The point of a genre is to group pieces of music that shares a certain characteristic. If you don’t like that specific characteristic, then the genre just isn’t for you.

That’s quite the over simplification when bands like Beherit and Iron Maiden have different styles of riffing, different types of production, different subject matters, vocal style etc. When talking about a genre like Metal you can’t lump music like that into one group because there are subgenres in subgenres and even bands who are in the same genre like Autopsy and Behemoth sound nothing alike.

I’ve heard enough to know I don’t like it, and there’s tons of other music I want to spend my limited time on.

You’re acting like the guy who won’t get off my front porch because I haven’t accepted his religious pamphlet yet.

I doubt it but if you want to be closed minded then do it. Just hop off my dick.

EDIT:

Also before anyone accuses me of anything starting anything I didn’t even bring up Frink being appalled by Dawn of Posession’s album cover but his likely reaction to such a thing was brought up by another for a reason…

But LH is right about over simplifying genres. I really hate classifying music by genre because it’s all so different. I can say “I mostly listen to rock n’ roll music” and 10 different people could think I listen to 10 different types of music, none of them being what I like.

Jesus dude, you’re the one “on my dick” for not liking metal.

WHY DON’T YOU LIKE HOT DOGS THEY’RE ALL MADE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENTLY AND YOU HAVEN’T TRIED ENOUGH DIFFERENT KINDS TO KNOW IF YOU LIKE THEM AND IT ALSO REALLY MAKES MY LIFE WORSE THAT YOU WON’T EAT THEM!!!

Seeing as how Mala’s thought process is slowly becoming one with yours let me make this…again…even though I just said the shit.

I don’t care that you don’t like Metal; I don’t like how you give opinions and take jabs at me even though you are unwilling to listen to enough to form an opinion you lumped a lot of the music into one group.

Music is probably the most subjective medium. I get where you’re coming from Haseo because I feel the same way about movies (I can watch every genre and don’t get people who can’t). But with music, I just can’t do it.

I have a lot of friends that are into metal and death metal. I have nothing against it, in fact I tried to get into it. Didn’t work. Honestly very annoying to listen to. There’s some basic metal I don’t mind, but it’s just not my thing.

I just don’t really care about music that much. If I’m going to listen to new stuff, I’ll do it in a genre I like.

Yes it’s a simplification but for some genres it can be applied. For very broad genres like metal, it may not hold, but then it applies to its subgenres. In fact, I don’t like different metal subgenres for different reasons, but ultimately, I wouldn’t say I like any subgenre, so it’s not wrong to say that I don’t like metal.

I’m just making fun of the band names and album art you post, which are generally beyond silly regardless of the quality of the music.

Album art 1/10 - if you don’t put your band name and/or album name on the art, and you aren’t Spinal Tap, it automatically sucks.

JEDIT:

I guess this is fanart but so be it.

I could have sworn we had a couple of spats about the quality of the music or the maturity levels of those who listen to Metal but the bulk of it was just teasing and I have no problem with that and I even deem it appropriate in a few circumstances.

Well apparently Frost*, who last released an album (the one above) in 2008, came out with a new album in May. I’m so behind on new music…

That moment when you’re like, hey wait, a band I thought was dead apparently put out an album in May after six years away, and it’s really good.

Old age, farts of dust, and the soft wafting of mothballs that fills the room when he takes of his woolknit 3 button sweater.
