Just finished watching Harmy. Great. Will post minor quibbles in the other thread, but this is the most enjoyable this movie has been since I saw it in the theater.

You guys are misusing the word anamorphic - anamorphic 1080p would be 1440x1080 (with black bars in case of 2.35:1 movies), which would then be stretched to 16:9 for viewing.
I was totally going to call them out on that but you beat me to it Harmy.
EDIT: Crap! Now yoda-sama mentioned it while I was typing. I’m just slow.

I noticed a bit of an anomaly (it may have been in the original version and I just didn’t notice it) at 00:02:58 to 00:03:06 you can see white Storm Troopers(?) walking across the Death Star (I assume they’re building it). There is a light box around them until they stop walking at 00:03:06. I don’t recall if this was in the original version or not and if so I just didn’t notice it before. I realize it’s a little late to be pointing this out so I’m going to assume it’s supposed to be there.

If it’s what I’m thinking it is, that’s a matte line. It was in the original, removed from the Special Editions (because it was unintentional but largely unavoidable in the original), and restored for the Despecialized Edition.

I never really took much notice before of the Jabba relief/mural on his sail barge at 00:32:12. Interesting detail.
I watched this today and all I have to say is amazing work Harmy!

Sorry haha, I just kept thinking back to anamorphic DVDs, it was the only word I could think of
I use MPC-HC with MadVR too but I use Lanczos 4 taps with anti-ringing filter and debanding. Is NNEDI3 a lot better?
I don’t know if it’s A LOT better, but if your machine can handle it, you may as well use it. I couldn’t see any differences in RotJ 2.5 between Lanczos 4, and Lanczos 4+NNEDI3, but other sources will give you better output
You can see some better examples here: https://wiki.mikejung.biz/MadVR_Chroma_Upscaling_720p_Image_Quality
Thanks for everything you’ve done, Harmy. Even if you never decided to touch these films again I would be happy with the amazing work you have put into this project. Well done, sir.
Harmy’s ROTJ has been written about on The Verge http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/9/10947938/return-of-the-jedi-despecialized-edition-download
What do you guys think?
It doesn’t say Despecialized because quite frankly I want to ignore that the SEs exist, and it could be used for the Grindhouse or SSEs.
It’s cool. But it also doesn’t acknowledge the great work Harmy has done. The official ones (and others that people have done) have tried to put Harmy’s name or logo on them somewhere.

Actually it’s a matte box and the shot is unchanged from the BD, where it was in turn unchanged from the original version (as evidenced by the presence of matte boxes).
But I’ve never actually noticed those little guys before. Cool little detail!

Thanks as always, Chewtobacca!
2.5 is really great Harmy ~ looks amazing
just one thing I noticed with the 35mm scan was some redness on the left of Admiral Piett talking with Vader.

was that too hard to remove or did you intentionally leave that in for effect?
I think that’s a light leak. It’s been there in every version I’ve ever seen. I’ve always assumed it was native to the negative.
yep, reviewing all the versions now, the red light does appear to be a flashing light source off camera while filming.
there you go…
You notice things like that a bit less when it’s all blurry anyway.
I think it may have been intentional.
I watched the workprint of ROTJ Despecialized 2.0, and it’s a massive improvement over 1.0. Great work, once again!
That’s so last week.
Edit: Oops, wrong post.
That’s so last week.
I live in a different time zone…
Looks incredible, Harmy. Thanks to all involved in this labour of love!
Hi! Where can I find the DVD-5 version of Return of the Jedi 2.5? I looked all over Myspleen and tehparadox and couldn’t find it.
Thanks.
Harmy,
Just have to chime in here to say thank you for your hard work on this new version of Jedi. I’m really looking forward to showing the original trilogy to my daughter and god-daughter; and between Despecialized and Team -1’s releases (and the work of all people who worked on the sources!), I’m flush with options. Star Wars fans are in a far better position, compared to just a few short years ago 😄
