These positive reviews from people I generally like are disappointing.

I don’t want to pay to see it, but I’m starting to want to see it, just in case I’m wrong about it sucking. I really doubt it, but 8/10 is high freaking praise.

Just wait until it’s out on video.

It wasn’t perfect but it was a lot of fun.

Ghostbusters (2016)

I think when they’re a little older, my daughters will LOVE this.

That’s the kind of thing I’ve been hoping to hear from people.
I know it’s not for me, and I really couldn’t care any less about that. What I’m hoping it is, is a movie for the future generation so to speak.
The things I already don’t like about it are my problem (read: no problem).
My nickname (online and IRL) is Ray. Inspired by Dan Akroyd in the original Ghostbusters, I started going by that and refusing to answer to anything else, when I was 4 (1985). It stuck. Many people I’ve known for years have no idea what my real name is, or even that Ray isn’t my real name.
That’s all fairly unrelated, but your friend here has been drinking. Your welcome.

Ghostbusters (2016)

My biggest fear, based on the trailers, was that there would be a ton of gross-out humor. Luckily it was all in the trailers. The humor was mostly spot-on, the cast was solid, the cameos were fun, the sfx was fine, and Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth stole the show.

My wife agreed with all of the above, but also said it was great to see women talking like actual women, not wearing sexy outfits, not going undercover as strippers, not being catty, and not being ditzy.

I think when they’re a little older, my daughters will LOVE this.

8/10

I’m pretty surprised it’s getting all of these good reviews. The first trailer looked awful and the second trailer spoiled all of the potential twists and turns story-wise. I’ll check it out once it’s on Blu-Ray.

I think my issue with it is that women deserve a better movie than Ghostbusters looks.

But hey, if people like it, people like it. Even if it spits on the rest of the franchise. *shrug*

For sure. I just can’t even imagine that from the awful trailers. I mean, the “front fart” joke? Jesus.

I’m reading a lot of negative reviews too, and I’ve heard from friends and family that it’s really bad. That’s what confuses me about the mixed reviews. Maybe that’s just my circle, but they’re fairly diverse when it comes to movies. They’ve given me a lot of specific examples of what they don’t like and it sounds like something I’m not interested in. Everyone seems to think that McKinnon is the best part though, and is funny.

That’s not good. I doubt this is the film that’ll do well in foreign markets.

Is that opening day or a projection for the whole weekend?

Interesting review! Many surprisingly are enjoying this. I’ll make sure to check it out 😃

Looks like it’s the total of all days as of July 15th.

I think it opened on July 15th. I’m hearing that it’s having relatively good box office projections, but given its budget and Sony’s (somewhat unrealistic to begin with) plans of this becoming a giant franchise, it isn’t quite what they had hoped.

Shit, did it?

Huh, I guess it did. That’s not too bad for opening day earnings, but the rate at which it makes money is only gonna get slower, so maybe it’s not so good. Only time will tell.

For a movie with an approximately 150 million dollar budget (not counting oversees marketing), it won’t be a huge moneymaker, especially since it isn’t a film with much of an oversees market compared to others. The Communist Party of China has also denied the film entrance, which hurts a lot financially. I’m sure they’ll sell out and re-edit the film for the Chinese market, though, like that horrible Red Dawn remake. They won’t lose money on it, but if they want it to be a franchise like Marvel (I don’t even understand why they ever thought that would be the case) then their projected budget isn’t promising.

It’s the cool thing to do now: Mobilize your nerdy franchises in the hopes you can build an Avengers-esque universe by throwing movies at the wall in the hopes they’ll stick while doing as little original work as possible (bonus points if it’s an 80s franchise).

And the franchise already sucks without this remake. The 1984 Ghostbusters is the only thing with the title that’s slightly watchable*.

Excuse me? Both animated series were great, the video game basically was Ghostbusters 3 and pretty dang good. And I’m just starting into the IDW ongoing comic series but so far it’s been really good too.

Ghostbusters has never (to the general public) been more than one standalone movie. Ghostbusters 2 and the cartoon are not enduring, beloved classics. It’d be like expecting to make an American Graffiti cinematic universe.

What on Earth did China object to in the film?

I bet it’s because Melissa McCarthy has publicly stated that she thinks the United States should’ve used nuclear weapons on China during the Korean War.
