Either that or he needed more training in Soresu.

According to this fellow here they are. Nice try though.

Oh, well that’s news to me actually. Thanks for the link. I never liked the lightsaber forms because they all just reeked of the Prequels and EU shoehorning to me. I’m not surprised to learn that they originated in the PT novelizations.

Not sure why it’s a “nice try,” I’m just running off the assumption that everything old is still non-canon. A lot of people haven’t realized that quite yet.

So you assumed that every Jedi and Sith were taught exactly the same way in terms of lightsaber dueling? You do know that in real life there different sword fighting techniques so lightsaber forms are pretty much the same shit. I hate the PT as much as the next guy but Christ man…

No no, I don’t mind the concept of lightsaber forms at all. I mean, at its core it calls back to martial arts and samurai techniques and all that, which is just fine.

I’m just not a fan of how it was presented in the PT and old EU because they did that thing where they shoehorned and retconned stuff to make it fit.

I don’t mind different Jedi having different swordplay styles. I do mind the rigid Form I, Form II, etc. brouhaha, though, and the Jedi-centric portrayal of it all.

I would like to see some examples of this retconning if you don’t mind.

If it makes you feel better a decent percentage of Force sensitives make minor tweaks to their specialized form and even use multiple forms but the beings who do this are adept-master Force Wielders.

It just feels weird when they do things like make Vader’s taunting of Luke during the Cloud City duel into a lightsaber form thing. My issue with it is the old-EU/PT thing where there has to be some name for everything or an explanation for everything.

And if that doesn’t work for ya, just remember that this isn’t real and it can work however you want it to! Fun!

JEDIT: That could be construed as a jab, but it’s not.

Don’t worry I didn’t take it as a jab even before I read your JEDIT 😄

And to your point filtering undesirable stuff out your mind is a good idea so long as it doesn’t effect the grand scheme of things. I have effectively retconned several aspects of the PT and things are fine in terms of how the overall narrative of the Star Wars Saga flows.

Heh.

But seriously, if you did take that attitude, you would have no life to live. So it’s moot.
