Man, this week I have watched so many films (compared to usual). Thank god for school holidays!
The Revenant: B+
I really enjoyed it, probably the best film I saw that came out last year. The acting was all great, as was the cinematography and direction, which was astounding. The only problems I have with it are that a couple of plotlines were left unresolved by the end of the film, and various parts seemed like the director was trying too hard.
Kill Bill Vol 1: A+
This is probably my favourite film of all time, tied with Pulp Fiction, also directed by Tarantino. The style is just so rich, and the characters are really good. Soundtrack is stellar too.
Chappie: D
Thoughts listed above.
GoldenEye: B
The first Bond film I have seen, not counting half of Dr No, and I liked it much more than I thought I would. Bond was such a suave and soothing character, whom I always rooted for. Villain was also very good. Sadly, a lot of the characters felt underdeveloped and disposable, which brings the film down.
Tomorrow Never Dies: C-
Sadly, my second adventure with Bond proved to be a lackluster experience, with an awfully convoluted story, and a terrible villain with horrendous motivations. I did like Bond’s endless quips though, but they don’t save the film.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: C
Scott Pilgrim vs The World: A-
I watched this film a while back when I was eight, and really liked it, and I was afraid that on further viewing it would be disappointing, but that was not the case. I pretty much loved every minute, the characters are charming, the direction is astounding, and the style is just fantastic. Really sad that this bombed at the box office.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: B-
Probably my favourite of the Mission: Impossible series, with great stunts and likable characters, but unfortunately the film is let down by a convoluted story and a pathetic villain. It’s definitely watchable, but far from perfect.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: C+
I really liked Caesar, and the rest of the apes for that matter, but the human characters were all extremely clichéd and boring, particularly James Franco as the lead (can’t even remember his name). Pretty much every scene with just apes is perfect, but everything else falls short.
