So I heard a parent relay this great fan theory from their kid.
The reason Luke was hesitant to accept the Lightsaber from Rey is because it’s actually the first step in her Jedi training. “How do you properly give someone a lightsaber? Clearly not with the blade end pointing right at them.”
Can’t be true, Kylo had Jedi training and he didn’t know how to properly hand over a lightsaber, either.
If you watch closely, Kylo Ren’s way of holding the lightsaber is fairly close to how Obi-Wan handed Luke Anakin’s Sabre, though not to the side of Han. The problem was that in the name of cool and an appeal to history, he made a weapon that the conventional means of handling a lightsaber didn’t apply to. Had he went with a modern design, the tragedy we saw might not have ever happened.
