Hahahaha, I feel so old. I’ve been listening to Depeche Mode since I discovered them in high school…in 1988.

I haven’t been on the bandwagon that long, but since at least the late 90s. I feel old but slightly less so.

You should look into Nu Wave and Synthpop, Haseo. That’s the good stuff.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

I’ve heard of Synthpop but Nu Wave is something I haven’t heard of until now. I’m going to have an early day at work today so I outta use that free time to let another genre of music consume my soul.

Do it up. The 80s were fantastic for it, but there’s a lot of really good modern stuff too (mostly from Germany).

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Do you have any bands you would like to recommend to me?

And One would be a decent jumping-off point for modern German synthpop. They’re a German band, but have a lot of Depeche Mode influences, too.

I’d also suggest Beborn Beton, De/Vision, and especially Wolfsheim and Covenant.

Thing is you can easily swerve into Gothy Industrial stuff rooting around in there more than keeping with the more “pure” 80s-inspired stuff. Lemme know what you think of those suggestions!

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

I’ll check them out some time. Right now I’m running through Gary Numan’s discography

Love Gary Numan. You’d also probably like The Cars, Pet Shop Boys, Thomas Dolby, ABC, Spandau Ballet, The Human League, A Flock of Seagulls, Naked Eyes, The Buggles, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, Bronski Beat… argh there are so many great synthy bands.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Yeah but is it the best in general? Considering it. Definitely up there.

I’m in a similar position, except it was a little later than 1988 when I was in high school 😉

I’d put What’s Going On in my top 15 favorite albums.
