MARK HAMILL ON BBC TV- ASK ASPEL SHOW- MAY 1980-AUDIO RECORDING ON YOUTUBE.

My good friend Robin H. recently let me and the STAR WARS AFICIONADO MAGAZINE know of an audio recording he did of Mark Hamill talking to BBC TV presenter Michael Aspel for the children's TV clip request show ASK ASPEL-which was transmitted on EMPIRE DAY- May 20th 1980-Hamill, Ford, Fisher and the main cast were in London that week to promote the film and attend it's Royal Premiere.

Robin has very kindly put his terrific audio recording in three segments on YOUTUBE, accompanied with lots of picture/visual content, and you'll really enjoy it-Mark is as fun and spontaneous as ever during the time of the making of the Classic Trilogy, and there's the first mention I think, at least on UK TV, of REVENGE OF THE JEDI!!! It's also a nice piece of classic 80's UK TV nostalgia.

Excellent find!

It doesn't seem to far-fetched to think that someone in the community has an actual video recording of this.  Babyhum, perhaps?  Or anyone else?

EDIT: I found someone does have the video of it here, but it's on a defunct format where the player is apparently rarer than the actual show they recorded.  Good to find out as well here that the BBC does have this show in their archives, so there's hope that it could find release someday (if they ever get around to it).  Not always the case with the BBC, whose infamous non-forward-thinking policies in the early days caused many shows to be lost forever as they were wiped or recorded over after broadcast.

Projects:
Return Of The Ewok and Other Short Films (with OCPmovie) [COMPLETED]
Preserving the…cringe…Star Wars Holiday Special [COMPLETED]
The Star Wars TV Commercials Project [DORMANT]
Felix the Cat 1919-1930 early film shorts preservation [ONGOING]
Lights Out! (lost TV anthology shows) [ONGOING]
Iznogoud (1995 animated series) English audio preservation [ONGOING]

It's possibly a toss-up between Ask Aspel and Blue Peter when the first (UK at least) mention of Revenge Of The Jedi was made.

I have a very vivid memory not only of the show in general but this one in particular (even though I was only 10 years old).

It was one of the reasons why I was vocal about suggesting the title be restored last week was remembering three very formative years where the title was one of the few things I knew about the next episode after such a cliff hanger.

Most viewers won't remember the feeling of watching ESB and having to wait three years to find out what happened next or just how important it could be to someone of that age.

Hi, The BBC does have this in it's archives.

I recently found out that contributors for programmes can apply for and purchase DVDs of shows they contributed too. As I was one of the kids who wrote in asking a question of Mark I was able to buy a DVD of the show for £108... it is worth every penny!

The show was recorded and aired on the 20th of May 1980 "Empire" Day and Mark talks about "Revenge of the Jedi."

I remember watching Blue Peter and have no recollection of Revenge of the Jedi being mentioned. Also, if I remember correctly, Ask Aspel was shown first. But it was 34 years ago....

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to copy, share or even lend it out!

I failed to notice this was a nearly five year bump, and briefly got excited because I thought C3PX was back....of course, it should have occurred to me that it would be CP3S if he was really back, but...
