Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread — Page 6

Thrawn is cool, so that’s a plus. But you know, it’s kind of sad to me that, due to the passage of time and the way things worked out with Star Wars, we’ll never get to see the post-ROTJ adventures of the original OT cast in live-action. We’re following Mando and Ahsoka around the Galaxy during a time period where, theoretically, Han, Luke and Leia are off somewhere doing awesome things.

Also, the coolest thing about Thrawn was his military tactics and use of technology in innovative and unexpected ways. This brings to mind a development in modern Star Wars which is rarely discussed, but which I think has fundamentally altered the nature of the franchise: the main “cool factor” (meaning what fans generally find to be the coolest aspect of the franchise) changed at some point. In post-Prequels Star Wars, the main “cool factor” of the franchise shifted primarily to Jedi powers and lightsaber fights. But originally the main “cool factor” among fans was the space battles and the elements of military sci-fi. There hasn’t been a proper, multi-stage goal-oriented space battle since Rogue One (at least not in live-action).

Even in The Force Awakens, which was the most OT-inspired, retro incarnation of modern Star Wars ever, the protagonist achieves her first major victory via a lightsaber fight, instead of a space battle like in A New Hope and (arguably) Phantom Menace.

I just realised that Ray Stevenson’s saber and the hilt looks like Vader’s in this poster, it’s not just me right?

Y’know what I won’t link to a huge image, you know the SW 1977 poster I mean.

I have to say, having someone say the words “Heir to the Empire” is a little on the nose

It’s definitely not as cool as her next line, “I can sense a dark force rising, we have to stop Thrawn before he can issue the last command.”

“Remember, the Force will be with you. Always.”

My favorite was right after that when she enters the World Between Worlds and said, “Perhaps by looking at these specters of the past, we can receive a vision of the future.”

But even that line pales in comparison to what Hux’s dad says after Thrawn is defeated:

“It appears that your plan has failed, Pellaeon. We must move forward with Project Necromancer, in order to create… a Dark Empire.”

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

Very nice work from I_AmNoJedi.

Dave Filoni in a 4 minute interview with Collider from Celebration, confirming he wrote all the episodes, and that he directed at least two episodes. Episode lengths are similar to that of The Mandalorian, “maybe on average a little longer”:

Dave Filoni on Writing Ahsoka, Future Star Wars Series, and Rebels

He does say fans won’t have needed to have watched Rebels for Ahsoka, but if people were “really interested in it”, watch the “Jedi Knight” episode onwards, or to just watch Season 4 and “they would be set”.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Minor correction, the name of the episode is Jedi Night 😛

I_AmNoJedi on reddit made a watch/read list for people to get up to speed for the Ahsoka series! Hope this is helpful:

Oof, that is a rough list. It’s far too cut down in my opinion but it’ll get the job done for those that are absolutely rushed. And I’m honestly a little horrified that they’d recommend watching Practice Makes Perfect before the series. TOTJ should only be watched after one has seen the series proper. Also not a fan of giving one of the arcs a custom title that is very spoilerific.

A while back I created an essential Clone Wars watchlist for a friend who wanted to get his girlfriend into the show but didn’t want to get bogged down in the lighter episodes of the series. It turned out to be a huge success and I’ve continued to refine it, taking into account required viewing for later series like Mando and Bad Batch.

With so little time until AHSOKA begins airing it’s not the most expedient to get through before then. But I’d say it’s the more holistic route to appreciate the series as a whole and the connections that have sprouted from it to a lot of the current Star Wars storytelling.

So here’s my list for anyone that might be interested:

The episodes are listed in chronological order with one exception and are listed with a three digit code where the first digit is the season number and the following two are the episode number. While not essential I’ve also included the Genndy Clone Wars mini-series as a solid lead in to the era and a plug for some holes left open by the series that followed it. But it’s entirely optional.

Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars Volume 1 (listed on D+ as Clone Wars 2D Micro-series)
Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars Volume 2 up to 15:24
216 Cat and Mouse
116 Hidden Enemy
The Movie
301 Clone Cadets
105 Rookies
119 Storm Over Ryloth
120 Innocents of Ryloth
121 Liberty on Ryloth
122 Hostage Crisis
205 Landing at Point Rain
206 Weapons Factory
207 Legacy of Terror
208 Brain Invaders
212 The Mandalore Plot
213 Voyage of Temptation
214 Duchess of Mandalore
220 Death Trap
221 R2 Come Home
222 Lethal Trackdown
302 Arc Troopers
310 Heroes on Both Sides
312 Nightsisters
313 Monster
314 Witches of the Mist
315 Overlords
316 Altar of Mortis
317 Ghosts of Mortis
321 Padawan Lost
322 Wookiee Hunt
414 A Friend in Need
419 Massacre
420 Bounty
421 Brothers
422 Revenge
502 A War on Two Fronts
503 Front Runners
504 The Soft War
505 Tipping Points
506 The Gathering
501 Revival
514 Eminence
515 Shades of Reason
516 The Lawless
517 Sabotage
518 The Jedi Who Knew Too Much
519 To Catch a Jedi
520 The Wrong Jedi
601 The Unknown
602 Conspiracy
603 Fugitive
604 Orders
610 The Lost One
611 Voices
612 Destiny
613 Sacrifice
Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars Volume 2 starting from 15:25 or search Youtube for “Full Battle of Coruscant” (highly recommended)
709 Old Friends Not Forgotten
710 Phantom Apprentice
711 Shattered
712 Victory and Death
From here you can hop straight into REBELS and watch that all the way through and you’ll be 100% prepared for AHSOKA.

