I can’t believe Han isn’t dead after all!
That announcement trailer was pretty cool, loved how long and detailed it was!

Without spoilers, does anyone know where they are with shooting on Ep. VIII?
Were Carrie’s scenes already shot?
I wonder how they are going to deal with this. It will require MASSIVE quantities of DELICATE sensitivity.
And it BETTER have a “Dedicated to the Memory of” card!

You mean unlike your post?
Too soon, people.
Where were you in '77?
Oh, ffs… It’s not too soon to wonder how this will be handled in the films.
My sympathies are with anyone here who knew Carrie personally and just lost a friend, but there’s nothing insensitive about wondering how this will be handled in the film series that we know her from.
…and you better believe that people at LFL have been positively scrambling to devise workarounds and contingency plans ever since her health issue first arose last week.
Life goes on, through and after tragedies. How people will have to work to move through this one, while preserving and honoring Carrie’s legacy, is what is newsworthy, and a fascinating realm of speculation, here.
This is definitely worth discussing – the OP was not saying anything in poor taste. I know principal photography had finished, but I’m sure they’re going to go back for insert shots here soon.

Well, frankly I found the “wild savages” comment to be insensitive to Indigenous Americans.
(Okay jokes aside…)

Thank you for your responsive and informative post!
Good to know her performances were shot and preserved!
Fine, but please keep it civil. I mean it.

I was thinking about this earlier. It’s funny, I feel like CGI characters can come off really well, but thinking about applying the same technology for Episode VIII just felt wrong to me.

Rogue One’s CGI [SPOILER] …
Oh, groan, are you serious? That type of stuff is exactly why I don’t watch movies any more…
I have faith that the people making the sequels will honor Carrie, and find a way to deal with Leia’s absence.

Go see the movie before you judge.

Ah shit. Yeah. Sorry about that. I didn’t realize what thread I was in. If you wouldn’t mind editing that out of your post hopefully we can preserve it for others. In the defense of the movie it’s really great and works really well in my opinion.
JEDIT: Wook too, I suppose. <_<

1.) This thread is meant to avoid Ep. VIII spoilers particularly, rather than Episogue One, avoiding spoilers for which has pretty much become the proverbial herding cats at this point;
2.) As far as spoilers of Episogue One go, that one was actually USEFUL for those who haven’t seen it yet, since it was a clue as to how horrible it evidently is; and
3.) S’wook need not edit, as long as we issue a disclaimer that SPOILERS ARE BURIED IN THE EXPANSION QUOTES HEREIN.
The movie is set mere days before the original film. Who’s in it is like the worst kept secret at this point. You might as well avert your eyes when looking at the poster too. 😉

Still, I hate spoilers so I feel bad.
Moving on!

I agree. I’m sure they’ll treat the part with dignity and reverence.
Hopefully it’s a bit better than a couple of pictures on a desk.

So she needs guidance and teaching, not real training. Pretty much aligned with what is seen in the Original Hexalogy (and CW/TCW/Rebels).
She needs that too. Until she can do shit like lift an X-Wing with the Force she needs training. Hell, her even beating Kylo Ren in completely neutral circumstances may be enough.
I won’t link to the slashfilm article I got the news from as even the photo of the camera has what some could consider to be a spoiler, but Imax’s twitter confirmed today that some of Episode VIII was indeed shot in their format.
Just thought I would share the news here in case anyone was wondering (I certainly was).
Now to see if I’ll actually be able to watch it both full-sized and in 2D as shot or if Disney is going to unnecessarily force the 3D version on the two of the Smithsonian’s three theaters that have already converted to the laser system. I certainly don’t see them paying to send a 15/70 print here when the only remaining Imax film theater is right across the National Mall from one of the lasers.
Interesting. This wouldn’t be surprising if Johnson hadn’t already said he wouldn’t shoot anything in the format. Wonder what changed.

Funny, I never heard about him saying that. Was it before principle photography started in earnest? It may very well have been a last minute decision.
