I watched the first 30 minutes of The Wrestler…didn’t this thing win a bunch of awards? Does it get better or is the whole movie just a bunch of wrestling?

Naturally my wife made fun of me, asking what I expected from a movie called The Wrestler.

The Usual Suspects (1995) – ★★★★

Just fantastic.

Agreed. I watched it for the first time a year ago, and I’m so grateful that I didn’t have the twist spoiled for me.

He soon suffers a heart attack which forces him to retire from wrestling. Hijinks ensue.

The Nice Guys (2016) ★★

Was not impressed nor entertained very much.

I also saw this for the first time a month ago. I was quite shocked by who directed it.

I’m still waiting for the hijinks but yeah it has gotten somewhat better. Still not sure how it’s award worthy yet.

I hate spoilers/knowing too much about a movie before I see it (to the point of never watching trailers, still haven’t seen a single Rogue One one) and unfortunately I think I’ve had this film spoiled for me, but…

SPOILER WARNING

Is knowing there’s a traitor/rat in the group a movie breaking spoiler? Just hoping maybe I haven’t been spoiled as much as I thought I might have been…

Knowing that there is one isn’t much of a spoiler at all. It’s pretty much the plot of the movie. The only thing that’ll hinder your experience is knowing who it is.

Oh fantastic! Thanks, I know nothing else about the film other than that fact so I’m alright! That’s a big relief haha 😃

Naturally my wife made fun of me, asking what I expected from a movie called The Wrestler.

To which I trust you replied more, younger scantily-clad, sweaty beauxhunks toiling and grinding on the floor together, with great grunting exertions and turgid protuberances, preferably resembling a certain Top Gun star and his dashing sidekicks.

Turgid, you say.

I watched the rest. It was ok, certainly better once he stopped wrestling, but overall I just didn’t get the acclaim. Oh look, tough guy has a soft side. Oh look, stripper wants to go back to school and has a heart of gold.

Eh.

When I first watched Mean Girls at the start of this summer, I thought it was way better than it had any right to be. I was rather surprised.

Mean Girls - 5/10

We had to watch this in health class.

It couldn’t be worse than having to watch Blue Crush. Even in my dumb teenage years, I knew that movie was shite.

I had to watch this in jr. high health class. The teacher yelled at us for laughing when a horribly fake life-size doll got hit by a car. “A kid just died!” he exclaimed, “This is incredibly serious, how dare you laugh!”
