I know I'll be buying the Star Wars disc. And some of my friends who line up for the premiers on Hollywood Boulevard might have a mini-lineup for the release. They had one for the SE DVD release and it was pretty fun. So, yeah, I'm halfway excited.

I'm waiting for the reviews of the DVD. I'll be picking up Lego Star Wars II for sure though.

I second this! Actually, I haven't bought a single DVD release of any of the star wars films. The last versions the movies I bought was an OOT VHS boxed set almost exactly ten years ago and a SE set on VHS just after they were released. I was looking forward to finally getting my hands on the resources I need to edit together my own perfect version of the OT, but looking at the poor quality of the 2004 DVDs and the upcoming WS versions of the OOT, it looks like I'm going to have to bite my fingernails for another few years.

I'm counting down the days as well. Unfortunately, instead of being really excited about this release, I find myself being anxious about it. I'm worried that the DVDs are going to look horrible, and I'm going to want to cry after seeing them.

All I can say is - I'll be relieved if they're at least better looking than the laserdiscs.
The situation is pretty damned pathetic.

At the moment I don't have a widescreen TV or monitor hooked up, so I'm quite certain these DVDs are going to look far better than anything else I have in my hands right now. So I'm excited to be able to improve my Star Wars viewing experience when these new DVDs come out.

On the other hand, when I DO actually set up a widescreen TV and the new Star Wars discs appear in a little rectangular box in the center of my screen bordered by black or gray bars on every side, I'm going to grumble. As will the rest of the world who own widescreen TVs but didn't understand what anamorphic was, and couldn't see why a vocal minority seemed to be making such a fuss about a little thing like why these new DVDs weren't available in it.

My old set's on the large side for a tube model (40"), but it's not in the current widescreen standard.

I expect the DVDs to look the same as my laserdiscs ... which will be sufficient for me - - I just want the convenience of not dealing with the huge laserdiscs, and changing the discs (ugh, big pain) .... and mostly for what I even now hope will be a decent attempt at recreating the opening crawl, which would fill me the happiness conducive to a really enjoyable screening of Star Wars.

But until there's a high quality, anamorphic release of the O.T., I'm leaving the September releases of Empire and Jedi on the shelves. If they're not going to look any better than my laserdiscs, and not be any different in form than my laserdiscs .... I'm just gonna stick with the relative inconvenience of my laserdiscs.

I hold my hands up and admit I am tentatively looking to purchase Star Wars, in the first instance, just to see how it holds up on my system.

Just as well each film will be released individually so I don't have to commit to buying all three before dipping my toe in the water on the first one.

I also have the '04 dvds, but just can't watch. Dreadful digital tomfoolery aside I find
the over saturated colours, especially in the blue channel, particularly offensive to the eye.

"Wow R2 really does look blue there doesn't he?"

I am sure I will feel a little dirty when purchasing the September release of Star Wars on dvd, but unfortunately 'non-anamorphic' is the price I will have to pay at this time to be able to watch the original Star Wars sans digital trickery and dodgy color correction. I guess I can always ask at the counter for a plain brown paper bag to carry the dvd home in so none of you lot can mock me.

Welcome to the boards!

Yeah, I'm just waiting until the time comes to commit either way. Right now, I'm just kinda apathetic to the whole thing. But I bet when the time comes, it will be a big news day here, huh?

I may be in the minority here but I hope that they look like the film that I saw in the theater. I could care less what the sound quality is like. It couldn't be any worse than my worn out old VHS. I want the nostalga to live on. When Lucas tries to make things better he just screws up a good thing.

That's what I've always said, too. I don't think I want a restoration simply because it will be messed up. If it was only anamorphic, though!
