for the graves to get cold sometimes before they dig them up again...!

It will happen.  It is inevitable.

It is also inevitable that the Original Trilogy will be remade someday.  Maybe in our lifetime, maybe not.  But it too will happen.

I actually really like SKots idea, and I have expressed similar thoughts in the past.

I'd much rather have the old films left the hell alone, disconnected from all the fluff. And hey, if that were the case, I'd probably be able to get behind and maybe even enjoy some of that fluff. I would have much rather had a whole new Star Wars series back in 1999, than having the new one that was made pull the old ones down with it.

Kind of like how you have all these 2003 Battlestar Galactica fans who watch the old series and feel it is boring and unwatchable. More power to them. It is cool you can have old fans and new fans and they are all happy and get what they want. The thing that suck about the prequels was rather than old fans/new fans living separately but harmoniously, you ended up with burnt old fans pissed off because they weren't allowed to have the movies they liked in any quality standards beyond that of 1993.

This is actually really exciting. I have a hard time imagining Disney not eventual releasing the originals remastered on Blu-ray. This is the best news in anything Star Wars related in a very, very long time. As much as I hate to see a company like Disney gobbling up every other little entertainment company in its sights, this is one company I am glad to see them buyout.

Thanks George, I kind of love you again.
