Are the full-screen LDs of Terminator, Terminator 2, and Terminator 2 Special Edition open-matte?

I believe I recall the former being open matte, not sure about the Special Edition though.

I am checking the Temrinator 2 Special Edition Laser Disc.
Too bad the disc I got at eBay is quite dented, and plays like an worn out VHS Copy… I’ll capure it, to take a closer look. I would say, it is a bit open patted, but I may be wrong.

Thank you very much for the replies.

Which T2 releases have the best audio? Thanks!

This is what I’d like to have:
The Terminator Remastered BD and mono audio from the Special Edition DVD
T2 Special Edition: Open-matte LD and ???

T2 Theatrical Version on of the best Audio Option is, afaik, the oop japanese DVD in Full Bitrate DTS.

Regarding T1 Audio, there is already a thread discussing it:
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-Terminator-1984-Original-Theatrical-Mono-Preservation/id/15807

The T1 remastered BD should be easily avaible at amazon.com

Nice Terminator 1 and theatrical 2 Project with great Audio options are discussed and presented here:
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Terminator-1-and-2-Projects/id/17330

Discussions regarding T2 optically aree here also I think it cross over with the Audio thematic:

regarding T2 Audio Versions there is also a thread:

According to dvdcompare.net, there is a Region-5 T2 (Theatrical) DVD in 4X3 released by ‘Twister Digital Video’, anyone have it? Is it open-matte?

Thanks MrBrown for the links.

You can find it on rutracker dot org, yes it’s open mate.

Forbidden Planet is another one. It’s 1st/early full screen release (Beta, VHS, LD) apparently has bolder colors, which faded away on the particular stock used for filming. Later releases colorfulness, even though in the original widescreen, just kept getting weaker and weaker.

Check out this other thread Forbidden Planet 16mm Scope print for sale on eBay

and some original lobby cards at Four Color Comics website:

Morbius’s home never popped with color like that since then!

yes it’s open mate.

Wish there was a fan-edit primarily using the FS Theatrical DVD and splicing the WS Special Edition scenes, the changing aspect ratios and framing would be ok.

If it means anything, theres a copy of the remastered BD with the synced mono track from the LD on MySpleen. The LD mono track is MILES better than the flat sounding mono track MGM included on the Special Edition DVD. Hope this helps.

This does help and planning to read some of those threads. However, what about T2 Special Edition. Anyone know which T2 Special Edition soundtrack is best?

I do not remember any Special Edition related Audio discussions… So maybe you have to stick with the BD Audio for the SE.

All I know is that the LD SE track is fantastic and that they likely would have made it for mixing to disc in matrix ProLogic. Later on it was likely converted to 5.1 then EQd and changed for DVD.

Which LD SE Release?
Also: What would be needed to Capture that Audio properly? (Dempster the LDs of course…)

AFAIK I have German Language Full Screen Open Matted VHS Tapes of

  • From Dusk toll Dawn
  • Desperado

Maybe I should try to grab them onto MKV. They would be PAL, but maybe, if the quality is okay, someone could respeed them to NTSC speed, and sync English audio to them. AFAIK both movies never where released Full Screen on DVD or LaserDisc.

From Dusk till Dawn Full Screen DVD was released in German, but it is missing almost 17 minutes of film . DVDRip is available in usenet

The VHS was the normal international Version, so I would rather want the VHS rip, instead of the censored FSK16 DVD.

Does anyone has access to the first polish DVD release of “From Dusk till dAwn” from ITI Home Video? The one with only one english Audio Track, and polish subtitling?
I read that this one is 1.33:1 Full Frame, and I am pondering, if this may be a open matte Full Screen release.
