I decided to pass just based on their opinion of MoS. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Zootopia

A fine family film, other than a clunky exposition-dump intro, the generic pop song, and a frustratingly stupid scene at the start of the third act.

I give this review an A, especially when compared to thejediknighthusezni’s review of the same movie.

By that standard, every review of the movie ever gets an A.

Any movie that introduces you into an unusual world usually has some exposition to get though. 😉

What scene did you think was stupid?

The one where Judy gives the speech about predator biology, even though she should have known that everyone would panic given that she was there when the mayor said that it would cause everyone to panic. That and she rejected her parents racism towards predators earlier in the film (I’m calling it racism because the film isn’t subtle about it).

Like most people when first being confronted by the unblinking glare of the media, she choked, and babbled incoherently. (I’d daresay one character was counting on her to do just that.) And she was still carrying fox repellent around, (as Nick pointed out) so she might have been clinging to old fears, if only subconsciously.

It didn’t seem like she was babbling incoherently, it felt (to me, anyway) like she was just somewhat nervously saying what she already planned to say anyway. She knew what she exactly was talking about, but somehow didn’t realize that what she was saying was wrong, despite disagreeing with that viewpoint just days earlier.

Seeing those citizens who had turned feral, one doing so moments after speaking with them, may have shaken her beliefs more than she wanted to admit.

Contagion 8/10

This movie made me feel sick. The editing was great, the score was suspenseful, the acting was impressive, and the atmosphere was perfect, well done Steven Soderbergh! My only issue is that I wish it focused more on Matt Damon’s character rather than jumping around constantly. Check it out if you’re in that sort of mood.

Marnie (1964) 6/10
Not the best of Alfred Hitchcock’s work, but the acting was solid. The safe heist was interesting, the rest was meh. I did enjoy seeing Connery in something other then a Bond film from that era. In fact he played Bond rather well in this. This is definitely how I think the character of Bond should have been played if Eon Productions would have been allowed to film “The Spy Who Loved Me” novel as written, or even if Connery played 007 in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”.

Ghostbusters (1984) - 8/10

A true classic. Memorable characters and great performances, with good (but somewhat dated) effects. Certainly holds up.

Not enough people read the EU.

Watched Elysium and Attack of the Clones. Elysium was good, Attack of the Clones was eh…nowhere near as bad as I remembered it.

Elysium (2013) - 7/10

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) - 5/10

The prequels are more lame than terrible in my opinion.

Ghostbusters (2016)

My biggest fear, based on the trailers, was that there would be a ton of gross-out humor. Luckily it was all in the trailers. The humor was mostly spot-on, the cast was solid, the cameos were fun, the sfx was fine, and Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth stole the show.

My wife agreed with all of the above, but also said it was great to see women talking like actual women, not wearing sexy outfits, not going undercover as strippers, not being catty, and not being ditzy.

I think when they’re a little older, my daughters will LOVE this.

I just watched Gigli, or at least a little bit of it. I’d give 5 stars!

One of my relatives saw Ghostbusters. She said she couldn’t stand it but also that Kate McKinnon was really good.
