Dark Side Droid ?
Dark Side Droid ?
The Empire painted their droids that way too. Which begs the question is the company that makes them supplying both sides?
Where were you in '77?
I’m surprised no one has discussed this yet. Maybe I just missed it.

Wasn’t there a black droid they made a big deal out of during RO’s marketing campaign that never showed up in the actual film?

Maybe the First Order just make their own “bootleg” droids?

I’m so ready for Force Friday!
nvm
The designs are pretty disappointing. Though they brand them as “evolution’s”, they really come off as quite lazy. I just wish they had the boldness to actually do something different from the classic star wars ships. Take risks people. That is why the new rebel ships seen on Crait actually really excite me! They look unique and unlike anything I have seen in Star Wars so far.

Looks like a B-2 bomber to me. Does not look like a Star Wars stardestroyer. Even the J-type diplomatic barge looks better.
“LUKE… I’M SEEING HIM.
HE’S COMMANDING THE IMPERIAL FORCES… LIKE OUR FATHER!
I FEAR WE LOST HIM, HAN… I FEAR WE LOST EVERYTHING.”

The people making these movies are not visionaries. Their only concern is to package you something you are familiar with and sell it to you in a nice corporate fashion. I bet they even have that manufactured new car smell.
I’m all so underwhelmed by all these designs. Not a single one impresses – or at least intrigues – me.
Hey y’all, 'member The Empire Strikes Back?
But yeah, underwhelmed is a good word for it. My brain automatically comes up with rationalizations like ‘I’m sure the callbacks are merely visual, while the story boldly subverts audience expectations’. Please be right, brain.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Don’t you mean a Northrop XB-35 flying wing?
Or a YB-49?
Or a Horten Ho 229 for that matter?

I find that Supremacy to be a refreshing break from the typical arrowhead design of star destoyers.

I agree, I quite like the Supremacy.
It’s certainly a step up from Stuffed Crust Dreadnought.

The Supremacy’s design is something I never thought would be in a Star Wars film…I like it.
I wonder how that thing handles in comparison to other huge ships.
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the sequel trilogy will end up being nothing but a rehash of the OT, imitating the visual elements and story which is a great shame. I wanted new stories to be told, to have new experiences, make new discovries about the Force, instead Disney has chosen to play it safe and retell the same story we’ve seen lots of times before. I still can’t believe TFA has received so much praise as it’s nothing but a remake of the first SW movie. Say what you will about the prequels, but at least Lucas tried to do something different.

Visually sure but we’ll have to see how much plot mirroring there is. After Rian’s response on the similarities between Empire and The Last Jedi I’m betting there will only be a few, but no where close to the amount of rehashing TFA had.
make new discovries about the Force
I’m just going to assume you haven’t read this:
“In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past. Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in U.S. theaters on December 15, 2017.”
Spotted at a TOYS’R’US:
I hope their reveal is handled similarly to ESB. The Republic recon guy is looking through the binoculars and sees a giant foot hit the ground.
Pan out, and it’s an AT-ST.
Then a giant foot hits the ground in front of the AT-ST.
Pan out, and it’s an AT-AT.
A giant claw hand thing hits the ground in front of the AT-AT…

goood…the new designs you want will probably be awful…i hope we never get away from the OT aesthetic

different does not mean great
TFA had real characters…while return of the jedi and the PT had nothing but meaningless drivel and no story
TFA had real characters
lol

Here’s an idea…you can do new things that are still true to the original.
Possibilities?
I would like to see movies like choice #1. The third option is basically the original movies.
#2 and #4 are the worst. The prequels were visionary, but their vision sucked. The Disney movies have taken something beloved and co-opted it for soulless, corporate profit. Total lack of imagination. No vision. Frankenstein’s monster of plot contrivances where every little producer and executive gets their pet idea into the picture. Sell more toys. Sell more video games. You get the idea.
