What bothers me is I know I have at one time seen the ENTIRE clip with the original actor.
I just cannot remember at all where that was.
Heck it was BEFORE the Special Editions were even being made.
TV special or something, I'll keep trying to figure out where...

Well I received my copy last week, and have been EXTREMELY IMPRESSED. This is a totally professional job Garret, and you should be very proud of your accomplishment. Of course, most of it is based off the work of others, but it's all in the presentation. The Deleted Magic backdrops during the interviews were pretty neat; gave the thing a very "official" vibe. And honestly, if you know you won't get sued, you should seriously consider sending Uncle George a copy.

The resequencing of the film is what I found the most interesting; particularly the Battle of Yavin. It's amazing how great an impact editing has on a movie (and gives fan edits all the more importance). And Bigg's line "They're coming in much faster this time" finally makes sense. Seeing the scene at Ben's in its original order was very interesting as well; it flows a lot better!

My only real critique would be some endless repetition of shots. Such as, showing pretty much the same exact thing multiple times with different audio and such. This really stuck out to me in the Falcon's cockpit; it's like that scene would just never end! But I understand your desire to incorporate ALL possible footage, so it's not totally out of place.

Some of the Empire and Jedi stuff I had NEVER seen before, and look forward to the future installments of "Deleted Magic." Keep up the good work, Garret. You're doing a great service to Star Wars fans everywhere.

Aw ... thanks so much ... It means a lot to me that people are digging the disc, and getting something out of it. The repetition was just so that I could show most or all of the footage that was available ... when it WAS available for a scene, there was often a lot of it. =) I did the best I could with it. Most of the Empire and Jedi stuff on this disc is from the trailers and the VH1 special When Star Wars Ruled the World ... if I ever have a chance, I could certainly do a lot more with those two films.

I'd never send it to Uncle George, since I know I could quite easily get sued ... but maybe he'll see it himself. He has eyes in many places. I'd love to send it to Garrick Hagon, though, if I had his info. And other people like that.

Probably in "false memory syndrome: The magic and the mystery." =)

That said, everything for Jabba has shown up SOMEWHERE (including the MM cd-rom) except for:

End of the scene ... everything after "Fifteen, Jabba, don't push it."

Han: "I just need a little more time."

Audio for Jabba: "Han my boy, I'm only doing this because you're the best and I need you. So for an extra 20% ...."

I should have complaint about the slow mail earlier.

Haha, that reminds me that whenever I'm in a restaurant and we're getting slow service, I always go to the pisser, come back and voila! the food's there. Works like a charm.

All right, guys ...

It's ALL online now.

All of Deleted Magic.

http://www.starwarz.com/deletedmagic/

There's a few things that only appear on the DVD ... the Lapti Nek material and the special features and the extra notes ...

But for you cheapskates who've been enjoying the online version, it's all online now and you can check it out.

If you haven't seen the whole thing yet, now you have no excuse. =)

The FAQ has also been updated, with new info ... as well it should. Even the drinking game rules are included ...

The clip you speak of appears twice within the Sci-Fi Channel special "The Force Returns" which aired in Feb of 1997. But I'm not sure if it's the same source you're looking for as it seems to be slightly shorter than what you describe. There's no audio (the narrator is speaking) but Han would be saying, "Do you think I had a choice? But I got..." and it cuts away there.

Perfect! I'm sure that's the one, then ... shorter or no. Much gratitude to you ...

Have you or anyone here got a good copy?

As before, full-quality clips can be mailed to tygerbug at yahoo dot com ...

And ANY clips you might find where Han appears on the RIGHT side of frame.

Sorry, but all I have of that special is a poor quality avi. Otherwise I'd be glad to help.

Well, you have a new clip travelling to your mail right now with a FEW seconds (1 or 2) of footage AFTER the other one I sent you.

I'm excited to realize that even more Jabba footage than I thought existed is floating around out there.

The question is WHY THE HELL Lucas doesn't release a "deleted scenes" DVD. Why do we have to seek for every small frame he has left in every documentary. I guess he is waiting for the 30th aniversary (and the next digital format) to release an improved edition (I mean... 1 DVD-9 for the extras of the WHOLE trilogy? Come on!).

I'd never send it to Uncle George, since I know I could quite easily get sued ...

Could Lucas sue you if you haven't make profit of your DVD? I mean you only asked some bucks for the shipping, the DVD-R's and your short films DVD ( ), not for the Deleted Magic. It's just a question, I'm not trying to convince you to send him a copy (I wouldn't do it myself. I don't like troubles).

