^Amazing Vid!

I forgot to add something to the interweave thing. In the remake outline, I used some old screenwriting techniques. Breaking exposition into two blocks and seperating them in time, and back and forth between exposition and something else. GL built 'AmGraf' around variations of those methods.

Anyway, initially I thought to have Leia duck out at the start and interweave that with 3PO's tale. Ben could be placed at the end, or vice-versa. I don't know what would be best for a fan-edit. Both?

I wouldn't have a clue how to proceed at this point, or at all, without the stunning work done here and on the 005 blog. I made a point of avoiding "Technical stuff."

Next on the list, the fleet briefing. I don't know exactly what has been proposed before. I can be precise about my concerns and what might be done about them. I like the hokey, a little over the top expressions and dialogue in the OT. Then there is behavior that is light-years beyond the way any human being would react. If my best friend, and then the woman I love more than anything in the galaxy, told me they were coming along on a suicide mission, the very last words to describe my expression would be "Goofy grin ;)." It seems like the WWII British and American propoganda features. It also kills the tension they built with "Suicide Mission."

If, after Chewie volunteers, cut away the frame before Han starts to smile (draw out if nec.) cut back in with Leia's "General..." cut out the frame before Han grins (draw out last frames if nec.) then Luke. No grinning.

It's been mentioned before that Lando-Han is too hokey. Maybe cut out "Your the...." so it looks like Lando's reacting to "I ain't..."? (I hope I'm not repeating exactly)

I thought about things for ANH and ESB. Most could only be achieved in a remake. Anyway, there's ANH:R, and ESB:R is on the way- What's the rush? :)

new video edit of rotj

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQggJXUOUNg

i never liked how endor looked.  the scenery and colors felt so dull and uniteresting

with the help of color correction and background replacement, i think i may have given endor some life now

i also changed chewie bow laser to green to look tie it in to other source materials that depict the wookies weapons with green laser.

if you look hard enough you may notice something different try and guess what it is (it is a test to see if it can be done in other scenes)

so please some comments and criticisms on the work

Just watching that clip I would say to cut down as many of the 3P0 scenes, especially before they get captured by the Ewoks (as they just come across as unnecessarily annoying, much less would give them away pretty easily).

I would probably cut out the scene with the trooper shooting and (ugh) "attempting" to capture Leia.  Jesus Christ, he has the first and SECOND shot and she can't even see him, and then he walks up behind her and says Freeze?!?  If he wanted to kill her to begin with, why do that?  You (or any editor) could just as easily edit that scene to end with Leia following Wicket back to his camp.

there's TWO troopers the one that is told to get his "ride" was the sniper, and the other was the "arrester"

In ROTJ when Shuttle Tyderium starts it's descent to Endor, the music and editing don't match when it changes to Vader looking out the window.  That's always kinda bugged me and I hope one of you editors fix it.  Sorry if it's already been addressed.

Yeah, but it's still stupid as f**k.  If the Empire found anyone on their super-secret Death Star construction site, much less an honest-to-god rebel, they'd kill em and THEN make a report... not to mention: if you're trying to capture someone AND you have a stun ray (like in ANH), why would you shoot to kill TWICE (and miss) and THEN say "freeze"?

You know, now that I mention that, why would ANY of the Empire people say "freeze" if they have an already established stun feature on all of their laser guns?  They would just pop around a corner, fire those blue beams at everyone and take their time tying them up and packing them off to prison.

On top of that, aren't there at least 3 TIMES Empire people say freeze, even after the rebels have proven that they are there to kill?

I say: cut out the stupid stuff (which will probably be about a good 20 minutes of material) which will open JEDI up for 20 extra minutes of space battle stuff.

It looks like I missed my show. I wanted to catch an old smokey noir pic based upon 'THE CATCHER IN THE RYE'. I was going to see if it was an influence upon the OT.

I better finish up ROTJ and ESB instead.

Snootles! They took that simple form, went to work, and when we got our ALF back she was great animation. The only part I don't care for is when the muppet jumps forward and tries to swallow the camera. Maybe stay on Jabba or the singers to cover that bit?

In the ROTJ star battle, I was interested in creating a sense of great peril for our main characters. I imagined interior shots of the Bothan spy ship and dialogue like: ENGINEER "HYPERDRIVE IS BEYOND REPAIR!" COMMS "INFORMATION IS ENCODED!" CAPTAIN "TRANSMIT NOW!" Then the ship is destroyed. Just something to make us care about their struggle-But not too much. That would require building a bridge and maybe part of an engineering section to LFL '82 production values and hiring a crew of actors. I see fan-editors are doing some wild things- So I thought I'd just throw that out there :)

In the ESB star battle, 'Great damage and then jump to hyperspace with a SD jumping after it' was the original "Fate Unknown." I think it could work either way.

