You, sir, are deadite to me now.
I’m with ya. The theatrical ending is the best part of the movie…
No way. 😉
I think the double-Ash scene is probably the best part IMO, but I can’t be sure with out rethinking it a little.
…and would have been a great jumping point for another film.
How is it better in that regard? The original ending is a perfect place to continue with another installment from. He’s in post-apocalyptic future (late 21st century I guess), and the writers can take it from there.

I don’t know if I’d call it the best part but it certainly didn’t bother me, I kind of expected it and I had no problem with it. A very good movie from start to finish.
I can respect this opinion. It is a very good film from start to finish (since you’re no doubt talking about the U.S. theatrical cut, I don’t have a direct point of reference since I haven’t watched it yet; only the original cut).
Anyway, I just feel that the theatrical ending doesn’t add up. Not only does it not keep the tone of the first two films, it doesn’t even keep the tone of the film itself. The film is a goofy fantasy-adventure comedy, but that ending is just plain corny. The only thing I give it credit for is that “Hail to the king, baby,” is a funny line, but even then, I don’t want it to end the Evil Dead trilogy.
The original ending keeps the tone both of the film itself and of the series as a whole. I’m sure there’s a reason that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have said that they prefer the original cut, despite Sam Raimi admitting that he has a fondness for a couple of the re-shoot/re-dub lines (like “Good, bad, I’m the guy with the gun,”).
It’s nice to see conflicting opinions about this kind of stuff. Just seeing how other people think and react about something.