Lucas always makes us wait. It's the way he is. When I was a kid he wouldn't even release the films on VHS, forcing bootleggers to do ... well, the same thing they do today.

I don't mind looking for new frames of Jabba ... the lure of the hunt, so to speak.

I've always referred to Deleted Magic as a not for profit research project, that anyone could watch for free on the web. With the DVD it became a bit trickier, but I suppose those who care about these things will be interested to note that I didn't make a real profit from the DVD either ... for a long time I was losing money on each sale, because of the equipment I've bought. It's leveled out now to where I'm not losing money any more. I would never mind making money, so to speak, but if non profit aid to the community is what I'm doing, I'm very glad to be of service. =) The DVD will also be torrented now, and get around via free means.

I made this DVD because Lucas hadn't ... and out of a long-held desire to really research this stuff and see what I could dig up with a little creative editing. Back when I was just a tiny thing and Star Wars wasn't out on VHS, I'd just watch the making-ofs over and over ... and got obsessed. So, here it all comes out I guess ...

Maybe if someone at Lucasfilm saw it, it would force their hand a little quicker to do their own version of same. =)

I'd like to think they might actually read and understand that this really is a not for profit fan website kind of thing ... but obviously they could still sue the crap out of me if they wanted to.

I'd LIKE to think they'd like it, and appreciate it, but I can't hope for that.

So, better safe than sorry.

Well, forget safe ... I've put my neck in a noose here by putting my name on it and taking credit for it, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm proud of this little disc here.

Officially, I'm keeping quiet. That's the safest and least sorry I can muster.

Let the fates fall where they may.

Looks like we've found it .... Jed's just sent me another clip from The Magic and the Mystery, and it's definitely the clip I was looking for. I can tell because it fades out to the special edition version of the shot ... so sad. =)

The special also has the first few shots of the scene in widescreen ... which I could really use as well. I needed those, I did.

I'd still like to see the Sci-fi clip ... almost certainly the same, but who knows.

Jabba hunters, continue the search! Look for any clips that have Han on the right ... maybe we'll find something!

What would be cool now is a high quality copy of The Magic And The Mistery.

Hello, all. This is a damn good thing ocpmovie's done here, despite my holding up the train trying to get that Behind The Magic and Making Magic stuff captured! As it turns out, I finally got them the way I was trying to, but within a day of my getting a sample to ocpmovie, GuruKenn had provided an even BETTER copy of the scenes (good job!). Oh well. At least I managed to come through with a super-quality copy of the VH1 special, which I believe is what you see on the finished product.

The Cut Scenes group will be previewing the Deleted Magic DVD at Celebration 3, beverages likely in hand. This should prove to be a highlight of the con, and it's not even Lucasfilm official!

Anyway, I've got to give ocpmovie yet another hand. This is the coolest thing I've seen since The Star Wars Storybook.

And it's true: I have been known to sit through repeated viewings of "Light the Sky on Fire", stone cold sober. I even have a single and sheet music for the song...

I'm sure the thought has flitted through more than one mind after seeing Deleted Magic, but I'll say it.

Oh dear.

Let's not, shall we?

Much of what we have that was cut out is really rather silly .... and putting it in an unusual context like Deleted Magic is better than letting it screw up the film proper.

Of course I would kill hundreds for a release of the actual Lost Cut.

Which quest was that - to kill hundreds, or get the lost cut?

"The president wants to know if everything's ok, or should we nuke Russia?"
"Tell him 'yes' on 1 and 'no' on 2."
"Uh, was that 'yes' on 'nuke Russia' or, uh, number 2?"

(Only cool people will get that reference. )

I received my Deleted Magic copy last week.
The part of the disc that I had the time to watch was fantastic! Congratulations ocpmovie, and thank you...
Unfortunatelly, the disc ocpmovie sent me was not entirely readable as I just found out.
Actually, I tried in 3 different DVD drives, and they were all unable to read the following files:

VTS_18_1.vob and
all the files in the root directory except "AOTC droid ship cut scene.avi" and "anatomy of a Dewback.mov".

I know that this is too much to ask, but could someone PLEASE host these files just for a little time so I could download them?
I'd hate to ask ocp to resend me the whole DVD because of this (and since I am located in Greece, that would mean that I'd have to wait for too long for the DVD to arrive, should ocp resend it to me)
The total size of these files is considerable (50MB), but if someone would be kind enough to host them, I'd download them within 20'.

Edit: Removed some files I was able to read.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.
