Wow that petition is dumb.

It’s a good thing, then, that on-line petitions are next to useless.

Definitely, but the idea of starting a petition for that reason is just stupid.

Maybe if it bombs we’ll be spared of a Suicide Squad cinematic universe.

EDIT: As for that Raiders shot, I really can’t tell any difference between any of the shots other than the light, which I hadn’t even noticed as being different until now. I don’t get why they changed it since it looks better without it, but again, I wouldn’t say it’s worth streaming or downloading a 25 gb file for it.

They were “fixing” a supposed continuity error, because other shots in the scene establish that the light is on. And that shot in particular has stood out to me since I was little, so seeing it with a previously nonexistent light in the middle that looks like they used a soft eraser in Photoshop to make, it’s a little jarring.

but again, I wouldn’t say it’s worth streaming or downloading a 25 gb file for it.

Well, that’s not the only reason there is. There are other alterations that are actually a little nit-picky, and the altered color timing ruins it for a lot of people.

For me, personally, I would’ve gotten the 35mm release even if the BD was untouched. There isn’t anything changed in the Jurassic Park BD and I got that release too. I love 35mm film prints. I just do. Raiders is one of my favorite films, and I have every right to not watch a shoddy Blu-ray release. The legality issue should be no different here than in any other case of an HD film project on this site. I mean seriously, people download 20 GB files just to see the exact same BD with different color timing (this is also me for some films).

Just because you don’t notice and/or care about the problems in a video release, that shouldn’t stop me from caring about the film. When I care enough about a film, I want to make available the best/most enjoyable experience watching it. For me, I’ve found this usually in 35mm print scans.

I have no doubt that downloads of almost every project chronicled on this site are illegal. I don’t say that to be judgmental, I just don’t believe for one second that any edits, preservations, or uploads would be protected under fair use, realistically speaking.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Ugh, so disappointing. There were some good parts, but overall it was meh to annoying. Way too much action, especially because it was all shaky-cam and confusing closeup choreography. Idris Elba was completely wasted in this film, unfortunately. And it was too long. One of those movies where I kept hoping it would get better but it never really did.

5.9/10

I saw this earlier in the week. I didn’t have high hopes, and i wasn’t dispointed. It was enjoyable to watch, but i don’t see a whole lot appeal in watching it again (anytime soon). Everything about the villain just doesn’t make sense. And the outpost is ‘sci-fi pretty’, but makes no sense. why would you build all of your living quarters around the most dangerous part: the launch/docking tubes where space ships (which usually suffer catastrophic failures in ST films) are coming and going? The city planner should be sacked. I prefer my Star Trek to be the more ‘cerebral sci-fi’, enough so that it isn’t always entertaining. meh, i always preferred the various TV series over the movies anyway (over ANY of the movies)

Those kind of space stations have been around in SciFi paintings since at least the 50’s. I think it was a homage. But let’s be honest, a warp core breach is going to be bad no matter where you park your starship. 😉

I honestly didn’t notice any shaky cam, which is weird, as I’m usually easily made ill by it, even more when it’s migraine season.

Whatever explanation for the villain was, it must have gone by pretty fast as I didn’t catch it. Can’t go deeper into any plot holes without spoilers.

I did appreciate all the tie-ins to the era of the Enterprise tv series though. Pity we’ll probably never get to see the Earth/Romulan war on any screen.

The only time a Trek movie was cerebral was in 1979.

Very strange.

I thought the battle on the saucer section was a little too dark, but I don’t know if the auditorium I was in was also doing 3D screenings earlier in the day. I’ve heard this is an issue with some films.

BTW, is D-Box worth the extra money? First time I’ve been in a theater that had it, but I was sitting in the regular seats for fear it might make me queasy or something.

I thought the earlier two films were much worse with the shaky cam.

I honestly don’t remember because it doesn’t bother me that much. I don’t think I’ll pick a fight with her over it, however.

Hah, yeah. the first thought i had when the ship was entering the docking bay was ‘what if they have to eject the warp core?’ I did think it a very pretty space station…

Just saw Suicide Squad, so these are my thoughts.

The first 30 minutes were grueling, to the point where I considered walking out of the theater. It was just boooring. The introduction of all the characters is incredibly sloppy, it’s just Amanda Waller giving exposition to some military assholes at a fancy restaurant. It’s akin to not having Man of Steel, and opening Batman v Superman with someone telling another character his story. “Clark Kent was born on a farm…”

The only saving grace of the first 30 minutes was the music. They opened the movie up with House of the Rising Sun, which I quite enjoyed. I will say the movie has an amazing soundtrack with songs like Sympathy for the Devil, Seven Nation Army, and Super Freak.

The editing was very strange, and very hard to describe. It’s very fast and jumpy, and I wasn’t a fan of it.

The performances were a mixed bag. Jai Courtney was surprisingly good, he played a very funny character, a far cry from his bland performance in Die Hard. Will Smith was absolutely great and likeable, as always, almost unbelievably so for a hitman. El Diablo was amazing, a very sympathetic but believable character. I’m definitely in the minority on this, but I wasn’t a fan of Harley Quinn, I think her performance felt very forced and like she was trying too hard. Rick Flag had the charisma of a wet brick and his southern accent sounded fake as hell, and the plot really hinges around him and his relationship to someone else, so it just didn’t work. Enchantress was straight up awful. Her performance was incredibly exaggerated, she was walking around with her hips gyrating (fuck you Ayer, no matter now attractive you make her it doesn’t make her performance good), moving her arms and head all around like some cartoon character. I’m not one to be offended on other peoples’ behalf, but at points I was embarrassed by Killer Croc. I felt that his character was vaguely racist. He only has a few lines in the movie, but they’re all barely understandable and in ebonics. There’s one point where he says “I’s wasn’t aksin’ you, bruh.” and I actually groaned.

This was an issue with the TOS movie/TNG era starbases, and actually did come up in the first season of TNG. The solution was, lay in a course, set the auto navigation, and get the ship out of spacedock really really fast. 😉
Star Trek IV certainly showed the problems of having all your starships inside with only one big ass door that’s closed when the power goes out.

The orbital facility seen in the 2009 film makes more sense I suppose.

The Bourne Identity (2002)

Enjoyed it quite a bit. Characters were interesting, acting was good and the story was solid. The action scenes were relatively well shot but the sound design in them was unprofessional. The climax was good but I felt that the whole film was leading up to something, and it never really delivered, but overall the film was very good and I can’t wait to watch the second one.

Then that means Margot did a good job because that’s what the character is in general.
