Why would they go with 3D? I thought this lame gimmick dying down.

What happened to shooting on 35mm?

3D movies were shot on film in the 50's and 80's you know. ;)

And these might be a viable solution to keep everyone happy?

My personal problem with it being in 3d isn't a lack of 2D options in general, it is the potential for affecting premium showings. I want to see a 7 film marathon opening day. Sadly, chances are that those marathons only include what they feel is the best version- ultimately, probably giving us eps 1, 2, and maybe 3 in 3d, 4-6 in 2d, with 7 in 3d...

Do you really want to see Jedi Rocks in 3D? O_O

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I consider myself high on the purist/curmudgeon scale. I also resist getting my hopes up about anything. But this trailer makes me very hopeful. I'm not letting go of my skepticism, not after what happened in '99, but I'm not going to read anything and everything into a teaser trailer.I'd implore others to resist that urge also, for their own potential enjoyment.

As for 3D...I don't get the hype. I've seen a couple of movies in 3D some number of years ago. I don't feel as if it works well for me. Maybe I'll give Guardians of the Galaxy a shot in 3D this weekend to get another feel for it.

I definitely wasn't complaining about the OT not being in 3D, but rather the high probability that any marathon screenings will be stuffed with 3d wherever possible.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan

J.J. is in our heads, man! ;)

And anybody else notice Han is apparently sporting a leather jacket?

If this attitude carries over into the ST (i.e. no references to anything PT-specific, midichlorians, gungans, clonetroopers, etc.) I will be even more (delightfully) stunned. And I will find myself holding on to hope for something I've hoped for since the Disney acquisition was first announced in 2012 - a remake of the Prequel trilogy.

Why would you ever hope for that? There's no story to tell in the prequels. That's the major reason they were awful, it was all just backstory.

Trailer was good. First half was excellent. Second half was visually strong, but short on story. Would have liked shots with the new characters speaking/shouting included. Feels a bit sterile from their point of view.

I just realized the "We're home" line is in reference to the Millennium Falcon.  Did everybody else catch that, or am I just very slow?

Looks the ESB jacket through my old eyes. Apparently Han Solo has a closet full of them. Hope Luke doesn't were the prequel robes.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Caught it, but I also think its referring to the franchise getting back to the originals.

In the context of the trailer it is, but we don't know what they're referring to in terms of the film itself.  Not sure why they'd have been away from the Falcon long enough for a line like that.  Maybe it's in reference to Yavin or something.

Trailers should still frame the story for you without giving too much away.

So amazed by the trailer, I only just now realized Threepio isn't in it. ;)

We still have seven months to go. Less is more, unlike the trailer for the new Terminator flick. ;)

The original SW trailer also didn't tell us very much.

I enjoyed the trailer, but it hasn't made me any more excited for the movie. I'm still taking a cautious approach, in the hopes of being blown away when I actually see it. It differs from the OT in some minor ways that I would rather it didn't (a lot of suspiciously shiny looking things, for instance), but most of it looks great. Seeing as it's just a teaser trailer and we can't tell much about the final product from it, I will avoid passing judgement on whether or not it's on the right track.

The Empire is now The First Order

The Rebellion is now The Resistance

Seems like brand destruction and a dumb change to me.

I can see the Empire changing their name after the events of Return of the Jedi.

It would have made more sense for the Rebel Alliance to either remain the same or go to simply the Alliance.

Author

Well, I don't see why they would change their name. The Greeks in Turkey continued to call themselves The Roman Empire for 1,000 years after the fall of Rome. Even more, I'm surprised Disney would green-light that kind of change.

I realize Luke's dialogue is from ROTJ, but it was used in the teaser for a reason. Who do you think Luke was talking to in regards to the power of the force?  One of the younger leads or possibly Leia?

Saw the trailer and it looks promising. Already I can tell that there is some humanity, completely opposite from trailers in the prequels.