The ESB rad edits: Cobble some Fisher audio and pipe it over Luke's scout comm to show her having concern for Luke at the outset. Something like "It will be dark soon Luke, hurry back."       Take a cut from 'The closing of the doors', change the lighting and background somewhat to show Leia gazing at Luke's speeder launch.           Take a cut from first sight of the CC where Leia is looking up from a console, change some elements and show Leia reacting to Luke's name being called over the comms during the walker battle.            If usable 'Cloud City Lounge' shots of Han and Leia expressing concern for Luke become available....     Heck, at this point, I'd settle for "Hey Luke, your shoe's untied." (I was floating my more "tame" trial balloons back in the ESB:R thread. Sorry 'bout that 8-/ )

About my last post in the ESB:R thread,  I had the sense that I was communicating with a few serious fan-edit types. People who would immediately and fully comprehend my meaning in "Kersh is truly brilliant." I'd want any casual passing viewers to understand my comprehension. I know that creating such an exquisite masterwork, the greatest monochromatic film ever shot in full color, to make it so deeply moving without giving it a conclusion, to craft it so it can stand alone....

I was trying to make everyone happy in this thread. It seems like people here are divided into camps in ways I can't begin to understand. 'SPLINTER' is about all I know of the EU. I was trying to respond to various posts, in kind, to deal with the concerns of others. I know what it means to have favorite icons and sequences. If I stepped on any toes, it was only because I was moving in great darkness, very early in the morning or when I was rushed, and with no idea where the toes were. Sincerest apologies!

Thank you for all you are doing for the films I loved so much when I was young!

BEST WISHES AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU :)

Maybe the original concept with the laser disc in the center of the equator (instead of right above it) could be used:

Maybe a more dramatic version of the poor ROTJ's briefing room.

Far more interesting lighted and colored while keeping a nice mood and an OT feel.

Hell it could work in the AOTC room too.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Did you do that yourself or is it from one of those game things you young people play?

Have you tried putting the people in there?

Hehe I remember the first time I saw Mimas in an astronomy book I couldn't get over how much the Death Star looked like it. I think the firing disc being on the equator for DSII would be great, not just for variation, but it would also look more like a dedicated weapon to me.

Nope. TFU2's concept art. Superior to the ROTJ's sets :D

No people yet. just trying to get feedback from the mood and colors

It's very nice, but how would you integrate it into the live action shots? I always hated the briefing room scene once the lights come up, it just smacks of Jedi's lack of creativity and style.

Love the mood and lighting of that briefing room pic.

The laser in the centre of the deathstar sounds interesting, bugged me how the original deathstar plans in new hope didnt actually match the actual deathstar.

Also, a really cool but underused ship in ROTJ are the B-WINGS, I would love to see a few more shots of those in action. Infact, for some reason I feel that i saw shots in the films back in the 80s that no longer appear, as if in a dream or something.

Here's an easy edit that could help the believability aspect of the ewoks helping to defeat the stormtroopers in ROTJ.

Check out this dialogue tweak I just made.... http://www.zshare.net/audio/8258809178746cba/

Basically I subtly altered Palpatine's dialogue so that instead of boasting and exclaiming "an ENTIRE legion of my BEST troops awaits them" he instead simply says "a legion of my troops awaits them".

To me this change still gets the same frightening / threatening point across however the viewer no longer expects to see some awesome killer stormtroopers in action. Also, the point is no longer stressed that the troops are "the best" which they clearly aren't.

One of the problems I've always had with RotJ is Endor. It was shot in a national park, and it kinda' shows. There doesn't seem to be anything threatening about it as an environment. Even Luke's old home, Tatooine, has the potential to be more threatening. Although it looks quite creepy at the landing platform with Vader at night, the rest of the time it seems as though the rebels are a hiking team rather than people infiltrating a strange world.

There must be some way to make it seem like the kind of exotic environment we're used to seeing in Star Wars - maybe a fog effect could be used or a shot of a very distant canopy, emphasising unearthly massive trees, which then pans down to show the rebels.

Any other ideas?

Good call, many of the shots are either static or matte paintings filling out the surrounding trees in a shot.

Maybe some extra photoshop mattes could be added to some of the trees/foliage to make it look a bit more exotic.

Add twisted vines wrapped round tree trunks, low dangling vines and maybe big exotic flowers and plants. Possibly pinch some from Felucia and Avatar?

Me being a Brit, thought that the Giant Red-woods were Alien looking because over here we dont have such forrests. But, now with so much Hi-def wildlife programmes on, it does now look a bit "Ordinary". Especially with many short Fan-films being filmed there, kinda cheapens it.

I am reminded of the end shot of Deep Rising when the trees of Skull Island (joke) are being pushed apart by some unseen giant creature.

If strange animal noises were added to sound mix the audience may be lead to believe there are all manner of unseen giant creatures which may pay off if someone did manage to get the AT-AT to stomp through the forest convincingly.

Really good idea.

You wouldn't even have to show anything. But so far we have this forest moon on which only Ewoks live, apparently. It's incredible, the lack of imagination that went into Jedi. There is no whimsical detail anywhere on Endor.
