Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread — Page 31

Well, at it seems people will soon be able to buy an action figure of an “Imperial Ground Crew”, which I personally find really funny.

I mean this guy is basically just the Star Wars equivalent of this guy;

And what kid wouldn’t want an action figure of the guy who waves two lights at landing TIE-fighters?

I dunno, did this guy ever get an action figure?

Based on the squadrons of guys in Stormtrooper gear I’ve seen marching around at cons, movie screenings, ect., I’m sure they can see fairly clearly. Luke couldn’t see because the uniform didn’t fit him. "aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"
Also, for the umpteenth time, they can aim n’ shoot just fine in the OT. “They let us go! It’s the only explanation for the ease of our escape.” If they killed the kids on the Death Star, they wouldn’t be able to track 'em back to Yavin.

Actually… Yes he did…

Though, sadly, he didn’t come with the wands.

I do know the ESB Vader stunt helmet has little windows cut into the face mask for that reason.

Yeah, it had see through cheeks and they usually kept the metal screens out of the mouth holes. Supposedly that’s also why the chin vent was made so much bigger in ESB - every time you see Vader cock his head back while talking to someone, it’s because Prowse is tilting the mask up so he can see the other actor through the chin vent.

Dang it.

Now the kids can’t have a complete set of Imperial and Rebel ground crew.

Well, at least we have three George Lucas action figures to choose from.
(I especially like the blue one, I mean seriously, what the hell is that supposed to be even?)

Right.
I still find it weird that that was his only SW-related cameo role though, but why not.

The Lucas as X-Wing pilot figure is also an official character apparently; http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jorg_Sacul

True.
That would have been very silly.

I just can’t image that if I was in Lucas’ shoes that my first though when entertaining the idea of a cameo would be “I’d like to play some blue politician in a funny hat”.
The X-Wing pilot makes more sense to me. Or you know, something short, but funny, like Peter Jackson’s various LOTR cameos.
In the end though I’m just amused by the fact that they also gave the character an action figure. After all I think the “Imperial Ground Crew” figure is kinda amusing, George Lucas as “Papanoida” the blue politician seen for two seconds in the background of ROTS, is just silly.

At least it came packaged with Lucas’ entire family;

There’s this movie called Star Wars, ever heard of it? Well in it, there were these Imperial Gunners that looked like this:

And yes, they have an action figure:

There’s a huge difference between an Imperial “gunner” and an Imperial “ground control”.

The gunner did at least have action related play-value, the new RO figure, although very similar-looking, is equipped with light-sticks for guiding landing air-craft.

I’m not saying it’s terrible, but I think it’s a tad silly.
(At least it makes more sense than blue-Lucas.)

More silly then Ice Cream Guy getting his own figure? I think not.

And it looks like the figure comes with some sort of backpack weapon.

No it’s definitely not sillier than that. Ice cream guy having an action figure is what I would call “absurd”.
Imperial Ground Crew is still somewhat silly though.

In a world that includes this:

I wouldn’t bat an eye at a ground control figure.

Hasbro has never lost money making more bad guys. If I was a kid, I’d buy one. You can’t ever not have enough bad guys filling out your tabletop battle scenes.

The only pegwarmer I’ve noticed from TFA is one of the background aliens from Maz’s bar.

The reason we’re getting this figure is, this is the imperial costume (minus the helmet) that Jyn wears at the end of the original Rogue One trailer. It even comes with those batons she likes to fight with.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

To be honest, that’s one of the misguided attempts to make him look more alien than rabbit. This is how you do it right. 😉

Alright, I get it, Hasbro likes to make figures of silly background characters, and the Ground Control guy is far from the worst.
I’m not protesting it’s existence, I just think it’s a bit silly, and find it amusing that there’s a Stormtrooper action figure with marshalling wands as accessories.

(Also, the weird backpack thing kind of proves that Hasbro had to give him something other than the wands to make him a proper “action” figure.)
