I've come to see Palpatine as a complete nihilist who believes that that the dark side is an all-consuming chaos which will eventually destroy everything in existence. In that context, I have no problem with Palpatine using such a term.

Of course, I don't recognize Palpatine as a Sith, either, so ...

I saw him more as an egotist. Who saw everything as corruptible and prone to chaos and corrupted it to impose his idea of order. I would see Palpatine as calling the Dark Side of the Force by the same name he called himself.

Have you guys seen this funny Star Wars list? Well, it's not all Star Wars (it's all Harrison Ford), but there's a lot of Stars Wars mentions. The part about Wookie intolerance is cool but it should have mentioned the lack of a medal for Chewie during the end of New Hope.

Hm. Yeah, I don't know that Palpatine wants to destroy everything specifically. He wants to rule it all with darkness, but I don't know that he wants to cease to exist.

No. I see Palpatine as someone who is so afraid of annihilation that he is willing to do the one thing he believes can save him from it -- embracing the dark side so fully that he eventually merges with the dark side itself, preserving himself through it. Everything else in existence -- the Jedi, the Sith, the Empire, the Rebellion,  etc. -- are either tools to be used in his quest for ascension or obstacles to removed from his path.

That's easy to explain -- PT/TCW Anakin and OT Vader exist in different universes. ;-)

Challenge: name all the friendships Anakin and Obi Wan had with other characters in the Prequels that were actually better than the alleged "friendship" between the two characters themselves.

Well, I think Anakin was using his Jedi mind tricks on Padme. It explains how they got married after he killed women and children.

But Jedi mind tricks only work on the weak-minded ...
