Here’s my final post on the matter.

I thought it would be, but it got out of hand. This whole argument is making my brain fry.

“Obviously, you don’t watch Family Guy.”
I appreciate the update, especially the funeral pyre scene. Still no feedback on Victory-class star destroyers, though?
There will be no Victory Class Stardestroyers
Well, bummer!
That’s alright, though. I love all your other editing choices.
And yet leia said that she died when she was very young and NOT that she died when she was born ( which is how anyone would have talked if their parent had died in childbirth) . And that is because Leia’s mother WAS still alive during the first few years of her life when Jedi was written. Silly excuses cannot hide the fact that George forgot his own films and screwed up when doing the prequels.
I always thought Leia was talking about her adopted mother here, and that she probably thought she was her “real” mother, not knowing she was adopted. Considering Leia has no idea she has a brother and her dad was freaking Darth Vader, it wouldn’t make much sense at all for her to be actually living with or in contact with her actual mother. Otherwise, how would Darth Vader possibly not know about Leia? Only possible way for that to work is if Vader had like a one night stand with Luke and Leia’s mom and never spoke to her again lol.
Whatever, Leia being Luke’s sister is a silly idea to begin with.
Why would Luke say “…your mother. Your real mother.” if Leia didn’t know she was adopted?
It’s the only reason he reiterates that point!
Sure, the PT throws a few wrenches in that, but that’s problems in the PT, not the OT. I’ve said it often around here lately, but the OT can’t be blamed for inconsistencies created by the PT.

Pretty sure everyone here agrees.

I’m not even thinking about the PT here. Luke says “real mother” because at this point he knows that Leia is his sister, and he also knows that Leia doesn’t know that, so he concludes she must be adopted. I’m just pointing out that if we accept the fact that they’re brother and sister AND Leia’s mom was alive for a few years of her youth, it doesn’t make sense for her to not know she had a brother or for Vader to not know about her. Only way it makes sense is the scenario I mentioned: Vader had a one night stand with Leia’s mother or otherwise ended their “relationship” before he knew she was pregnant. But if that’s the case, why would their mother give up Luke and have him live on Tatooine? Having Leia be Luke’s brother doesn’t make sense and that’s without even considering the PT.
But that is enough now

yes, lets move on!
So recently watched ROTJ with a group a friends and was thinking about some of Adywan’s ideas/changes to some scenes.
The line “I’ve known line…” does stick out as being so … awkward. I remember one of Ady’s post talking about removing that and I think it would be a wise change.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
( plus i may still be adding the “you’re Mother once thought as you do” line instead of the original "Obi-Wan).
This is a really cool idea, and honestly I’d argue there’s a reason to do it even if we ignore the prequels completely. I’d be very happy if you did this, if even just as a bonus “alternate scene” on the DVD or something.
What’s the deal with changing the line to “Mother”?
Obi-Wan never hints that there’s any good in Vader, in the prequels or as a ghost. Padme does, up to the end.

Even taking the PT out of the equation, Obi-wan clearly didn’t see any good left in Vader.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
I really like the idea of having Vader say, “Your mother once thought as you do.” This change makes sense, and not coming from a PT standpoint either. It’ll help his character be more dynamic; Vader would originally bring up Obi-Wan too often (“Obi-Wan has taught you well”, “Obi-Wan this”, “Obi-Wan that”), so for the audience to see that he actually remembers someone else in his past life makes him even more compelling. Hopefully it can be done 😃

That, if we pretend the PT never happened, it’d be one of the very few moments where we learn about Luke’s mother (and also natural, I think, that Vader would mention her to him now that Luke has “accepted the truth”).

^^ This.
They told me they’d fixed it!

I agree in a sense but I think it may have a diminishing quality on his character at the time as seeing him for the evil machine and right hand of the Emperor he is at the time. To hear him reference Luke’s mother and his ex lover (wife?) starts to humanise and make him relatable again (to an extent) to early on where originally this doesn’t happen until he decides to save Luke from the Emperor and the events that follow after.
Though in saying that, you do hear him call Luke “son” in the same scene as the “thought as you do” line so using “mother” could work but it also just seems an odd reference when discussing matters of the force, it does make more sense still to reference Obiwan who was his mentor in the ways of the force and would be able to detect the same feelings but obviously gave up on them long ago.
To reference Luke’s mother in regards to this actually creates questions about her that can’t be answered in the OT but can be in the PT which you then involuntary start to think about anyway as the only source of extra info on her apart from Leia’s comments about her beauty and being sad.
By the way, just had a quick look through the ROTJ script and I could only find 3 times where Vader references Obi-wan 😉 Maybe you’re memory is including times in the other movies where he mentioned Obi-wan.

“Obi-Wan once thought as you do.”
“Obi-Wan has taught you well.”
“Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete.”

I’d like to put a vote in favor of changing the line to “Your mother once thought as you do.” Literally the scene before we hear more about Vader’s previous wife, and then this line helps expand her character. Of course I consider all of these things as if the prequel trilogy never existed 😉 Which makes it even more of a reason to have that line in there.
When I first heard about changing the line, I was against it. But then I thought, if adywan wants Vader to compliment Luke on his ass, so be it!

When Luke is hiding from Vader while he’s speaking to him saying “If you will not turn to the dark side…”, he’s holding another unlit lightsaber in his left hand (supposedly meant to be Luke’s that he threw at Vader to show that he won’t fight him).
