I apologize if I sighed loud enough to bother anyone.

Another SW film written by Lawrence Kasdan? Check w/ his son.

Two directors associated with fun, creative movies? Check.

Still a little worried about a young Han Solo, but at least the writing/directing crew seems solid to me.

Umm, but why announce this before SDCC?  I guess they want to keep it strictly TFA focused then.

I really need to tone down my excitement level since we haven't seen any of these new SW films just yet.  I'm just such a nerd.

That will be the hardest thing to do right. I can't imagine anyone replacing Ford.

Btw why is there a hyphen in-between Han and Solo in the title?

Yeah, I'm quite pleased with the creative team if not the subject matter. Miller and Lord are a brilliant duo and I love Solo but I really don't want to see another actor in live action take on the role. If this were an animated feature that'd be another matter....

Yep, agreed. Or at least ridiculously skeptical. Given that it's already greenlit, if they can actually make it work, then great.

So, Disney's makin' a movie about a young gunslingin' drug smuggler?
Yeah, right.
There's zero chance the young Han I've always envisioned (and SW alluded to) will be the character in this film.

How I Met Your Smuggler.  It'll be wacky fun, centered on how Chewie and Han meet.  Chewie's always having unintelligible arguments with Itchy, Malla, and Lumpy.  Han rolls his eyes.  There'll be a laugh track.

I'm also of many mixed feelings on this.

I don't really want to see somebody else tackle the role, and agree that many of the scruffy elements of Han's world that we know of i.e. smuggling, slavers, crooked dealers, the Hutts, running on the edge of the law, completely interfering in governments and murders would all be chucked out.

So I'm thinking we're really not going to see much Corporate Sector Authority action. Perhaps some bits of stuff like came out in the Bantam HS trilogy that directly reference the OT and blatant "how a young character gets to be his famous older counterpart" schtick.

...

But as long as they have Han say things like "Stang!" we're headed in the right direction. ;)

 It's a joke. Get it?

.

You know, I thought we were all done with the naive assumption that just because Disney is distributing these movies that they'll be scrubbed clean. Let's not forget that they already had a franchise that revolved around pirates, and the main one was literally (and blatantly) drunk in every scene. I have no doubt that this film will have the edge it needs.

The big question, as captainsolo brings up, is how much of the old EU will they actually acknowledge? They ditched everything, of course, but they said they still might take inspiration from old stories. So who knows if they use any Daley or Crispin material.

The bigger question is, is this movie really necessary? Well, no, but why not make it? Han's a great character, and, even though we're all pretty used to HF playing him, I'm sure there's another actor out there who can take him on. But mainly, I'm glad these spin-off films are staying as far away from jedi as possible. It's a big galaxy out there, let's see what a scoundrel can do with his own movie.

By the way, I think we can probably expect this film to have a good sense of humor, considering the directors' track record. Which is a good thing. I always though Han was the funniest SW character. Don't want them to forget that.

You see, because it is a lone film rather than part of a trilogy, DominicCobb was making a little play on words.  My question is why is there a hyphen in between in-between, when that is supposed to only be present when acting as a noun or adjective, not as a preposition as you have used it?

We've had Young Indy, so I don't have a problem with a younger Han Solo. Between sequels, the Brian Daley books were once the only game in town besides the Marvel comic, which itself concentrated on Han and Chewie for a while.

Disney is going to get it's money's worth out of the new Millennium Falcon sets, that's for sure.

Lets hope that TFA turns out a good movie so it can set a starting point for all this SW-Disney stand alone films, I expect some consistency across the board  at the very least.

Eh. Regardless of if we want it to happen, it's happening. Better to hope it's good than hopelessly wish it doesn't happen. That being said, who would you have play Solo?

Someone who doesn't look anything like Harrison Ford and is totally incapable/unwilling of playing the character the same way Ford did.

I think Shia LaBoeuf would be perfect for the role.

It'd be hard to beat Kenner/Hasbro for simply recycling the same basic 1978 mold for 30 years.

But look it has new stickers!

So far i have zero interest in any of these upcoming Anthology movies.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Didn't Kennedy say that the spin-off (anthology) movies WON'T feature any of the main characters from the episodic movies....?  Looks like she had second thoughts about that.

I'm not interested in seeing anyone play Han Solo whose last name isn't Ford and whose first name isn't Harrison.

Brian Daley's novels are the only stories that are ever needed to portray Han Solo before the first movie.

Besides, Disney has yet to prove they are capable of making one good SW film, let alone several.  Count me as largely uninterested.

I'm very skeptical. I fear that whoever they get to play Han Solo will make no attempt to capture Harrison Ford's mannerism, et. al. In fact, that's why I wasn't thrilled with Chris Pine's James T. Kirk. Pine made his own character and that's fine, but to me it just wasn't Captain Kirk.

I think a good example of how to do this right is the recent Back to the Future adventure game. Michael J. Fox wasn't available so they got a damn good soundalike, and it worked quite well. It wasn't 100%, but it felt like a pretty organic continuation. If there's going to be a Han Solo film, that's the way I hope they go. :)
