^ I agree.
Jabba is great (except that his mouth flapping up n’ down doesn’t match the sounds he’s making), but there are a lot of half-assed rubber masks that are too close to the camera and stupid, unbelievable designs like the blue elephant.

Of all the goofy aliens in Jabba’s palace, you pick on Max Rebo? I’ll take Max any day over the fat frog they added for the special edtion, who appears to be sitting on a crapper. 😉

Part of the problem is not that the masks were “half assed”. They were probably never meant to be seen in closeup. They are no better or worse than what was in the cantina scene.

Live action creature FX were never ILM’s forte before Jedi, and the creature shop seems to have faded away not too long after.

Not to mention the hairy bug with molars and a ugula.

Man I cannot believe what people pay for photo ops at cons anymore. I wouldn’t pay that unless they get Joonas Suotamo to dress up in the Chewbacca costume. That I would pay for.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I don’t watch the SE. And the blue elephant clearly stands out as looking fake and silly.

Yeah, they’d look ok from a distance. That’s why I said they’re too close to the camera.
There really aren’t many shots/creatures in the bar in Star Wars that don’t work for me. The obvious budget restraints have already put the viewer in a different mindset before we get to the bar scene and the low lights, distance, ect that the creatures are shot at make most of em work. With RotJ, it’s clear that the budget has gone waay up compared to SW, yet there are many more shots/creatures that look very cheap and lazy in comparison.

Awesome! Where the hell did you manage that?

Damn…did you ask him anything about TLJ?

Obviously. He told me who Rey’s parents were and everything.

Seriously though, I told him I wouldn’t ask him anything about it (he said good because he has snipers trained on his head at all times), but I did have to ask him what it’s like working with John Williams, which he basically said was incredible.

Super cool guy, he really is a genuine fan and seems very excited about it. Called working on TLJ the best experience of his life.

I think you’re confusing his species with Hooter from Captain Eo. Both are blueish, and play a mean keyboard, so it’s understandable. 😉

What’s really interesting is Kenner totally screwed up, thinking Max had a lower torso behind the keyboard, and that design has stuck ever since.

That thing looks much better than the blue elephant in Jabba’s band!

As do I. Who knew the Max Rebo maquette had a butt crack? They didn’t show that in the old documentaries! 😉

Even though that is old news, Kenner’s version is still better than those butt-hands.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

This Max Rebo stuff has blown my mind. I wonder if new canon will have him in his true form.

Still, you’d think Kenner would have learned something from the Blue Snaggletooth incident. 😉

I would have carefully worked in the “Singular or plural” question but I’m sure he relished that.

Called working on TLJ the best experience of his life.

I can imagine so but I can also imagine how hard it must have been writing a follow up that was worthy of the Saga. That unyielding pressure must have caused him to lose a few nights of sleep.

I wish the music on Jabba’s yacht wasn’t “lost”. I really dig it. It matches the sounds the bar band in SW was playing, but it’s different enough to sound like a different band playing the same genre. Lapti Nek also works as “SW universe music” for me, even if it’s much more disco than the other “in world” music we hear.

I’m sure the master tape will turn up in the basement of Skywalker Ranch someday. It’s probably in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Wampa. 😉

Wait this wasn’t on the soundtrack they released? What the hell. All these versions online are Frankenstein attempts. Boo.

If the prequels get remade, I want fan-film remakes as if they were old cliffhanger adventure serials George based SW on. Grainy, black and white, old-school effects, etc. They, of course, would have very little to do with the real PT, other than character names and maybe location names.

The prequels will not be remade.

Well obviously, that’s their display department. It’s sitting right next to the discarded bits of the original Star Wars O-neg and a paint sample from the Death Star walls.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

So for the Hell of it, I tried listening to Star Wars’s mono track off a low quality bluetooth mono speaker I have.

I must say it improves the experience of the low quality mono. You don’t really notice that the radio static in the final fight is missing when everything sounds like you’re listening to it over a walkie talkie.

The best source we have for the mono is a 16mm print. A 35mm would sound even better if one ever turns up. The mix itself is not of low quality. Ben Burtt and company spent more time on it than the stereo and 70mm even.

I must’ve been misinformed. What I’ve heard regarding the mono recreation was that Academy mono as a standard was not of the highest quality.

Still, it sounds like what we have regarding the mono is better than what we have for the 70 mm (six track, if I recall?) audio, as all I know about what we have for that is someone’s in theatre recording of it, and a recreation based on the '93 laserdisc as a starting point.
