Do you have a favourite stormtrooper? — Page 2

Any stormtroopers that talk.  In Star Wars they were SO awesomely cool.  The swagger that was carried in those voice overs was astounding.

But yeah, I'll go with the "Maybe it's another drill" guys.  Again, laid back, cool, just doing their jobs.  (None of the stormtroopers in Star Wars were ever mean.)

You mean besides murdering all those jawas, blowing up Luke's boyhood home, and burning the flesh off of a kindly old farmer and his wife? ;)

See, doesn't the EU make everything cooler!

You should go and correct Wookiepedia. They have it all wrong.

Dear God. I tried to out-ridiculous the EU and failed. Who would have guessed that "Look Sir, Droids" was in fact the only man in the Empire who noticed that AT-ATs could be tripped by cables, and his career was sandbagged because of it. And later he did become a spy for the Rebellion because he feels spiritual kinship with Han Solo.

I suppose you contributed the part of the article about the female ronto in heat?

You've seen TROOPS... you know the stormtroopers were just breaking up an illegal droid smuggling ring and responding to a domestic dispute which they were unable to contain ;)

I didn't say they weren't killers.  But I bet they were very business-like about it.  Makes them scarier, I think.

If I was tripping on acid I couldn't have imagined something like that. No, a well paid EU writer came up with that brilliance no doubt.

Yeah the one trooper when they're talking about the new BT-16, I like the one trooper's response, "Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about about it, they say it's...it's quite a thing to see."

Yeah that was a good. It made the stormtroopers more relateable than just canon fodder for rebels.

"You seen that new BT-16?"

"Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about it. They say its quite a thing to see."

"What was that?"

"Its nothing, top gassing, don't worry about it."

The original trilogy had some of the best background acting ever. Its what makes it the greatest movies ever made. Giving lines to Stormtroopers was a brilliant move.

but there's no stormtroopers on the second list.

My favorite is the stormtrooper who says "Just another drill" while Obi-Wan is deactivating the tractor beam. He just seemed like he didn't really do much of anything but stand there and chat.

Replayed it over and over and high volume and I don't hear it as outgassing. Still sounds like top gassing. Then I play it at low volume and your right. Its outgassing. Something to do with the exhaust port I bet.

Thanks for the pickup.

Your ears can deceive you, don't trust them.  What do the scripts say?  And don't the DVD's have optional subtitles?

Subtitles in the 2004 DVD say 'outgassing'.

Also in the subtitles it says "VT-16" not "BT-16".

Dear God. I tried to out-ridiculous the EU and failed. Who would have guessed that "Look Sir, Droids" was in fact the only man in the Empire who noticed that AT-ATs could be tripped by cables, and his career was sandbagged because of it.

This story has been widely misinterpreted by people who think that totalitarian militaries reward Western values like creativity. Felth wasn't the only person who knew of this vulnerability. It's pretty clear Veers knew, too--and probably everyone else--but he didn't want his vehicle commanders making up doctrine on the spot. The Empire would rather lose AT-ATs or suffer mission failures than push new training out across the force. And they'd rather not have free-thinkers in command of their vehicles, lest said free-thinkers break with the party lines in other ways. As Davin Felth eventually did.

I'm not sure how this is any more ridiculous than space wizards with laser swords, and a lot of it would ring true here, in the real world. Many militaries place doctrine above creative thinking, especially among the other ranks and junior officers. I myself saw a fairly important capability wasted in part because no one was taking advice from line personnel, and higher and supported commands were getting bad information about this capability. In a totalitarian dictatorship, I might have suffered Felth's fate.

Yeah Scruffy but the "Look Sir Droids" guy?

It ties in with the shrinking universe thread by making it sound like there are about 15 Stormtroopers policing the Empire and the rest are just cardboard cutouts pushed out to impress dignitaries.