But if you had a good time making your way through this list and want to watch more. Here are some bonus arcs to consider:
The Malevolence Arc 102-104
The Citadel Arc 318-320
The Umbara Arc 407-410
The Zygerria Arc 411-413
The Deception Arc 415-418
The Clovis Arc 204, 605-607
The Bad Batch Arc 701-704

Ray Stevenson, Actor in ‘Punisher: War Zone,’ ‘RRR’ and ‘Thor’ Films, Dies at 58 - at Variety

'Ray Stevenson, the Irish actor who starred in films like “Punisher: War Zone,” “King Arthur,” the “Thor” films and shows like HBO’s “Rome” and the upcoming “Ahsoka” series,” died on Sunday in Italy, Variety has confirmed with his publicist. He was 58.

No cause of death was available.

Born in Northern Ireland on May 25, 1964, Stevenson began his career appearing on TV shows in the 1990s then began landing action roles in Hollywood films starting in the 2000s. His first major film role came in Antoine Fuqua’s 2004’s adventure movie “King Arthur,” where he played Dagonet, one of the Knights of the Round Table. In the film, his character sacrifices himself in battle to help Arthur (Clive Owen) and his brotherhood of warriors.’

and

‘In addition to “Ahsoka,” Stevenson’s posthumous credits will include the films “1242: Gateway to the West” and “Cassino in Ischia”’.

Poor guy, 58 is no age at all. RIP.

That sucks so much. Been a fan of his since he was Titus Pulo in Rome. It’ll be bittersweet seeing his performance in Ahsoka.

He was so full of energy on stage at star wars celebration. This is a huge shock. An amazing actor.

Is Ahsoka considered to be a Jedi now?

I know of the famous “I am no Jedi!” dialogue, but with the new Ahsoka series trailer having the text of “Warrior, Outcast, Rebel, Jedi” in it to describe Ahsoka, and The Mandalorian S2x05 episode having the title: “The Jedi” (about Ahsoka), has this now changed?

Are we meant to think of Ahsoka now being a Jedi once again?

Screenshots of the “Jedi” tagline used on the official Star Wars YouTube & Twitter sites to describe Ahsoka for the series

Edit: Star Wars: Why Ahsoka Is a Jedi Again, Explained - article at MoiveWeb

^ Dave Filoni: “Fans all focus very hard on the line, “I am no Jedi,” from Star Wars: Rebels, but it’s undeniable that she’s trained by the Jedi. I think to most observers she is very Jedi to them. I would argue in some ways—by being so selfless and rejecting a lot of paths that would have given her power — she’s more Jedi-like than even some characters who claim to be Jedi.”

Is Ahsoka Tano a Jedi or Not? Ashley Eckstein Answers - article at Inside The Magic. (Ashley’s answer to the question is “yes”).

In this official Ahsoka trailer, actress Rosario Dawson explains ‘all things Ahsoka in 30 seconds’, and describes the character of Ahsoka as being a “Jedi”:

https://twitter.com/ahsokaofficial/status/1690068060940517376

In this official Ahsoka trailer titled “Master and Apprentices”, it is inferred Ahsoka had previously been training Sabine (as a Jedi; in a master/pupil relationship, with Yoda voiceover referencing other Jedi master/pupils):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTqPkjk0GLU

And as others have said: Ahsoka still acts like a Jedi, lives the moral code of a Jedi, fights like a Jedi, chose to use “the weapon of a Jedi Knight”, and also chose to construct those white lightsabers herself, long after her decision to leave the Jedi Order.

Her voice is also heard in the future ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’, along with many other Jedi spirits, calling to, and supporting Rey.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Not according to The Mandalorian S2. Which means… something. Maybe the best ever Jedi is the one that doesn’t want that stuff. I can see Filoni taking that angle with his precious.

She’s not a Jedi.

Clone Wars Spoilers

She left the Order and renounced her status as a Jedi at the end of Season 5 of the Clone Wars.

That hasn’t changed and it’s why she has white blades. That Mandalorian episode title is written from the perspective of Din, he went in expecting to find a Jedi but instead he found Ahsoka. Same for the audience going into that episode.

The text in the trailer can be looked at in two ways. First, it can be seen as lazy marketing. Or second, they’re descriptors of things she’s been throughout her life. For example, the war is already over so she’s no longer a Rebel either.

So no, she’s not a Jedi.

Well, at least not yet anyway. There is that final line from Huyang in the trailer and her voice is featured in TROS. So perhaps she will become one again but if she does I expect to see that represented by the color of her lightsabers as well.

I don’t like Disney Star Wars, but i will admit the trailer was enjoyable. It was light and fun. I almost smiled. I applaud Mr Filoni’s efforts to make something young people will enjoy. I know my niece is going to love this series.

I would say less that it’s lazy and more so just targeting the general audience. To the GA, lightsaber + force = jedi (or evil jedi).

But man, this trailer has a vibe about it that just perfectly captures the tone of the video games and old EU of the 90s and I am totally here for it. Fingers crossed it doesn’t drop the ball like Boba/Obi-wan/MandoS3 did.

I’m still not really interested, but I will say two shots in this trailer did look really fun to me, those being the closeup of Sabine’s face on the speederbike with the E-Wing(?) soaring in the background, and the similar shot with the little astromech droid. It was simple stuff, yes. Very simple. But the expansive backdrop of Lothal and exhilaration of the chase, or whatever is happening, looked fun. That’s all I really have to say.

Move along, move along.
